Been holding on to this one for a long time and finally found a good opportunity to crack it open.
Age has done this beer beautifully. Nice smooth and soft feel to it with a touch of vanilla and excellent barrel influence showing. A really superb drinker and we couldn't have asked for more when trying it. If ya got 'em, drink 'em.

Not entirely that different from the normal release Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale
Aged for 2x as long apparently... bottle 114/2640 signed by Chris McCarron
Appearance- nice mahogany almost bronze colour
Smell- smells of bourbon and booze
taste- a bit thin.... alcohol is relatively weak but the bourbon taste is great!
Mouthfeel- as stated above... a bit thin but fairly good mouthfeel
drinkabilit-: well, I finished the 750 mL bottle myself... so I'd say very drinkable

A - Hazy gold, nice this off white head. Reduces to clumps on top. Sticky, webbed lacing
S - Booze! Bourbon, vanilla, malt hiding under there somewhere.
T - Booze! Tastes like a watered down whiskey. Very dry finish, not much sweetness in general. Hey, I like alcohol, but I like a little beer in my beer, too.
M - Booze! Kidding. Medium to light. Kinda watery. Could have been much thicker.
D - Booze! Not kidding. Would tire easily. I like the style, the Imperial Brown Goose is one of my favorites. This one is just a little too 1 dimensional for me.

Pours with a small head no lacing. Clear golden in color.
Aroma of Whiskey. Slight oaky vanilla notes, this could be the bourbon.
A light sweet ale that is dominated by it's bourbon background. Alcohol is apparent but not a distraction.
Mouthfeel is medium , could be a little thicker to balance barrel aging.
Overall a very nice and different take on an oaked ale. I should probably mention I love whiskey.

From the Brewery: "Each 750ml ceramic bottle is filled with a special batch of Bourbon Barrel Ale, aged twice as long in premium bourbon barrels."
A spin-off from the standard Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, but with the extra barrel aging, it's easy to expect more bourbon character, alcohol, and wood-flavored character than even the original. Truthly, the beer doesn't display much additional character than the standard Bourbon Barrel Ale. This bottle gave me a lot of vanilla, caramel, and the distinct bourbon character that is expected. This beer is obviously a bit thinner than usual and picks up more of a burst of boozy alcohol warmth. More cherry flavor, wood, and abrasion makes its way into the beer, but the extra barrel aging seems to have robbed the beer of the complex malitness and softer textures for which I praise the standard BB Ale. Always a good beer, but this variety did not give me much more variation that isn't normally found in the original beer.
Although the beer ain't cheap (about $30 per 750ml.) it's primary purpose is to support a cause that is close to the hearts of Central Kentuckians: "A percentage of sales from this limited release will benefit the Don McBeth Memorial Fund for Retired Jockeys and Old Friends, a Thoroughbred Rescue/ Retirement Farm in Georgetown, KY that preserves the honor and dignity of at-risk horses, including former champions. "
So, if you are only interested in a new variety of the Bourbon Barrel Ale, you'll not find it here. But if you want to support the good cause, I recommend the purchase.
