Nice gold color, decent head.
Smells like cheap American macrobrew, but fortunately tastes better than it smells.
Sweet malt with a hint of citrus and grass.
Overall, decent for the price and surpassed my low expectations. No one would confuse this for good craft beer, but not bad for cheap easy summer drinking.

I quite like this for what it is. Much better than basic macro lagers. Grassy mild smell. Taste is predominantly a sweet grassiness, a little bit of citrus, and a mild kick of hops. Overall a sweet light brew, good for summer drinking. Not the best by far, mind you, but sold at a great price point at TJ's.

I can enjoy cheap, fizzy beer on occasion, but I would rather drink urine than another sip of this. Definitely in the running for the worst beer I've ever had.

Give this a try. This is significantly different than Budwiser, miller, coors, etc.. It has a pleasant honey like sweetness and tanginess that makes it really good. I think this is my new go-to.

Not a bad beer for $3.99 a 6pk
Not sure if the 6.2% abv is that accurate. Into my 3rd can and don't feel like I have drank anything more than a couple rolling rock pounders.

But overall it's not a bad brew for the cost.

bought a six pack of cans at trader joe's, craft beer in a can, who'd have thought. has a nice golden color, poured with a nice head, lasted a reasonable length of time. doesn't seem to have much aroma, faint cereal grain smell maybe. first taste was very mild, a little alcohol feel, light taste of hops, not bitter at all. further sips reinforced first impressions, light, crisp, smooth, pleasant after taste. seems like one of those beers that tastes best served cold and not lingered over. due to the 6.2% alcohol can't imagine this as a session beer but maybe for some people. have to savor the after taste more to see what flavors come out, maybe more grain, nutty, dry finish. but really I'm not much of a beer aficionado, but I am a beer advocate and I like this beer. I'll bet it would be nice in draft. will definitely drink again.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium yellow in color with heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and some faint straw yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy white head that quickly reduces to a medium to large patch of thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of grainy malts with light to moderate amounts of corn adjuncts. Hints of light fruits (apple) and grassy hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of slightly sweet grainy malts and corn adjuncts with light to moderate flavors of light fruits (apple and pear). That is followed by light amounts of grassy hops which imparts a light amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Crisp but slightly thin/watery.

O: This is not a bad AAL but it is certainly not a standout beer in any way... Compared to other AALs, this beer is better of price and very similar on flavor/aroma. Not a bitter as some of the bigger name brands in the style, slightly sweet. Easy to drink but not interesting enough for me to have more than one.

Pours a mild golden hue with a frothy white head into my glass. This was on the shelves at Trader Joe's.

Sweet and grainy upfront. Smells like a typical adjunct lager.

Clean, crisp and toasty. That's how I'd describe the taste. Very simple.

Finishes clean unlike a few other examples I've had.

Another decent, competitively-priced beer that I feel gives more popular examples a run for their money.

12 oz can into a pint glass. I like to think of today as National Trader Joe's Shitty Beer day.

A: Pours a clear golden color. The head is a bit less than a finger high and white in shade, with NO retention - literally none at all. No lacing, either.

S: Let's see, I get a bit of white grape, maybe some apple (not the nasty formaldehyde-y green apple, either), and cereal grain. Hops? No. It smells extremely bland instead of horrifying - that's good I guess.

T: Holy balls is this sweet. There seems to be a fuckload of cotton candy flavor throughout. Luckily, it covers up some of the nastier notes (cooked veggies, creamed corn) fairly well. It honestly reminds me of drinking a super sweet, cheap white wine...eh, I've drank worse.

M: Heavy on the sweetness, but the finish *is* slightly dry. It's not oppressive, at least - certainly I can get it down without retching. Fairly well carbonated.

O: Not a bad malt likka. I'm pretty sure buying 6 packs of this is cheaper per oz. than buying 40's of Mickey's or OE. This one is pretty good for getting drunk on the cheap. Sure, that's ALL it's good for, but sometimes this is an important facet of life. Why blow your $10 bombers in the pursuit of drunken bastardry (bitchery if you're female) when you can just get a case of this for about 44 cents?

Good looking pour with substantial head and golden hue. Neutral aroma. Apply first impression. Creamy on the palate.

[I am copying these notes over from RateBeer ... it does not require as long of review. I tasted this some time ago so I can't add anything.]

Pours a basic yellow. Fizzy white head that dissipates very quickly. Little lacing
Smells much like a fruity estery mess. Grain husks and creamed corn. Gross
Taste is right along with the smell. It's like drinking creamed corn juice that's been rotting for a few days. Awful overly sweet mess.
Undrinkable from the flavor. Medium body, fizzy complexion.

Never again.

Minhas Craft Brewery's Simpler Times Lager pours a slightly-darker-than-pale straw body. Its snow white head rises about an inch or so before beginning a slightly-more-leisurely-than-expected fall. Pockets of small bubbles appear and disappear in the glass. The only thing that really entices me here is the oily island of head residue that caps the liquid in my glass.

The nose remains unappealing despite repeated attempts to accustom my olfactory sensors to it. Ugh. Metals up front, estery acids in back. There's some sweet steamed grainy stuff in there somewhere. Must we press on? I suppose so…

This beer tastes better than it smells, but that's not saying much. Alcohol is the main flavor. It's supported by some pleasing malty sweetness. Hops contribute a bit of oregano-like flavor. The brew is fuller and richer on the palate than most American adjuncts.

If I were at a party and the only brew available were Simpler Times lager, I'd have to be particularly in the mood to drink beer to drink one. Still, I can think of much worse representations of the style. For 50 cents, this beer was worth a try, but doubt it'd be worth a repeat visit.

First time tasting this beer. 12oz can poured into a glass mug.

A- Golden yellow. Lots of bubbles streaming up. Tiny half finger head that quickly fizzles away. Looks OK.

S- Very little scent. Fruity malts, maybe corn. Slight alcohol.

T- Fusel alcohol up front, sweet fruity malts, corn, tiny bit of grassy hops. Tastes like a true Malt Liquor. Reminds me of Steel Reserve. Aftertaste is fusel alcohol, bready malts, and grassy hops.

M- Heavier than an average lager. Leaves the mouth feeling slick. Prickly carbonation.

Drinkability- It's not as smooth as a regular AAL. It's very obviously heavier on fusel alcohol.

O- Overall, if this was recategorized as a Malt Liquor then I'd review it in a better light. It's an ok bargain beer to get drunk on. I would not want to drink it as a lawn mower beer. It's an ok drink at night beer.
It's better than the Simpler Times Pilsener.

A tad sweet, best cold, nice malt taste. Good for a picnic beer, day at the beach, concert in the park, or paired with a really outrageously expensive steak...

This should be compared to bud or other beers that cost less than 3 bucks for a six pack(!), not Brunch Weasel or some fancy brew.

considering the price, this is a very good beer. can get a little too sweet, but it works well as a cheap beer to enjoy casually. heavier and thicker on the palate than you would expect for this kind of beer. probably the best beer i've had for under $5/six

Bought a 6-pack of this along with Simpler Times pilsner at Trader Joe's for $3.49. While the pilsner was an unexpected suprise and a very quality and drinkable beer, the lager left a little to be desired. Color was very standard; golden with a foamy soapy head, and a medium mouthfeel that is thicker than Budweiser and most macro-lagers. The aroma was the metallic sour tang associated with adjunct beers; cooked rice, farm grains, acidic malts. The taste was of sweet canned corn (vegetable, sugar, iron), a little cereal, starchy white bread, a slight herbal finish with the hops which were light and barely detectable. The canned corn flavor becomes overwhelming after too many beers. Not a bad lager, similar in taste and price to macro adjunct lagers. Not really my thing, I much prefer the clean mineral taste of Simpler Times pilsner instead.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: Trader Joe’s in Hillcrest (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $3.49 for a 6-pack
Purchased: June 19, 2013
Consumed: June 21, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a golden semi-murky color with 1-2 fingers of offwhite head that parted pretty quickly. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom. Minimal-to-no lacing. Bad retention on the top.

Smelled a lot of different flavors, reminding me somewhat of a lager, hefeweizen, Belgian ale and a blonde. Got faint banana, sour fruit, honey, grass, ashtray, bread lemon and corn with a heavy alcohol backbone.

Tasted honey, corn, lemon grass, faint banana cloves, tropical notes, cereal and faint smoky ashtray. Somehow it all worked together.

Light body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Abrupt, watery finish.

Not bad lager. Not a great one, but such a great value ($0.58 per beer). I’d probably have it again (after this 6-pack).

Appearance: Pale gold with a rapidly dissipating head and moderate lacing.

Smell: Beer. Corn and beer.

Taste: Beer. Creamed corn and beer.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, crisp, and creamy. Slight spicy aftertaste that disappears quickly.

The Verdict: Not bad. Make no mistake, this is bargain beer ($3.99/6 pack at Trader Joe's). But if you keep that in mind, it's near the head of the class. Figure in the high ABV and you've got one of the best bargains in bargain beers.

Simpler Times Lager has a thick, white head, a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, and practically no lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is of grain husk, subdued sweetness, and even a background smokiness. Taste is of sweet, lightly-roasted barley malt, with some slightly elevated hop bitterness to cut the sweetness. Mouthfeel is mostly light and watery, and Simpler Times Lager finishes semi-dry, fairly, refreshing, and drinkable. Overall, this is a passably good beer, and I suppose it’s worth checking out.

By no means is this beer awesome, nor is it a drain pour. But at roughly 3-4 bucks for a six pack of 6.2% abv beer, it's a super value.

Sure it may not be the tastiest, but on a summer day, grab one of these and mix it with some lemonade and you have a pretty decent radler at roughly 4-5% abv for only 50-75 cents.

Appearance: Yellow body and good head.

Sm ell: Smell likes and malt with a blend of light hop aroma.

Taste: Crisp and clean with a sweet malty flavor and small amount oft bitterness at the end.

Moutful: Slightly thicker than expected given the lightness of color and clarity.

Overall: For around 4 dollar a six pack at traders joes beats the other beers at higher price point. At 6.2% AB this will give you some kick. This is a great session beeer. I will sure buy some more of this beer !

Pours nearly golden, not quite fizzy yellow water; appears more robust than other beers of this style.

Smells like an adjunct lager. Sweet nose; slightly grainy smelling, but corn dominates. No hops, nothing offensive. How bad could it be?

Taste is dreadful! Super sweet, and I don't mean malty! Corn syrup dominates the flavor profile of this beer, with huge hints of sour apple and alcohol; no grains, no malt, no hops. Awful.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly firm; I figured with the amount of cane/corn sugar in this beer, it would be really thin and watery, but it actually has substance.

I imagine my great grandparents would have brewed a beer during prohibition that tasted much like this. If that's what Minhas was going for, then they hit the nail on the head, otherwise, this is a horrible representation of a fairly pedestrian style.

Note to self; beers labeled as coming from Monroe, WI must be avoided. Just because the can doesn't say Minhas, doesn't mean it didn't come from Minhas. I'm glad the 6 pack was only $3.49.

Light, bubbly head.

Light amber/golden color.

Simpler Times Lager’s sweet aroma mirrors its taste. I like this beer a lot more than I thought I would. Generally I tend toward darker beers but this is one of the exceptions. Very smooth, sweet honey-like taste with no distinctive bitter bite you’d expect from such a light beer. It pairs well with a large range of foods, so you don’t have to worry too much whether the flavors will clash. It's also low enough in alcohol that you can appreciate the rest of your meal.

This is definitely not a complicated beer. Its flavor profile is fairly one-dimensional, but pleasant nonetheless. There are many beers out there that have more depth and character, but when considering its price category, it’s an outstanding value. It’s head and shoulders above anything else that’s this inexpensive.

In short, it’s a great value and I’d recommend it to anyone on a tight budget who appreciates quality beer.

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 1.5 | feel: 1 | overall: 1.75

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass, a foamy, bone white head rises to the top. It shrinks considerably after a minute or two. The beer's color is that of filtered apple juice.

It doesn't look awful, but it doesn't look particularly good, either. 3/5

Smell: During the pour, this beer has a really malty fragrance. This quickly transitions to cidery and metallic notes, neither off-putting nor appetizing. 3/5

Taste: What begins as a rather unremarkable bubblegum mutates into an unpleasant flavor not unlike cough syrup. There are no perceptible hops here. The rather strong (for the style) ABV is somewhat concealed by the overwhelming sweetness, but that does nothing to save this mess of a brew—in fact, it reinforces its striking similarity to Robitussin. 1.5/5

Mouthfeel: It's flat and viscous—exactly the opposite of how this style ought to be. Very, very disappointing. 1/5

Overall: I purchased a six pack of this beer for $3.99 at Trader Joe's. Even at that price, I assure you, it's no bargain. Lackluster appearance and scent cannot much compensate for abysmal flavor and syrupy mouthfeel. There are better beers at this price point. Don't punish yourself with this swill. 1.75/5

12 oz can pours a mostly clear gold color with an ample cap of white head. Surprisingly un-fizzy and sits around a good while. A few smattering of lace.

Nose is not very appealing. grainy, corn-esque malt and fusel alcohol notes with no hop aroma make for a very pathetic smelling beer.

Green apple grains with rough alcohol. Really not much else to describe this one, I have had many 40's that have destroyed this in the flavor department. This is waaay nasty; Grimace-inducing on the very first sip. Dont think I will make it very far into this one, it will definitely be a drain pour...its just a matter of how much of it I can hold down!
