look: 3.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Appearance 3.25: Attractive coppery gold color. Completely translucent. Smallish 1/4" head.

Smell 3.50: Good bouquet. Malty, grainy, with a nice warming sensation.

Taste 4.0: Front is slightly sweet with a very brief hint of hops. Middle is thick and malty. Semi-sweet with a slightly dry and spicy twang. Finish also has that pleasant spiciness and showcases a tasty, hoppy, alkaline hint along with very brief flashes of malt and caramel. Aftertaste is short, dry and refreshing.

Mouthfeel 3.75: A bit too bubbly. Less bubbles would have made it feel more like an ale, but this level makes it sort of strange, an in-between kind of beer sensation.

Overall 3.75: Probably the best rye beer I have tasted. It is not perfect by any means, but is good at what it attempts to do: create a refreshing, "seasonal" (the box said that, not me) brew. Sessionable and probably great with food, there is no hint of its 6.3% ABV. A sleeper, a surprise and worth purchasing if you see it.

Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: A nice deep amber orange color. A bright white head recedes to a film with a thicker ring around the edges. Good webby lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Rye grains all over, with some slight sourness.

Taste: Excellent. Rye malts bring a dryness at first, with some caramel sweetness soon after. Faint tart notes fill out the back.

Mouthfeel: Slightly dry, but refreshing as well.

Overall: I really like this beer. Clean with lots of character.

Pumpkin-orange body with a thick, lasting two-finger thick, fluffy head sitting on top; clinging rings of lacing on the pint glass. Malty sweet scents intertwine with rye spiciness; sorghum in there, too. Bitter hops merge with rye flavors for a decent taste bud treat. Medium-bodied, smooth, dry finish.

A fair little rye beer that goes down nicely. Nothing extraordinary, yet has enough character to warrant repeat visits...

12oz bottle served in a Sam Adams perfect pint

A - 1.5 finger tan head. Full and fluffy. The head sinks pretty quick with a clear, dark brown body with reddish highlights. Looks good!

S - Citrus hops, faint metal notes, spicy caramel background.

T - Spicy hops off the top with notes of citrus and red fruit. Sweet malt background with a peppery hop bite. There's a weird off flavor that I can't put my finger on. The rye is present with light spice and blend well with the fruit. Finishes with fruity rye bread, almost toasty with a dry finish.

M - Medium body, ample carbonation, crisp peppery finish.

Nice use of rye, not overpowering and could work well as a session beer, if it werent for that off-putting flavor. The mild fruity yeast added a nice English accent. This didn't go down that "smooth".
