Little Kings Cream Ale from Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. is what alot of the old timers here in Stark County, Ohio used to chill with back in the day. Figured I'd give this a try in my early 20's... The very cool, small 7 oz bottles are certainly the first brew I've ever seen in a bottle so small. Poured from two bottles into a glass, this brew has little head that disappears rather quickly. However, the lacing is impressive, thus amping up the extra quarter point in this division. Medium, clear golden body.

The smell has a minute amount more malt than most ales I've experienced. Besides that, fairly neutral here.

Same here with the taste, I got an initial smack of malt flavor, and it went away in midswallow . Absolutely no lingering elements whatsoever, and a delightfully clean finish for an ale that has such a malt-like presence to it. I like this aspect of the brew, for reasons that escape even myself.

I give the mouthfeel a 4 dude to the fact that this is so crisp and clean going down. Very impressive for a brew over 5% ABV, in my opinion anyways.

Overall a respectable 3.75 . I didn't find one thing offensive about this brew and again the clean finish was very liked by yours truly

Schoengling Little kings 8pk bottles $6.99(OH)

Poured two 7 oz green bottles into a 17 oz stemless white wine glass. No freshness date. No bottling codes.

Pours a pale gold almost yellow color, a one and a half finger head that don't last long. Minimal to no lacing to speak of.

The aroma is sweet malts, with a strong corn adjunct smell.

Taste follows the nose. Starts out malty and sweet. Finishes with a corny taste. It has a nice crispness to it though.

Mouth feel is O.K. Not great but not too bad either. Crisp and sweet. The after taste is lacking, the adjunct is strongly prevalent.

Overall. It looks like your typical beer. It smells better than it tastes. It was O.K but not my style of brew.

This beer is one of the palest I've ever seen, though it is bright in its clarity and shine. The head is pure white, small and foamy. It holds up just a thin layer on the top that leaves very light and extremely thin spotting on the glass.
There's more to the nose than I would have expected. Some dry malts and leaf try for balance, though it's an underlying graininess that prevails. There's a touch of corn to it, but not too much, a bit of sulfur, and some gentle sweetness.
Carrying over, it's still grainy on the tongue but not quite as corny. There's something mildly musty, though it goes with the leaf and isn't too vegetal. Sweetness of pale fruits flesh with maybe just a hint of citrus-type fruits come out up front all the way to the finish.
It's pale, a bit thin but not excessively watery. There's a slight malty heft that helps things along, and it keeps a fair cleanness.
It seems like this beer would be about average for the style. The greats are significantly better and the terrible ones significantly worse.

Little Kings Cream Ale brewed by Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. This brew is something the old timers talk about a lot- so I had to try it out. This brew has an ABV of 5.5 and it pours out a dark amber color. This brew is darker than your American style lager. Little Kings has a small white head that goes away fast. Now keep in mind this beer is in a 7 oz bottle. The smell is strong and bold with flavor. The taste is bold with flavor. I like how this brew is bold with flavor but it goes down crisp and refreshing. Mouth feel is good this brew smooth. Over all I giving this brew a 4 out 5. I'm really impressed with this brew. I will get this again.

Didn't know they still made this stuff.

Tiny 7 oz green glass bottle.

Clear yellow colored beer with a small white colored head.

Smells of toasted grain and mild noble hops. Slight caramel and corn scents.

Starts out mildly sweet with some hop leaf. More bitter than expected and fuller. Quite well hopped and malty not watery. No skunk from the green glass.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall far better than expected. A quite decent little beer, I will buy this again now that I have tasted it.
