Black pour, with 1 finger tan head, which dissipated quickly but leaves nice lacing throughout. Couldn't get much discernible smell, It has a sweet sorta smell to it, but I couldn't tell you what it is. The taste does sorta have a soy sauce characteristic about it, some kind of fruit to it also. There is a molasses taste im getting as well near the end. Don't get any hop flavor from this one. Thin to mouthfeel to this one.

Overall this is a decent brew, just not one I will be craving ever.

Xingu appears just on the edge of black, with a light brown head that fades to a blotchy film that retains well and leaves nice lacing. It has a very faint aroma... almost a whiff of soy sauce and beef jerky. There is a touch of sugar and booze in the nose. It has a medium light body that's pretty smooth and bubbly. It has a pretty soft, light finish. There's some roastiness to this. There's a slight grassy sweetness, with notes of sorghum and molasses. It's pretty sweet and mellow. This is almost like a Caribbean or a Baltic porter.

Pours a deep black that has some viscosity. The dark tan head receded from one-finger to almost nothing.

Aroma is weak and mild. I had a hard time pulling much descriptors.

Taste is unique and mild. Notes of sweet malts but not much hops. Slight esters and dark fruit tones. I'd like to try this one again when my palate matures.

Very easy to drink with a quick finish and nearly no aftertaste. I think this beer could be mistaken for a pale lager in a blind taste test.

Black beer. I always find it weird to think of a style of beer as a color.

A: Looks black, can only tell that it's a very dark brown when held into the light and looked at from an angle. Small thin head that dissipates quickly. Spaced and thin lacing left on the glass.

S: Toffee plays the key role in this beer. There is a slight coffee and fruity esters mixed in. Hops don't really come out in the smell.

T: The flavor very much follows the nose. Strong fruity esters lead the way and become more apparent. Can almost depict dark cherries and plums. The toffee blends in to maintain the sweet taste and balances it away from fruity beer. The coffee taste seems mellow in regards to everything else. Almost like its used to keep the beer from being too sweet.

M: Full bodied beer with light carbonation. Leaves behind quite the oily feel.

D: Smooth, evenly balanced flavor and smell full bodied, but not heavy. What reasons could there be not to drink this?

pours a rich dark brown with eggplant hues building to an inky black in the glass. A rich dark caramel colored one-finger head. fair retention, fading to a thin collar with a bit of lacing.

aroma of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, burnt sugar, and a bit of coffee. a few fruit esters... plums and raisin.

Taste follows aroma with a malt heavy backbone with some fruity notes. toffee, coffee, toast. fruity esters... dark cherries, raisins, plum... sweet. a hint fruit sour, and a touch of woodiness.

mouthfeel is thick, almost sticky. high carbonation. fizzy rather than full. Reminds me of an over-carbonated fountain drink. Not awful, but not very appealing.

Meh. There are other cleaner, crisper, more solid dark lagers out there. Not sure this one really has any unique appeal. Not bad, and definitely drinkable, but not one I'd really want to session, or necessarily seek out again.

I came across this beer in 6-pack form at the local grocery and, being the impulse spender that I am, purchased it simply because it was a black beer with intriguing packaging and a cool name. I've never reviewed a beer before, so please excuse my naivete in doing so here.

Appearance: When poured directly into the glass it produced a small head, no more than an inch, which dissapated after a few minutes and left behind a thin, translucent lace. Examining the beer now that it was visible, it was extremely glassy to the point where I could plainly see myself reflected in the surface. Opaque, dark brown in color, smooth as water would be.

Smell: I'm not the best at putting my senses into words. Chocolate, with perhaps an inkling of fruit lurking below somewhere?

Taste: Delicious, as anticipated! All the attributes of your typical dark beer. Chocolate, caramel, and more tangible fruits.

Mouthfeel: As smooth as it looks, mildly biting as it wanders through the mouth as a result of the carbonation, which isn't overly strong. Strikes a good balance between a creamy foaminess and the aforementioned carbonation.

Drinkability: This goes down very easily. Its texture and taste make this a very enjoyable beverage. I will certainly purchase this again in the future.

Yay, Brazilian beer!

A: Pop goes the cap, leaving me with a very dark brown beer with reddish-dark brown highlights. Thin brown head that recedes to a disk, leaving some lace. Solid

S: Dark and roasty with some chocolate and some buttery aromas. Nothing spectacular

T: Opens up with some malt sweetness, similar to caramelized sugar, a bit much. No bitterness, there's some roasted flavors that counter the sweetness. Finishes light, a little drying but still sweet

M: Light in body, quite enjoyably so. Solid carboanation, decent finish.

D: Decent. The ABV is low enough to make this a session beer but the sweetness does get in the way.

Took awhile, but I guess it's time. Both to try this beer and add a country.
Holds a hint of darker roast, but aroma is more closer to an Am. style bock or dark lager than listed style. Sweet and watery quality.
Looks good with a rather dark head. Black with garnet highlights. Very clear. Head has decent stamina.
Very light body, almost approaching watery, or closer to a light beer and full of carbonation. Interesting sweet flavor that's not bad (kind of a fruit quality, but I can't put a name to it) with a caramel quality, which brings a hop sweetness in time. Little to no roast or traditional dark malt to speak of. Slight tobacco. Mild dryness with minimal hop bitterness. I do like the flavor, but it's just not a schwartzbier.
Drinks lightly and easily. Bubbles lend some filling quality. Interesting flavor

A- Pours a dark-brown/black with a very thin chocolate head that dissapates with no lacing.
S- Smells of faint chocolate and some earthy hops.
T- Has a bit of alcohol taste and some earthy hops. Just a touch of chcocolate
M- Fizzy. And not much substance.
D- Pretty drinkable. Not a terrible beer but not great. Worth a shot.

Appearance is clear and deep black with garnet highlights. A thin off-white head lingers for a moment then disappears. No lacing. Aroma and taste has loads of bready malt, burnt sugar, toffee, and caramel with faint notes of flowery hops in the background. Medium mouthfeel with a semi-sweet finish and medium low carbonation. Could use a few more bubbles to help scrub the palate a little more of those malty flavors which would help the drinkability as well. I liked this beer and thought it was a decent example of a schwarzbier if a little on the heavy side.

Served from a 12 oz bottle into a goblet.

A: pours inky black, opaque, with a 1 finger brown/tan head that laces.

S: some roast, with caramel, malt, and toffee also in the aroma.

T: some roast flavor but again dwells on the malt, with estery fruit hints as well. malt flavors include the toffee-ish flavors, with some coffee and caramel, and a slight bit of chocolate. ends with a crisp bitterness.

M: somewhat chewy, but medium feel; average carbonation.

D: very drinkable and enjoyable; while nothing in the realm of mind-blowing, an all around good beer.

Had one at a steakhouse with my meal. Poured little to no head, aroma was a cross between a lager and a stout (as is the style). Taste however leaned more towards the stout side, rather than having the crispness of a lager. Either way, did not really add or detract anything to my meal (besides initial taste, didn't really leave any sort of aftertaste). While not bad, I would say a little boring, and will probably not drink again in the future.

P- Market Cross Pub in Carlisle.

A- an opaque light black color. More like a steel black color. Very little head but it is a nice dark brown color.

S- mostly wood and metallic smell. No real odor is there. Malts and not hoppy at all.

T- at first taste it is like metal but then the prunes and dates come out very nice. It is a sour and tangy type of flavor.

M- very effervescent and carbonated. This beer will also fill you up quite quickly. Not a very good session beer but a nice beer to enjoy and relax with.

D- Its a beer that is nice to have once and awhile but i wouldnt purchase a sixer of it. It might be nice to have for the holidays.

Smell is typical of a lager, sweet with minimal hoppiness. Pours to a slightly translucent brown with a tan head that recedes leaving nice lacing. Taste is also very lager-like with only a slight hint at the end that this beer is black. Very balanced not overly sweet but not at all bitter. The slight roasted flavor at the end is some root beer and roasted malt. Carbonation is a little high making the brew fizz in the mouth. This is a very light tasty brew, not heavy on flavor but high on drinkability.

Pours a nice inch head, light brown in color with a black body

Smells of lightly roasted malts, somewhat metallic almost coin like. Smells arent very dominate or pleasant for that matter.

First taste is of sweet dried prunes or dates. After taste is a bit sour with some malts.

Very nice smooth creamy mouth feel, a little high carbonation but not too much.

Highly drinkable, has a unique taste, not too heavy remaining true to the style. Will buy again.

Pours a dark brown with some nice scarlet edges, the cap is sandy brown and leaves some adequate amounts of lace. The nose smells off in a rotten vegetable way, also smells like onion. The flavors within are not much better. This taste roasted with some underlying vinegar flavors that are a little bit offensive and just don't flow. A very dry finish doesn't help this strange offering. Looks nice and that's about all I can find worthy about this offering.

I got this in a variety pack from World Market.
This beer poured a nice black color. But there was absolutely no smell at all. It tasted like burnt plastic with a little bit of black licorace taste and a bit of chocolate. Had a watery mouth feel for the type.
Maybe I just got a bad bottle. But this I would not buy again.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours an almost opaque black color with a slight head. Little lacing.

Lager-like smell with hints of sweet dark malt.

Slightly lemony taste like a lager. Does have a finish with some light chocolatey malt.

Goes down smoothly. Light body with some residue on the back of the mouth.

Good schwarzbier

I am actually reviewing this beer in Brazil, very exciting. This is pretty much the only non-Pilsner sytle lager available in Brazil, there is a Bramha Black but I didn't see it anywhere. The beer has a nice black body with a creamy off white head. There isn't much aroma, not even a malt or caramel smell, and no lupulo to speak of. There is a nice caramel sweetness to the taste, but little bitterness to balance it out. The mouthfeel is a little more than light, but not overly heavy. I did enjoy a few of these on the TAM happy hours on my flights this week, better than the pilsners available, but not that outstanding.

Wanted so much more out of this one. Dark, dark brown with a puffy tan head. Weak aroma fo hazelnut, malt, and pipe tobacco. Watery taste of caramel, nuts, and a fake chocolate milkshake. There are much better beers out there, or maybe I just don't care for Schwarzbiers.

I drank this from my mom's fridge, not expecting anything. Although it was sitting there for at least 2 years, the only legitimate beef I had with it was that it wasn't extremely carbonated.

The appearance was very nice, black, as it stated with a small layer of head on the top. When angled, it actually was a very deep amber, which only means this was packed with grains rather than roasted.

I couldn't get a lot of smells off of this one, but I think it's party due to the fact that the glass I was using was horrible. However, it smelt slightly hoppy. I had to give it the benefit of the doubt since it was actually hard to smell.

The taste was actually wonderful. Sweet hops came through as well as a light chocolate flavor. Regardless of how long it actually aged, it was a very solid flavor which I really enjoyed.

The mouth feel was nice; not too thick nor thin. In combination with the taste, this was a highly drinkable beer that I was sad to see disappear from the bottle.

By far one of the best darker beers I've had and something that I want to try again, just not as aged. I think some carbonation was lost due to this and a little more would have made me happier.

T- a sweet, smokey taste. a small dose of hops in the taste. very light for a beer that was as dark. the malt comes throught.
