Pours a pale golden yellow with a white head with pretty good head retention.

Not much to the smell, maybe aluminum and some grain and yeast. But pretty decent aromas for a cheap can of beer.

Tastes of grass and wheat. Fairly crisp in the beginning, but there is some hop bitterness on the finish. Not bad. I would definitely pick up another sixer of this at Trader Joe's for the $2.99 price tag.

Crisp and clean mouthfeel. Very refreshing actually and very easy drinking.

Considering the price, this is a beer I'd revisit again for a lazy afternoon of watching tv.

All right, so first of all this beer is $2.99 at Trader Joes, so the cheap side of me has a soft spot for Simpler Times. But moreover, it's not a terrible beer at all. Some people reach for a Silver Bullet or a Bud Lite in the search for a cheap beer, but really they aren't much of a bargain unless you're getting a 30 pack (which you very well may be!).

But comparing 6-pack prices, Simpler Times is by far the best value out there. I'm not a huge lager fan, but this beer isn't too far behind the average import. The beer pours pale with a decent head retention. The aroma carries mostly metallic aromas from its aluminum casing, with slight hints of corn.

The flavor is heavily malted which gives it an extremely sweet, creamed corn flavor. There isn't much to this beer, but the important fact is that there is at least a modicum of flavor - you're not drinking a soda water with flecks of barley.

Overall this beer gets the job done, and it's perfect for Monday Night Football and some wings. It's really a bargain, so you might as well keep some on hand like I do.

This beer has a light amber colour and is only slightly carbonated. The smell is yeasty with a hint of fruit, maybe sour apple. The taste is of sour hops and honey which fades into a smooth aftertaste.

This beer is a little sour/acidic for my taste.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume III, Issue II:

Canned beer still has too many myths tied around it: Sure, craft brewers are canning, but the typical lager in a can has been shunned by the new emerging beer snob.

Crystal-clear golden color, decent enough head retention to last the duration of this session. Not much to the aroma; very clean with only a hint of cereal. Very crisp and light bodied. Right off, the crispness is in the hop bitterness, which aims all of its sharpness at the malt. The malt comes off grainy but clean; grassy with a hint of animal feed grain and cereal grain. Faintly nutty and husky; clean and dry palate throughout. Small breath of alcohol. Dry almost all the way with a linger of the alcohol and cereal grain on the tongue.

Pedestrian? Sure, but that is what the style calls for, and where Minhas lands with its beer. Good balance, and just enough in the aftertaste to know you want more. We dig this beer. Even though it's 6.2-percent ABV, we'll tag it as a session lager LOL. We envision a pitcher of this beer and a plate of chili-filled nachos grande.

Like most people, I admit drinking this beer for two reasons:

1) extremely cheap six-packs at Trader Joe's
2) 6.2% ABV packs a punch on the cheap

Then, you drink it and you remember why it's so cheap. I can't get past the strong apple juice flavor. I leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I ultimately end up regretting drinking it. It serves its purpose, but avoid if possible.

Like many other reviewers I'd say that this is a very good beer for the price ($3.99 for a 6-pack at Trader Joe's, which is the only place I've ever seen it in my parts). The label says 6.2% alcohol and it does have a bit of an alcohol-y edge that detracts fron the experience. That acknowledged, it does not have the sweet rice-y taste of American macros which is a big plus in my book and reason enough to keep buying it as my budget go-to beer. More hops would make it a lot better, but hey -- you can't pay for chuck and expect sirloin.

Poured from 12oz can into 16oz Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: Clear, pale straw color with a fairly large white head that dissipates quickly and leaves behind no lace.

Smell: Sweet apple is predominant, along with butter and grains.

Taste: Begins with a sweet buttery flavor, finishing with sweet/tart green apple. The finish also reveals mild grainy flavors and very very slight hop flavors.

Mouthfeel: Light body with crisp carbonation and a very clean, refreshing finish.

Drinkability: As an overall beer, this is largely average. However, this is an adjunct lager and, unlike most adjunct lager, this one has a decent amount of flavor (I especially like the tartness at the end). This is a very easy drinker, it's extremely refreshing, and it's dirt cheap. At only $3.99 for a sixer here in NYC, it's well worth having around. With a 6.5% ABV, this also packs a decent punch.

Again, not necessarily a great as an overall beer, but this is excellent for its style.

I finally gave in and decided I had to try this beer.

A- Soft golden, light yellow, loads of carbonation rising up the glass, fizzy white head dissipates quickly leaving just a mild foam on top.

S- Very light grain, some sweet corn as an adjunct, very mild aroma disappears quickly, leaving just a faint malty, grain, cereal biscuit on the nose.

T- Corn and malt up front, unrecognizable bitterness, dry finish, with a slight buttery residual finish.

M- Very highly carbonated, sharp and tingling, dry with a sweet finish, not much bitterness to end at all.

D- I guess this beer is not horrible, but it is close, flavor is uninteresting, very mild, off flavors from the adjuncts, nothing special, but at 6.2% if your just looking for that it will get the job done.

Cold 12oz can poured into pint glass. Pleasingly on the orange side of yellow, and clear, but big, big bubbles form a white head that instantly collapses. Very faint pils aroma.

Flavor is very, very mild. At first it does seem pleasantly crisp and dry, but a larger swallow reveals a little bit of cloying malt. So basically, this is really bland, and only a little bit offensive. The label says 6.2% ABV. If they were going for malt liquor, I'd say they've done well.

This looks like a good match!
Oh god... it kinda smells funky...
OH god! OH GROSS! It totally reminds me of Steel Reserve, only with less alcohol!
OH yuck! Get this out of my mouth!
Why would anyone buy this swill when for a buck less I can get the awesome tasting RED OVAL!

Seriously, do not bother with this....

A $4 sixpack at Trader Joe's that is better than most mass-produced American mega-brewers. What's not to like?

A: Golden clear with big bubbles and little head that dissipates quickly.
S: Strong beer smell. Nothing subtle or complex. It smells like your Dad and uncles did when they were out on the porch laughing late after dinner in the summer.
T: A little anaemic, the lager is a tad less tasty than the pils.
M: Fizzy and soda-like; light, simple, a little astringent.
D: At 6.2%, It's a tad over sessionable, but that's still how it'll be used. Great party beer.

A fine beer for the reason one purchases it. Runs about $3 for a six pack. Full flavor beer with a bit of a head ache in the brew. Enjoy one or two sitting on the porch after a hot day mowing grass. Also a decent beer for a tailgate or a float trip down the river. This golden lager is one I'll keep buying as long as the price stays the same.

Well-filtered straw-golden in color, with a head that looks like the first snow of the season--ultra-white and loosely packed. It stays fluffy for quite awhile, thanks to the multitude of never ending bubbles feeding it.

Aroma-wise this leans on the sweet side of things; flowery; lemon water; Corn Pops cereal. Clean and, well, simple...just like the can says. Thankfully, there's nothing wretched happening, as with so many others in the category.

There's a sweet fruity taste at the front of the sip, reminding of a juicy pear, but it yields quickly to a crisper, more bitter hops character, along with a lightly tart lemon-ness. Bready/grainy, like fresh-baked white bread. Mildly astringent bitterness lingers in the finish. Also some Juicy Fruit brand gum in the finish, which I also detected in their Red Oval lager yesterday. Hmm...

Mouthfeel is creamier than expected, balancing a round, slippery texture with the tickling bubbles.

What can you say about a brewery that currently has seven "Amercian Adjunct Lager"s in rotation...and 4 malt liquors!? Lots of negative stuff, surely, but you have to admire their commitment. And this is surprisingly decent stuff, easy to drink, if entirely lacking in depth, and without any kind of walloping flavor. There is room in the world for this kind of thing after all...

Pours out to a yellow straw with a head that dissipates immediately.

Smell is very faint, pretty normal macro beer smell.

Taste is a bit sweeter than your regular macro. Hops are still very light. With the higher alcohol, thought this makes sense on my tongue.

Mouthfeel is very thin and watery. Carbonation feels dead.

Drinkability is OK on this one. For the price of around 3 dollars, a six-pack, this isn't a bad cheap beer.

It's been too long since I've had Milwaukee's Best or Natty Light to accurately remember whether or not this tastes better or worse. I think it's a little better. Anyway, how else can you get just a 6 pack for $3.99? It actually wouldn't taste so bad if it weren't for this after taste of a tin and gin (or something awful like that) amalgam.

Slightly grassy aroma.

Sharp flavor very slight hoppines. A little skunky on the finish.

Very light mouthfeel but typical for style.

Overall not an outstanding beer but drinkable and at 6.2% and $2.99 for a six pack it is a better beer and a better value than similar styles in the price range. Good for when you need cheap beer in cans though.

All the guys at the shop indulge in the "King". I can't drink that shhit for many reasons, and my bottles of torpedo make me look all hotie-totie. So i had to find a beer I can tolorate in the can...

Looks like piss on the pour. Piss with foam.
Smells like piss. Piss with well...
Taste is much better than all the BMC offerings. So at 2.99 a six I've got a keeper here. This beer reminds me of when I was a kid at stater bros. and saw a guy with a six pack that had a brown label on the can and just said "beer" in black lower case letters. I'd kill to find a can of that...oh wait, I have

Purchased at Trader Joe's, $2.99 for a six pack. How could I go wrong? Pours a clear medium-gold color, with some decent white foam. On the nose I get grains, oats and a little sweet malt. On the palate, really not a whole lot going on--some more sweet malt, a little grain and some crisp, clean carbonation. Not that great, but a good value, served cold from the can, at $.50 a piece.

I was paid by a customer with a six pack of this... I think he got the better deal.

Unimpressive, to say the least. Four bucks a sixer is probably more than you SHOULD pay, honestly.

Mouth feel was watery. It's wet. There. Nothing spectacular.

Aroma was all can. Even after pouring into icy mugs, we couldn't smell anything but musty can and alcohol, and the alcohol was really little more than a "note".

I'm not generally a light lager drinker, but this flavor is over sweet. WAY over sweet. Syrupy. And not in a good way. For it's style, I'd almost rather grab the PBR or the Keystone. Brutal, I know, but it's bad, BAD beer... The ONLY hops in this can, are printed on the label. Pull this swill out at a real beer party, and you'll be escorted to the curb.

Where's the malt? At times, I thought that I tasted some apple, as if someone had switched my Simpler Times for a Wyder's.

Yeah... Wide berth is all I can warn you of with this one. I'll be calling my brother to punk him with a review! He'll KILL me! :)

Decided to review this beer for the heck of it, it was really cheap at Trader Joe's.

Poured from a can into a standard mug. The color is a clear, pale yellow with a white head of foam that quickly dissipates.

The smell is very sweet, corn is what I pick up most and not much else.

The taste is not too bad, actually, if you consider the style. It is very clean and sweet, but not much else. It certainly wasn't brewed with poor practices, but obviously will not knock you over either.

Mouthfeel is thin and carbonated.

Overall, a surprisingly ok beer for the price and the style. This is not a beer that I would go back to again and again, but not as bad as one might expect coming from the style. A good beer for cheap marinades, etc.

A can of Simpler Times Lager. It seems to me that simpler times only occur in memories. Lets see if this lager lodges itself into my memory. The beer pours a yellow-golden color with an inch of foam. Standard grainy malt in the aroma, the same on the palate. The adjunct is noticeable through the center. It finishes with the a little bitterness.

If I were to do a blind taste testing of beers from this category, I don't think I would be able to tell many of them apart, including this one. Not that memorable.

Wasn't impressed with the appearance and aroma, not much to either, yellow, faint.

Taste, a little reminiscient of Weinhard's, which ain't a bad thing. Kinda plain. Minimal hops, minimal malt. This is a plain beer, not bad, just, well simpler times I guess.

It's real drinkable, its pretty cheap and there's nothing to like or dislike.

12oz can into a DFH Signature glass pours a crisp bubbly dark yellow with a decent off white head. Aroma is slight sweet malt and mild booze. The taste is sweet grains with a slight butter quality as well. The beer is somewhat light with well hidden alcohol and decent carbonation. This beer is enjoyable for the price, certainly better than BMC to say the least.
