Presentation: Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Pilsener Glass

Appearance: Pours black with Zinfandel red when help up to the light; thin khaki head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma: Brunt sugars and metal with only hints of hops.

Taste: Sweet caramelized malt with notes of dark chocolate providing the bitterness.

Texture: Light body with decent carbonation.

Presentation: Label and artwork are simple and give the feel of a dark jungle expedition. Kinda cool.

Appearance: Poured from a 12oz bottle in to a pint. Pours a jet black with a 1 finger tan head that dissipates quickly into a thin foam ring. Head retention was only about :34. Not much lacing at all.

Smell/Aroma: Smells of roasted grain and malt. A faint nut-like essence is evident along with a faint sweetness.

Flavor/Taste: Tastes of slightly roasted malts with a molasses-like flavor that is very strong. Also a definite dark fruit presence lingers throughout. An earthy/grassy flavor also lingers. Slight hints of chocolate malt on the back end.

MouthFeel: Light-bodied and on the watery side despite having a fair amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: A nice flavor profile along with the light feel make this one a surprisingly drinkable offering.

Overall/Comments: I wasn't really sure what to expect from this beer but was pleasantly surprised. This was more complex than anticipated and a very good overall beer.

This beer pours up a good deep black with a thin light brown head. Minimal lacing is observed. Smell is very subtle. Not unpleasant, but hardly a memorable aroma. Mouthfeel is pretty nice. Not thin at all, but not thick either. Taste is fairly mild with a smooth initial taste giving way to a coffee like aftertaste. A decent enough beer, but I would like it have a little more assertiveness.

Review from 9/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours black with a slim light tan head. Toasty malt aroma. Tastes of light toasty malt and dark fruit. Light lager-like body. Interesting sweet and malt middle with a dry, somewhat sour finish with a hint of adjunct additives. It does have an unusual flavor in the taste sequence, but is fairly thin and light flavored throughout. Pleasant, but could use a bit more assertiveness.

350ml can served in a pokal glass.

A: Pours a dark brown mocha color forming a big and creamy beige head. Thin bubbled. Good retention and tons of lingering lacings left in the glass

S: Sweet grains, roasted grains, caramel, dark chocolate. A bit metallic. Brown bread. Yeasts are clearly low fermentation style

T: Pretty much like the nose. Sweet upfront. Roasted grains. Brown bread. Dark chocolate. Oreo. In overall, a dry watery taste with a mild bitter end. Yeasts have a strong Lager profile

M: Light watery body. Medium carbonation. Mild bitter aftertaste

O: Nice beer. Very honest for a large production brew. Quite tasty if compared with the standard Brazilian adjunct Lagers

Xingu Black Beer is a dark brown beer that is very close to black in color. It has a nose that is sweet and malty with a touch of molasses and a little bit of plum. A good pour produces a creamy head of foam that looks great at first, but settles down quickly.

Xingu Black Beer offers a sweet taste at first, with flavors that alternate between dark fruits, vanilla, light roasted malt, and caramel. There are some hints of leafy/herbal hops, but the brief prelude into the world of bitterness is quickly switched back to the flavor of sweet, dark malt. The beer has an unusual mouthfeel that is very much like a glass of cola.

Xingu Black Beer is a schwarzbier style brew with a sweet flavor profile and likeable characteristics. It has some interesting features, starting with the appearance. It looks a little intimidating with its dark color, but the first sip proves this beer has more bark than bite. It is also interesting in its mouthfeel, which reminds me of a glass of pepsi.

Xingu Black Beer is a light to medium bodied beer, but it does have some interesting flavor notes that make it a beer worth trying. It is about as smooth and drinkable as a beer could possibly be and it rates as a good choice if you prefer your beer dark and sweet.

Garnet-tinged black and a creamy beige head that fades fast - a good imitation of canned (non-nitro) Guinness. Burnt caramel sweetness on the nose with touches of black Twizzlers and char as it warmsl.
Root beer syrup sweetness up front that gets a bit sickly with some caramel and fig, slight roasty bite, but then spicy noble hops manage to push through.
Licorice finish and tingly linger. Light, smooth, fizzy, a bit thin, acidic edge.

A dumbed down schwarz for hot weather. At the same time, there is a real German lager underneath, and it's got a couple of layers while staying way drinkable. Not the worst I've had.
