look: 3.5 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: 1 inch head, straw yellow in color, clear, high carbonation

Smell: light straw--very faint

Taste: straw, sugar, pilsner malt, and wheat

Mouthfeel: high carbonation, light bodied, sweet with light bitterness

Overall: When I have a kolsch I look for cleanliness, lightness, and a good smell. The beer meets two of the three, but the smell is so faint it takes away from the rest of the experience. This is odd because this brewery usually excels in providing excellent smelling beers. Not a bad beer, but I have had way better in the style.

16 ounce can poured into a pint glass.

A - Poured out a cloudy yellow/orange with a strong lasting head and decent lacing.

S - Very fruity with some grains in the background.

T - Tart, fruity and some wine-like character.

M - Tangy but still a bit on the thin side.

O - My first Kolsch experience. If the BA description is accurate, this is a decent enough representation of the style. It just seems overall to be a bit "thin". Still, I wouldn't turn one of these down ice cold and will certainly drink the remaining 3 from the 4 pack I purchased.

pours light gold color with a foamy white head from the ample carbonation. Taste is a bit sweet with citrus and a tad bit of maltiness. the finish is crisp and clean and holds a touch of bitterness. Aroma is light and citrusy

look: 3.25 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance 3.25: Poured out a hazy, very light yellow. Opaque. Slight head with no lacing whatsoever.

Smell 3.25: Very subdued bouquet. It's difficult to smell anything beyond the honey/grain scent and even that is very low-level. Still, there is no harsh or distracting smell in the bouquet of this beer and that is a major plus.

Taste 3.5: Front is slightly tart with relatively no distinction other than this. Middle is light (regarding the weight in the mouth) and there are slight hints of barley sweetness and a very light noble hoppiness. Finish is slightly sweet with a very subdued grassiness and subtle adjunct taste that is probably from the kolsch yeast.

Mouthfeel 3.5: Light, fizzy and well within the style.

Overall 3.5: Bit of a mixed bag, but certainly not bad. This kolsch (where is my umlaut hot key?) is light, refreshing and enjoyable. In other words, a good representative of the style. Still, there is a certain taste emptiness inherent in this particular beer that is a style deviant. This beer would be excellent with food or for sessioning and I would recommend it for those activities. I would not, however, pay "handcrafted ale" prices (say, $8+ per six) for this beer just to try it.

Not sure if they just changed the name from Kentucky Light, but looks a bit different, new name, new label, hopefully better than the ratings show for the Light. Tall boy can is nice. The Bourbon ale wasn't bad, but a bit too overpowering, but a nice attempt. Hopefully this is nice, a very misunderstood style.

Pours a light fizzy bubbly head that fades pretty quickly, crystal clear watery looking Berlinnerweiss pale water color.

Nose starts almost nonexistent, but some deep nosing and patience reveals light aromas of wheat like toasted grain, little straw like, a touch of a fruity aroma, and hints of grassy mild hops.

Taste is also pretty light, even for a Kolsch. Light toasty grain and wheat like flavors, little straw and wet hay, with more fruity flavors and hint of fruity grassy hops. There is also a bit of a sulfury flavor, light tin flavor too, and not nearly as clean and crisp as I expected, little sticky finish with more light bitter and sulfury flavors lingering.

Mouth is light bod, lighter carb too.

Overall not very good, I don't think thye really tried very hard with this, way too light even for a Kolsch, off flavors, not very enjoyable.
