A genuine Belgian-style wheat ale, White holds a depth of flavour. It's brewed with wheat and oats, and is unfiltered to present a natural cloudy appearance. Mild hints of ground coriander with dried orange peel mingle for a light spiciness that ends with a refreshing, smooth finish.

I am not a huge fan of Rickard's, nor do I know anyone who is. However, their beer is everywhere in Canada, and I've generally heard good things about the White - or at least, better things than I've heard about their Red or Dark. Regardless, I likes me some witbier and all beers, mass-produced or not deserve a fair shake.

Pours a hazy yellowish-brown colour, topped with one finger of creamy white head that is mostly gone before a minute's time. A modest cap and some lacing on the sides are its only remnants. It sure looks like a wit, and the smell doesn't deviate from this theme - notes of wheat and spice (presumably coriander) are the most noticeable but there's a bit of citrusy orange zest. Not particularly yeasty.

It falls off a little in the taste department. Many of the notes you'd expect in a wit are there - wheat, coriander, orange citrus, and maybe even some peach if I stretch my imagination a little - but it all feels a bit watery. Not especially sweet, but definitely not bitter either. Wheat and yeast linger for a bit in the finish. Mouthfeel is a little heavier/thicker than your average fizzy yellow lager, and the carbonation level is high as I'd expect for the style. Drinkable, but not particularly satisfying.

Final Grade: 2.88, a C. With Rickard's White, Molson was clearly aiming to make something that would seem inoffensive to the average macro drinker - maximizing drinkability and minimizing potentially bothersome flavours while doing only the bare minimum to ensure it could actually be recognized as a 'witbier'. There's nothing inherently wrong with that - money makes the world turn and all - but looking at this objectively, it's a pretty lame wit, showing about the same level of quality as the other two flagship Rickard's ales.

[Updated Sept. 28 2013]
I tried another can of this - right after a bottle of Amsterdam's Oranje Weisse for comparison purposes - though to be fair, I've had this at least four or five times since the first review. My judgement is similar: this is a half-assed wit that might be a realistic option at a restaurant/pub with limited selection, but I can't think of any OCB or imported wits that don't grossly outperform Molson's facsimile.

Such a hard to obtain product! Available in Taster Packs with other Rickards products I really do not drink :(

I have enjoyed this beer for many years now. I find it tasty and creamy. It pours beautifully well & when it was available in draft form it came to the table like a present & I was eager to open it!

Fingers crossed that it returns to this area soon in regular packs!

Pours cloudy gold colour with thin head. Wheat dominate the aroma some citrus overtones as well. Flavour again comes with an orange/wheat combination. Mildly carbonated, not much of a spice kick nor much coriander which are associated with this style. Not exactly memorable but hey, not a bad summer beer to me.

Had this at a Canadian holiday party. It was poured from a 341 ml bottle, which the bartender kept. The taste profile was somewhat lemony with wheat. It reminded me quite a lot of Blue Moon, though the bartender didn't add any fruit (he said it was standard, but unavailable at the party). Unimpressed, I left a couple of ounces in my glass.

Not a bad summer beer!
Poured into a glass from the 341mL bottle.
Look: Light amber, slightly hazy. Little to no head, slight fizz-off.
Smell: Faint, slightly fruity. Nothing offensive.
Taste: Initially quite floral and sweet, becoming peachy with time. Slightly heavy on the carbonation, but being very light in flavour, I suppose it's necessary to keep things interesting. Again, nothing offensive as long as you like the fizz. Little to no hops, little to no malt. Not boozy.
Feel: Definitely fizzy, which isn't a bad thing. Without it this beer would quickly become dull. Goes down smooth as silk. I figure I should disclaim though that I'm reviewing this beer shortly after drinking a can of very flat stout, so I may have some bias as to fizz.
Overall: Rickard's White definitely isn't a bad summer beer. I wouldn't protest throwing back a few of these to bring a close to a good day at the lake. Probably won't go looking for it until then, though. November temperatures in Canada's upper-mid latitudes call for a good hot whiskey or something dark and moody.

Five minutes later, I feel like I've had a couple slice of cantaloupe. Huh.

One of my favorite beer. If not the best one

You can drink it two way. Without the lees or with the lees. It completely change the taste.
Fun to try. Just before finishing poring your beer, stir gently the bottle and poor the rest of it into your glass. The taste is distinctive.

Add an orange slice on the rim make it even more tasteful.

I like it cold at refrigerated temperature, but I love it too, to the room temperature, the aroma's and the taste is well more pronounced. You can really taste the orange flavor out of it, a room temperature.

Love that beer. It part of the beers I buy often.

I also love the taste left in mouth after worth.

I can't believe I never rated this. I have had it a number of times when I am in Canada - it is Blue Moon. It is well labeled as a White beer, but it is Blue Moon. They call it Rickards.....which I can only imagine they decided in Canada was a slightly less worse name than Dickard's. Anyway, it is Blue Moon (which in a pinch, is fine). This would be like trying to make an American product to be avoided....say Mariah Carey.....and disguising it as something Canadian that is also awful....say Celine Dion. So you'd go to a concert and be horrified to see Mariah Carey crucifying music, and suddenly underneath find out it is something worse, Celine Dion. This is my analogy of Rickards White.......which by the way, is Blue Moon.

Brought back from canada. 473mL poured into pint glass.

Semi transparent light golden straw color. Large head, lot of carbonation bubbles.

Smell is very cirtrusy, very sweet, floral.

Taste is very creamy. wheat notes, with a fruitiness to it, citrus. The fruit taste gets funky after many sips, not in a good day.

Feels clean, goes down like water. Fruit leaves funky aftertaste.

Not bad, nothing great. Good summer beer.

Pour a nice orange, cloudy body with a pearly white head that dissipates fairly quickly. The scent is fairly weak, but what comes through is a boozy wheat aroma. The taste is fairly nondescript, with mainly a slightly citrus flavour coming through along with a stale wheat flavour. The finish is quite smooth but also lacking in any character. An overall meh beer, but a great one when out at the bar.
