it's been a really long time since i've had an american or canadian brewed american macro lager. years ago i probably tried most of the usuals you see everywhere. but i've never had this one before, don't remember seeing it either, and i'm a little surprised by what appears to be a good-looking brew. pours out a typical clear beer yellow, but the head is big and full, good retention.
the smell is exactly what i remember a macro lager smelling like. faint malt, no trace of hops, generic adjunct beer smell. but, despite its blandness, the smell is not unpleasant. i'm definately grading this with style in mind, and lumping into that category all the japanese macros i've tried. with that in mind, this is pretty good.
same goes for the taste. nothing special or particularly interesting, but its remarkably inoffensive. balanced, clean, good when cold, very easy drinking. basically it's exactly what macro lager drinkers want, i think. bottom line: i'll stick with craft beer, micros, german lagers etc... but if you insist on drinking american macro lager, you could do a lot worse than molson candian. i'll take this over bmc, heineken, asahi, other shit. not too shabby.
