On tap at the brewpub.

A: a very attractive ans creamy tan head leaves plenty of sticky lacing. Clear but nearly opaque dark brown.

Aroma: mix of medium- and dark-malts with a touch of coffee.

Flavor: Faint hop presence. Mix of medium- and dark-malts with dark chocolate and a touch of coffee.

Feel: light-medium body with medium soft carbonation.

O: well-crafted. Sits between a traditional and a robust porter.

Tap@Six Rivers. Once again with all their beers, fairly light for style. Toffee and burnt toast, short finish, but easy to drink. Porters, especially one that is 6% ABV should have more body than this, again an averagly drinkable, failry tasty, yet quite boring after a few sips, not bad though.

A: the body poured murky brown with reds and burnt sienna tones. The head is a soft mocha hue and formed quickly to give me just a few glances of its presence. I am left with a ring of foam and a shotgun blast spattering of lace

S: somewhat faint in the nose. I pull out whiffs of grassy hops, roasted malts and grains. Maybe stale coffee and some wet cardboard

T: pale chocolate and crystal malts with a light mix of burnt toffee and coffee. It has a delicate buttery toast flavor. The follow up leaves a pale woody tanginess on the tongue. This is not unusual for a porter and I don't mind it. However, with the flavors present in this beer the "tang" is sometimes a little more noticeable than I care for
I feel that this porter has potential but just misses the mark for me

M: body is smooth and carbonation is almost nonexistent. Body is a heavy medium and goes down efficiently. As it warms it passes down the hatch easier

D: boy, I say kick up some of the flavors a bit (especially roasted notes) and edge the chalkiness out a bit and you'll have a good porter

Picked up a single at Princeton's Liquors. The brown-black porter is your basic example of the style—chocolatey, a little roast, and kind of thick. The flavor isn't terribly complex and there's a tart edge in the finish to indicate mild spoilage (though its not entirely unpleasant). Think of a dumbed-down Sierra Nevada Porter. I'll pass in the future.

Pours a finger of tan head on a dark brown colored body.
The aroma is roasted malt, cocoa and a little coffee. Mellow but nice.
The taste has a roasted malt beginning, mild bitter middle and a slightly sour finish. It's disjointed. I'm not sure the sour flavor is intended but it doesn't really fit well.
The texture is crisp with soft edges and moderate carbonation.
The sour flavor took this one off the rails for me.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: It initially had a nice looking brown/mocha colored head, but it disappeared to nothing very quickly. It looks like a coke with less carbonation with a sludge brown color.

S: There isn't much going on here. Mostly just some faint malt aroma.

T: It tastes mostly of roasted malts. There are also some hints of chocolate and toffee.

M: It is a lot more watery than I was expecting. I was anticipating a heavier feel to it, but it is rather light. There is virtually no carbonation.

D: Definitely not the best porter I've tried. Kind of disappointing. I don't think I'll be visiting this beer again.

From notes:

Black light foarm
Smell: coffee, butter, bread, a good whiff of bran.
Taste cappuccino, coffee, hops
Drink: pretty good brew, best with a meal, maybe even breakfast or a good steak

This is a pretty good porter, but could be maybe kicked up a notch, although it had what I look for in a porter, and a few things I dont normally find if they were heightened, or maybe made into an imperial version, it would be damn good

Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is fairly subdued with dark roasted malt, char, and slight cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that is drinkable, but nothing very memorable for the style.

Picked up a 6-pack at the Market of Choice for a BBQ.

Appearance: Pours dark brown color, decent head, but dissipates quickly.

Smell: Roasted accents with a chocolaty foreground.

Taste: Toffee, chocolate and the roasted flavors all make an appearance but are fairly light. Sour, Acidic taste is an unwelcome presence.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, viscosity is low.

Drinkability: High; this is a porter that is very smooth, but not your typical porter as it lacks the subtle robustness typical of this type of beer.

Try one out if you are feeling adventurous.

Thanks to Tyler for grabbing this on a recent trip to PDX. This beer was a bit darker than most porters and the head was thin and minimal retention and lacing.

The aroma was very average for the style, roast dominating. This beer tasted horrible. A weird combination of metallic, skunk, some weird thing that I can't put my finger on and rancid Coca-Cola. I gave a taste to my friend Geezer Jim and he called the beer "Fuzzy tasting".

The body was too thin for the style and drinkability was extremely difficult. Avoid this beer.

Almost totally black, med tan head steadily shrinks to foamy ring, a few weak wisps of lace.

Aroma is rich chocolate, prunes, brown bread, bread crust, earth.

Taste is nice, winy prunes, wet wood, earth, chocolate (unsweetened cocoa). It has great well-rounded character with nice complexity and balance – a little sour, a little sweet, light bitterness. It has nice toastiness and hint of charcoal in the finish and is a wonderful mix of elements, strong but restrained. Feel is good. It is outstanding.
