Purchased from Great Spirits, Huntsville, AL.

A: Very black coloration, thin khaki-colored head that sticks around and leaves quite a bit of lacing. Nice presentation.

S: Sort of like a mild porter. Vaguely sweet aroma, vaguely grapes and raisins, with a mocha coffee aroma mixed in. Decent, but nothing fancy.

T: Heavily fruit flavor, strangely like cantaloupe. Very sweet, with notes of cherries and chocolate. Strangely, I don't care for this very much -- I find it cloying and unpleasant after awhile.

M: Velvety smooth and luxurious.

D: I'll never drink more than one of these. This six-pack cost me $12.99 -- I'll pass on it in the future. There are much better beers for much less money.

Appearance- Body is very dark with only a hint of ruby highlights when held up to the light. HEad is a nice tan, foamy affair with good retention and a decent lacing.

Aroma -- Very clean aroma consisting of malt sweetness, some roaste malrs and hops. Very well balance.

Taste- Sweet, yet very drinkable. MAlt sweetness, plus some other sweetnss in there I can't identify. Some hints of a roasty, nutty after-taste..

Mouthfeel- Not heavy, but the body is very noticable. Good level of carbonation to.

Drinkability- Pretty good. Nice aroma, taste and body.

A: Pours a dark brown, somewhat thin texture, almost no head.

S: Faint sweet malt aroma.

T/M: Sweet roasted malt taste, maybe a hint of cocoa in there, backed with some hops. Generally a thin and smooth mouthfeel, less carbonation than I would've expected.

D: Nice relaxing brew, but not worth purchasing a second time.

Pours black with a small head. Nice lacing on the surface. Smell is sweet malt with a hint of chocolate. Taste is a pleasant toasty malt. A bit of roasted bitterness. Light caramel and chocolate notes. Balanced and tasty. Medium bodied and very easily drinkable. Overall quite a good beer and I think the first Brazilian beer I've had.

This beer pours up a good deep black with a thin light brown head. Minimal lacing is observed. Smell is very subtle. Not unpleasant, but hardly a memorable aroma. Mouthfeel is pretty nice. Not thin at all, but not thick either. Taste is fairly mild with a smooth initial taste giving way to a coffee like aftertaste. A decent enough beer, but I would like it have a little more assertiveness.

Served in a standard pint glass.

A - Ptch black brew with a nice two tip head. Retention and lacing are solid. Overall presentation is enticing, and the bottle looks neat as well.

S - Hmmm, sort of like a school locker room, mold and who knows what else, hope it tastes better than it smells.

T - Thankfully it tastes pretty good, sweet malt body with a generous hop backing, refreshing crispness and a hint of toast in the body.

M - Sharply carbonated light body, clean feel, moderate finish with no unpleasant aftertastes.

D - A black waterfall of yummy, getting past the odd aroma I could easily drink a few of these, a good brew overall and worth trying.

This beer poured out ok, a nice black with brown highlights and a foamy tan head. The aroma however was a bit on the vegetable/corn side of things... slightly roasty, but ultimately displeasing. I wondered if this would translate into the taste...

And unfortunately it did. There was a real cooked vegetable oil and corn flavor to the brew that I just couldn't shake. There were hints of roasted nuts trying to peak through, but they just couldn't. The finish had a distinct cola syrup flavor and consistency. Overall this beer is interesting since it's the first South American one I've tried, but I don't know if I'd try it again.

12oz bottle -> pint
no date but there is a screened code on the upper label

Pours a smooth black with some crimson highlights. A nice pillowed head settles to a tight thick blanket. Lacing is minimal and sporadic gobs.

Nose: Grains, roasted malts with a little smoke

Sweet malt flavor with some chocolate, mild dark fruit presense, and oh yeah pretty sweet. Sweet for the style but taste like a schwarzbier to me, especially the slightly roasted bitter finish.

Smooth mouthfeel, almost like a thin stout.

I only have one bottle and i have to keep slapping my hand away to stop from ripping through it. Easily sessionable. I'll pick of few more of these up for sure.

A - Pours dark brown and opaque. In the light some dark, dark red starts to pop up. Ended up with about a half inch head with average retention. Lacing was good.

S - Roasted notes and coffee are the first sensations from this one. The last aroma was honey. This one has a very clean, light smell.

T - Smoke and roasted malt seem to dominate the flavor. Once they subside there is some caramel (bordering on molasses) sweetness. The tail end has some mild hop bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with good carbonation. Finish is dry and bitter. Aftertaste is mild and lingers around for a while.

D - Drinkability is good. This is a smooth beer with low abv. It has all the makings of a beverage that I could drink in large quantities. Worth a try.

Absolutely stunning surprise. Part of my "...of the month" selection that fellow BA (and brother) DK sent me. Wow. Gorgeous deep charcoal brown in the glass with a soft, billowy tan (almost brown) head. A hint of rich malt in the nose, but not like a stout. Rather, when the glass is raised and tasted, there is a wonderful smoothness about the beer that is like drinking black silk. Not sweet, but flavorful; not complex, but highly drinkable. And with a reasonable ABV, it was like a "perfect storm" of drinkability for me. Fanstastic. And to think I passed on this offering from Brazil so many times in the store. Rich malt, with just a tiny bit of bitterness in the aftertaste to keep the tastebuds wanting more. Fortunately, I have two more bottles. Then I'll have to head to the store for more. Those Brazilians know how to brew great beer. I had no idea.

Poured into a pint glass this has a deep dark brown color with a 2 finger milk chocolate head that left airy lacing on the glass. The aroma is extremely sweet with caramel, toffee, and some molasses. The taste is not what I expected from a "black" beer. It is way too sweet and is quite thin bodied. The caramel and almost cane sugar taste overwhelms this brew. Finishes mildly bitter with a strange after taste. Glad this was a sample as I don't think I could drink 6 of them (even at different sittings).

A- Poured 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. Black in color (about the color of coffee). Light brown head slowly rises and falls leaving behind moderate lacing on the glass.

S - Sweet caramel and a hint of chocolate. Nothing in the smell stands out too much.

T - Dark roasted malts and caramel sweetness up front. Perhaps a touch of chocolate or coffee. This subsides to a dryness in the finish.

M - Thin bodied. Medium level of carbonation. Pretty light overall.

O - A middle of the road beer. Would not necessarily seek out again, but it was drinkable. No one atribute stands out in this offering.
