Poured from 12 oz bottle into a nonic glass.

Pour leaves a one inch head which quickly fades with little to no lacing.

Smells like...almost nothing. Faint hints of coffee-ish dark malt.

Tastes like...very similar to the nose. Super super light. I like schwarzbiers for their light but roasty profile, but this is incredibly light. Hints of coffee, chocolate, and bud light.

Overall mouthfeel was OK. Average carbonation, nothing offensive at all, nothing that impresses either.

I did not really enjoy this beer, just came up short for me.

A: very dark brown body. frothy head is light brown. retention is minimal and lacing is average.

S: the malt is there, but not nearly as aggressive as one would expect from this dark body. clean lager-like aromas mellow out any sharp sweetness or roast.

T: vanilla mixes with sweet unfermented roasty sugars. a little bit of marshmallow. not getting too much distinctive hop flavor, however the grain seems to be balanced nicely. finish is sweet.

M: the body is a bit silky which i found a little surprising for a lager, however i enjoy it. medium bodied.

D: really enjoyable brew. i find this mostly malt-centric, but it is certainly not overpowering.

So... The dude at one of the 'beer' stores in town (if you've been to lubbock you understand the quotation marks around that) suggested I try this, and I figured why the hell not.

It pours a rich dark... somewhere between mahogany and black. It's a pretty colour. Middling head, that fades, leaving minimal lacing as I sip.

The nose is... It's actually kind of hard to pin down exactly what the flavours I'm getting here are. There's certainly a burning maltiness to it, somewhere between sweet and black. Some sort of vegetation underlying it, but I can't quite decide what. Unique (at least through my experience)

The taste follows suit. It tastes... sweet and black. But not like sweet in a sugary sweet way per se, again difficult for me to place exactly. There's certainly some caramel in there, some burnt malt notes, and almost a twist of sour in there. I'm having a hard time pinning this one down. It is certainly unique.

Not quite as smoothe as the appearance might suggest, but certainly drinkable. Thinner than my instincts expected from a beer this colour.
This is a different beer. It's not bad by any means, though I probably wouldn't kick any of my current regulars out to make room for it in the rotation. Certainly worth checking out if you are looking to explore a little bit. The comparisons on here tend to be to a black lager, and I definitely see that. Give it a try.

Xingu has a fairly thin, beige head and a very dark brown appearance, with lighter brown around the edges, some lacing, and a good number of streaming bubbles. The aroma is of dark-roasted malts and grain husks. Taste is of dark-roasted malt, grain husk, hints of chocolate and coffee, and it has a nice cream or cafe-au-lait aspect to it. Mouthfeel is medium, and Xingu finishes refreshing and somewhat dry. Overall, this is an excellent beer, and I highly recommend it.

Pours black and shiny (really--like liquid glass). I poured directly into the middle of the glass and barely got a head at all, with the little, tan foam that did appear gone quickly. Subtle aroma of dried fruits, surprisingly no roasted notes. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel and a taste of burnt molasses.

I'm glad to have tried a Brazilian beer for the first time, though there was nothing about this one to commend another.

A- pours black, letting just a bit of light come through. Small fan head with good lacing.

S- light black malt, tobacco, grass, a bit of forrest floor.

T- light black malt characteristics followed by a light chocolate undertone. Faint trace of hops and lightly sour. Finishes light both just a bit of a malty linger

M- light bodied and quite thin. Your senses tend to make you automatically expect a heavier body because of the dark color, but this one is about as thin as a lager. Carbonation seems a little too low as well, as I would like a bit more crispness.

O- My first beer from Brazil. Interesting to switch it up a bit from the norm. It reminds me of a black lager, and I liked it better than Guinness black lager.

A - Nearly opaque brown in my pint glass, but very evident red tint. Moderate, light brown head fades quickly. I could go for more head retention.

S - Very clean aroma. Most noticeable characteristic is sweet malty notes. Essentially no hop or yeast aromas. A little hop aroma would be nice, in my opinion.

T - Immediate caramel sweetness on the tongue. A hint of chocolate (not burnt) with a lingering bitterness in the back of the mouth. Noble hop bitterness is a little hard to find. Aftertaste seems more sweet than dry.

M - Light in body, crisp with prickly carbonation.

Overall, an acceptable representation of the style. Not stellar, but enjoyable. A good intro to dark beers for someone that's not into stouts yet.
