22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown black with a medium creamy tan head that goes to a thin film that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet grainy baking chocolate with some cherry.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malt with lots of tart cherries and light roast. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, decent sweet cherry chocolate beer. (385 characters)

Pours black with a lively effervescent head that suggests rather high carbonation. Tasting verifies the fear of over-carbonation. No other obvious flaws. Decent bitter/sweet balance; all main ingrediants evident in both the aroma and the flavor. Lingering cherry-cocoa dark bread aftertaste.

O: Perhaps not as great as one might hope for given {cherries + cocoa + stout), but still recommended. ABV not hidden and detracts from the aroma, but the esters mix nicely with the other flavor components. (504 characters)

Really big light brown head ever so slowly falls into a really dark brown to black colored beer.

Rich dark roasted malt with an added cherry wine coming through. I could not distinguish any chocolate in the aroma as the label says, if there is the cherry must be to overwhelming for me to find it.

The cherry in the taste is less than in the aroma which I was happy about, this allowed the dryish dark chocolate a chance to make itself known. Having said that, the chocolate coming through in the taste isn't that impressive, it is quite downplayed with this beer.

A dryish aftertaste with just a bit of the cherry taste and also a bit of the grain malts lingering on with this medium to maybe full bodied stout.

Enjoyable in the fact that the cherry and/or chocolate tastes are not overbearing like what Shock Top does with their flavored offerings, but rather this lets you also appreciate the rich creamy grain malts which are the backbone for decent stouts. (965 characters)

Appearance - Pours near black with cola brown edging with a tan finger width head that fizzes away like soda. Leaves little evidence of there ever being a head.

Smell - Cocoa notes and faint cherry sweetness. Scant trace of coffee.

Taste - Cocoa and milk chocolate notes hit first, then a light cherry undertone kicks in. Faint coffee bitterness starts to emerge as the beer warms, but does little to balance the overwhelming sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with light, fizzy carbonation. Not very suited for the style.

Overall - Looks and tastes like what a chocolate cherry soda might be like. Needs a deeper coffee or baker's chocolate bitterness to add balance to the brew, and a thicker, silkier body. Even as a dessert beer it seems to lack any redeeming quality. Needless to say, will not seek this out again. (826 characters)

22oz bomber served cold in pint glass. Beer pours dark brown in color with a pleasant, brown head. Aroma is subtle and hard to describe: a little bit hoppy, a little bit roasty. I don't really get chocolate or cherry in there, but I could believe there's some cocao in there.

Flavor is thankfully subtler than my expectations "oh no, chocolate covered cherry candy beer". The cherries mainly come through as a tart, fruity flavor. This balances the natural sweetness of the chocolate. This beer is tasty, but in no way is it candy. It's actually more like a Belgian style lambic blended with an American or British style stout.

Interesting to try, but I probably wouldn't seek it out a second time. (700 characters)

Decent stout. Not very harsh. I am not getting any if the off tastes that many have complained about. (101 characters)

Picked this up at the COOP tonight for about $6... poured into my HotD goblet... the brew is surprisingly black... fleeting dark tan head leaves few splotches of lacing and no cap.

Nose is dry dark malts and a fudgy essence... cherry shows but seems a bit artificial. Smells more like fermented out candy than I appreciate.

Dry stout qualities are there, but chocolate comes off as chocolate extract and the cherries mirror the nose. Odd.. Not sure if more malty sweetness would improve things, but I suspect more sweetness would have helped carry the cocoa and fruit much more.. Right now, this is a letdown.

Body is light/medium punctuated by a bigger burpy carbonation... I won't buy it again.

Appearance: Large, dense, persistent tan head rides atop an obsidian body. Thick, glass-coating lace adorns the glass walls.

Aroma: Sweet, vinous alcohol dominates the aroma. Strong cherry notes and bitter cocoa are also present. Pleasant dark raisin aromas and roasted malt are also present.

Taste: The taste opens with strong roasted malt and prominent herbal hops. As the taste progresses, mild sour cherry notes vie with bitter cocoa, cold coffee and vinous alcohol. Towards the close, the roasted malt notes intensify, and the herbal hops ascend to a long, lingering, moderate bitterness, accompanied by a dry finish.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and quite full.

Drinkability/notes: Complex and appealing, well-suited to a cold winter's evening.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twenty-two ounce brown glass bomber bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice. (895 characters)
