Pours an attractive deep amber, with a big, frothy head. Minimal lacing, though.

Nose is strong on the nutty hazelnut aromas -- roasty, savory goodness. Very impressive on this front, and I'm optimistic on the followthrough.

Taste is also strong on the roasted nut front. Not sure if this is a real hazelnut infusion or artificial flavorings, but it's faithful and convincing enough. A solid nut ale and worth a try for fans of hazelnuts or nut brown ales.

This is part of the Gnarly Oak gift pack I bought at Walgreens over the holidays, $12.99 for three 22 ounce bombers and a glass. Beer #2 for me is Hazelnut Dark. Served in the Gnarly Oak glass, the beer pours a clear amber color with an inch light tan head. Head retention is good, and there's a little bit of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells mostly like hazelnuts, along with some caramel and bready malt. Taste pretty much follows the aroma, the strongest flavor is hazelnut, and there's also some caramel, bready malt, and some light hops. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit creamy and is well carbonated. I thought this was a solid brew, but then I do like hazelnuts so I might be a bit biased. I'd like to try this one again in the future.

Pours out a nice burnt orange and amber color with a crystal clear body, little carbonation and topped off with a thick, light tan bubbly head. It does leave behind a mild lacing to mark every sip you take. The aroma is way too light for me to detect anything other than a few herbal spices some wheat and mild grassy smells.
It’s smooth and light on the tongue, not quite crisp but pleasant. As it spreads out, the bitterness fades revealing some roasted malts notes that give way to a light hop presence in the aftertaste; well-balanced overall.
This is a light bodied ale that is smooth and relatively good tasting, not a bad try.

Found these 50% off at Walgreens after the holidays, had me curious. At a little over $2, what could go wrong? 22 oz bomber pours a clear copper color with a decent coating of fine-bubbled white head. Nice retention, not much lace.

Nose is stale grains with a Nutella-esque aroma.

Taste is quite borish after the first couple sips. The hazelnut aspect is ok at first, but gets a little astringent after a bit. Basic amber ale, really...I'll be able to finish this bottle off, but wouldnt buy another - even at just $2.

Pours a perfect amber color. Clear. No cloudiness. Head is superb. 1.5 fingers thick. Good retention in the swirl

Smell is caramel and toffee. Hazelnut comes through. Some hops pull through and seem a bit earthy. Great balance

Taste is of caramel and toasty malts. A hazelnut flavor is very apparent. Hops are there to balance. Some earthy hops with a touch of citrus on the finish. The flaw with this beer is that is lacks a bit if residual sweetness that I think should come for the style and this depth of flavor. It really teeters between a brown ale and amber ale

Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Carbonation is a bit too high.

Overall this a good beer. Complex unflavored and a great example of the style. It needs a bit more mouthfeel and residual sweetness and it could be great. Right now it's just good

Second Gnarly Oak product I've had this week, gotta say I'm not overly impressed, but on the other hand, I am not disappointed either as I didn't expect too much out of this brew. Bought a 3 pack gift set from Walgreens on Clearance with a glass for $5.99, so I really can't complain. The beer pours an ember to deep brown color, while the aroma of nutmeg and sweet spices hit the nose immediately. The beer is mildly sweet, but with a chemical sweetness, not a natural sweetness. The beer has a great deal of foam, lace and head and easily froths up when you set your glass or bottle down smoothly. The mouth feel is the best part as the lingering taste does not stay too long and goes down relatively smooth.

I got this as part of a three-pack of 22oz. bottles, that contained this beer, their Winter Bock, their Chocolate Stout, and a nice stout glass, which is what I'm drinking this out of.

A: Pours dark amber with a thick tan head

S: Malty with a hint of hazelnut

T: Malty with hazelnut aftertaste.

M: Somewhat thin, but crisp. No alcohol presence at all. Good carbonation.

O: Surprisingly good. This is a fairly good brown ale brewed with hazelnut. I'm not usually a big fan of hazelnut, but it goes well in this one.

This beer is not bad, simple and a good winter drinker

Appearance - Dark brown/ black with a bubbly brown head that dissipates quickly. If you shine it in the light you can see specks of cocoa powder.

Aroma - Cocoa powder, slight coffee notes, a bit of sweetness, and roasted malts.

Taste - just like it smells, like homemade hot cocoa, rich, creamy, sweet, but with hint of coffee. The alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel - not a full bodied beer, but still very drinkable.

Overall - I would buy it again, considering they have it on sale at Walgreens right now for 2$ for 22oz. but I would not pay 13$, even for the gift set.
