Pours a golden straw yellow with one finger of head that quickly goes away. Plenty of bubbles that essentially give me the burps. Smells of cereal and grass. Tastes like cereal, sweet malts, wet cardboard and grassy hops, with a hint of citrus. Mouthfeel is crisp and overcarbonated ,but not that bad. Kind of refreshing. If it came in a taster pack, I'll drink it, but I won't buy it on its own.

Snagged this bottle from a Rickards mixed pack. German pilsener is a bit of an interesting style ... Just speculating here, but because the style has almost become synonymous with "American or European macro-lager", you don't see as many craft examples as compared to the Czech pilsener. Not sure why I am going off on this tangent because this is another macro-brewed example, but hey. Craft brewers must be less interested in this style for some reason. Food for thought. Rickards Blonde pours a yellow amber color with around three inches of white foam. Aroma is cereal grains all the way, corn flakes and unbaked fresh dough, with a little green grape fruitiness. Palate follows the nose almost to a tee, soda crackers, cornmeal and pale malt flavors out front, like mellow grape nuts cereal, almost no detectable hop flavors other than bitterness and some green leaf or cucumber peel notes in the finish. Some residual sweetness but quite crisp and dry, with a watery fizzy body. I will give this one points for less sweetness and fizz than many adjunct lagers and for cleaving close to style guidelines. I'd like more hop flavor and probably more robust malt flavors as well, and there are some chlorine and metal off notes that damage what would otherwise be a solid finish.

12 oz beer was poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Grassy, pilsner malt, and cereal grains. Pretty average aroma.

Taste: Pilsner malts, grassy hops, cereal grains, and mild hop bitterness. Pretty average pilsner.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, refreshing, chewy, mild hop bitterness. Nothing exciting.

Overall: Pretty standard pilsner. Nothing fantastic.

473 ml can from LCBO in Rickard's taster's pack into a pint glass. Served cold.

Appearance - Clear golden color spilled into the pint glass, leaving an impressive 2.5 fingers of white bubbly yet creamy head. Lots if effervescence. The head had some signifcant staying power lingering for over twenty minutes and leaving spidery lac around the glass. Really impressed so far.

Smell - Reality check. Grassy with floral undertones, and slightly metallic having come from a can. Not a whole lot here.

Taste - Faint sweetness of front that is not cloying, with floral grassy flavors thrown in for good measure. Little hop bite late, but none of the taste sensations are overly strong. To me I picked up a tiny peach undercurrent that elevated this above some of the other German pilseners.

Mouthfeel - Watery, highly carbonated, nothing that lasts. Medium to thin mouthfeel but is thirst quenching.

Overall - Seems almost out of place being compared to German pilseners as it is much sweeter than others that I've tried in that variety, Overall though not a bad beer and definitely wouldn't turn one down if offered.
