Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Part two of my six-part Berghoff evening tasting, which didn't start off very hearteningly with the Sundown Dark. This one pours a clear light amber topped by a finger of short-lived lightly dirty white foam. The nose comprises light caramel, light black pepper, and a touch of flowers. Things are a tad muted. The taste brings in a touch more hop character, mostly in the form of extra flowers and added greens, but the caramel, which is now drier and more biscuit-y, is still dominant. The body is a hefty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish. Overall, a fairly mediocre pale ale, but, compared to other Minhas brews, at least this one isn't entirely objectionable...just not all that favorable.

Beer poured into a Mug shaped glass

A - Beer poured with a brown colored body; a one finger white colored foam formed on the top of the pour; the head did not hold well and dissipated rather quickly; well carbonated; some lacing formed on the side of the glass

S - Ale crispiness; subtle notes of dark fruit scented malts; peanuts; caramel; light odors

T - Dark fruit malt flavors; lager airiness; light flavors of nut and yeast; lacks a lot of bite though; could be more flavorful; some roasted notes

M - Slight stinginess; sour feel on the sides of the tongue and burning; watery but solid body feel; tastes good for an american pale ale; slightly bitter back-end; slightly creamy feel too

D - Alight for an ale; dark fruit flavors were great and enjoyable

A: A bottle that does not match the photo on this website. No freshness date seen on the bottle. Pours an appropriate amber color with very little head but some lacing on the glass.

S: No hop aroma with kind of a fruity and possibly oxidized cool-aide smell.

T: I hope I got an oxidize bottle because it was very unpleasant. No hop aroma or flavor. This was labeled as a pale ale...WTF?

M: Low to medium carbonation.

D: I didn't finish this beer. I'll save my liver cells for more flavorful offerings.

Poured a dark brown color with a small amount of head on it. Smells a bit spicy, some caramel. Not much hops at all. Taste is about the same. Little bit of aftertaste, not bad though. Relatively smooth feel. Easy drinking beer. Not a great beer in my opinion, but it's alright. I could have a few more, but probably will try something else.

It had an average bronze body that had to be poured hard just to get some head and lace. I felt the body was watery and a little soapy. What little bit of lace there was tight. It has pasture like aroma. Its flavor is grainy and pasture like at first followed by a sweet adjunct like aftertaste. The mouthfeel is somewhat light.

A: Pours a darker caramel color. A little bit of head. Fairly unimpressive.

S: Some malty sweetness, a hint of caramel. Virtually no hops.

T: Same as the nose. The malt leads this one all the way, but not in a strong manner. The caramel malt taste is there, with a hint of sweetness. Hops are there providing a bit of balance, but for an APA, it needs a bit more of a hop kick. I'm not expecting IPA level, but I expect it to have a hint more bitterness where this has practically none.

M: Thin, average carbonation, and generally average.

D: It's alright. I probably wouldn't go for it again. Worth trying, but there are a lot better APAs out there.

First, the pour - hazy amber with a thin and wispy ivory head. But now, the aroma - another Berghoff brew with this cooked veggie smell. And this is a pale ale!!??!!

Taste is even worse. Cardboard, cooked veggies and no hop presence what-so-ever. Gritty, harsh finish with rotten grain leading the way. I'm afraid that any more Berghoff's will not find themselves in my cart anytime soon.
