I had this on draft 7/31/23 @ the Hopleaf.

Opaque orange appearance.

Small eggshell-colored head; a thick curtain of lacing remained.

Orange peel, clove, soft wheat & faint banana notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Orange peel & faint wheat flavors up front; dry clove & faint lemon notes on the finish.

Dry, and there's a lot going on here, but it's interesting & enjoyable.

Bought from The Beer Temple and should have bought more before they are gone.
As traditional a saison as is still brewed: semi-sweet malt in the attack and hops/zest control the mid-palate thru semi-dry finish. Nicely balanced for the table. And beautiful in a tulip, particularly the lasting foam.

Drank this with my simple, rustic meal (a California veggie burger!), and I could imagine myself a peasant eating gruel after a hard day's work and feeling that this saison made it all worth the effort. (On second thought, I'm glad I'm retired.)

Thiriez also is a classic farmhouse brewer. Grow their own hops. Brew for the table. Good for us, they found another importer (Lime.) And for all that, they get good Overall Hugs.

This is where I need to be careful...this is not my preferred beer style so I don't "love it" .... But how does it compare to other Farmhouse Ales I have had .... Answer: Pretty good ... I mean, it's from France!

Poured from an undated, 11.2 oz bottle into the test glass.
A - Dark straw color, very nice clarity, supercharged carbonation. A tower frothy cap is quite proud of itself.
S - A warm bread dough up front, earthy grain and hops add a nice touch. There is a strong yeast thread.
T - Bready, like baguette, with some honey spread. a bit of orange rime and white pepper.
M - Hefty feel for a 4.5% offering. The start is dry the finish is dry. This is my favorite aspect of the offering
O - A very good farmhouse ale, rustic is appropriate here. Wonderful texture, and flavors

Whoa now. Sweet hell... Straight out of the gates, I can tell that this is a Godard beer and not a Truffaut one. I mean, this one is a lil more complex and convoluted than your straight up brew, ya feel me? Oh my... this one speaks to me like a love letter sent to me from my best girl while I was doing time on Devil’s Island. Damn thing is super woody like that one time they made Raul walk the plank...

I am almost at a loss.

Peace!

Weird one...
Not a looker with the dirty gold mostly opaque body. Head makes up for that a bit to bring it above average.

A saison sits underneath a sheen of earthy to woody bitterness. I am sort of thinking foeder might be involved. Taste brings a brightness I didn’t sense in the nose. The wooden notes are there, though, furthering the fact that is believe this has done time in wooden vessels.

There’s a little bit of a dull feel, but it starts to promote another impression in my mind: cask ale. This is more bitter and less fruity/peppery/farmhouse than most saisons. I could see this as a cask British mild, though it’s a bit more hoppy and bitter - which adds to personal enjoyment at least.

Aroma is bready malts, fruit/lemon and mild sweetness. The flavor is fruit/lemon, malts bready/grainy malts and a slight alcoholic burn/mildly sweet/hoppy finish.

Massive foamy white head leaves an artsy looking lacing as it chills out a bit. Body itself is like a hazy yellow orange. Brilliant noble hop aroma gives way to a layer of white grape and a sweet, biscuity-ness. Taste is pretty much the inverse of the aroma as the parade of tastes begins with a sweet breadiness before clove. Not as much grapes but leaning towards melon, maybe pear before a hop bitter wave of what must be the product of the dry hopping. Finishes on the crisp, dry side.
