I have read most of the reviews about this beer. They bounce from "pretty good" to "pretty bad". Just goes to show that taste is in the mouth of the beholder. For me, I come in on the low end of rating. The old Huber brewery never made anything this poor even when "poor" beer was their business. At least Huber didn't try and put yellow corn syrup in a bottle and call it lager beer. Ugh, just plain UGH, and I intend to tell Trader Joe's next time I am there.

12oz can poured into a Shaker pint glass. Date stamp on bottom of can said "13 051 22".

Appearance: Clear golden yellow - a hint in the honey-orange range. White head upon pouring died down to nothing with no lacing. Above average color for an adjunct lager.

Smell: Crisp malt, hint of honey. Not a lot else.

Taste: Sweet, grainy - a bit cloying in the middle, then sweet tea bitterness towards the end. Gets a tad better as it warms up, but still exceedingly sweet in some cases.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, crisp, but a bit sticky towards the end of the sip.

Overall / Drinkability: Okay, nothing special. More flavorful than most mass market beers, but just okay. Drinkability is one and done. I finished it, but cannot see getting another.

"Enjoyed" out of the can. Tried this one because I enjoyed their pilsner and thought this would be similar.

The nose was very faint corn and maybe a touch of grassy hops. OK for a pilsner smell, I thought. The taste turned out to be awful, it was extremely sweet to the point of being syrupy. It tasted like someone took the juice from canned corn and added beer flavored Kool-Aid mix. The one good thing I can say is that it hid the alcohol well.

If you like sweet canned beer that gets you hammered, look no further. If not, go with their pilsner - it costs the same and is a much better beer.

Served in a 14 oz. pilsner glass

Pours out a clear light golden color with a fizzy white one half finger head. With decent lacing and retention to last through out the life of beer.

The aroma is light with cereal grains, soft sweet malt, and grassy hop.

The taste full of light cereal grain and honey sweet malt. I will assume that the alcohol plays a role in the mild sweetness. Either way the finish is smooth and clean, with only a bit of sweetness lingering. Refreshing

Light in body and moderately carbonated. Super easy to drink.

Overall this American lager is another example from Trader Joe's of a tasty example of an American style of lager. For the price yes i would buy again. Perfect for anything summer.

Appearance: Dark golden-yellow with copious amounts of carbonation. Head is huge and fluffy on initial pour, but quickly dissipates to practically nothing, leaving little trace of its presence on the glass.

Smell: Lightly malty, with a few twinges of hops.

Taste: Sickeningly sweet. Ugh. Liike, syrupy, sweet. A stale sweet. Like a really sugary candy past its prime. Some skunky hops keep it from being overwhelming, but this is not something I am enjoying at all.

Mouthfeel: Pretty full-bodied for a lager. Nothing clean or crisp here. its all saccharine stickiness, blegh. There is an interesting bitter aftertaste, but it seems so feeble compared to the sweetness.

12oz can poured into my Ithaca glass. It poured golden in color with a thin, bubbly white head barely covering the top of the beer.

The aroma shows a lot of crisp fruits to it with strong apple and pear notes to it. I get some sweet, almost sugary graininess to it as well.

The taste also shows a lot of crisp fruits to it throughout. I get a little more of a balancing bitterness in the finish though, which helps a little. The apple and pear like flavors are still pretty dominant for me though.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being moderate. Overall, I didn't think it was that great of a beer even for the style. The crisp fruitiness and sweet, sugary flavors were just too dominant and took away from the drinkability for me. I don't think it compares favorable to other readily available beers of the style.

Review from notes.
Pours a straw yellow into my trusty dimpled mug with a good fingers worth of head that dissipates fairly quickly w/o lacing.
Smells of sweet cereal grains, mostly corn with a slight hop smell as well as the alcohol within'
Taste/mouthfeel the aforementioned sweet grains hit first followed by a bit of hop for a crisp, yet boozy finish with the 6.2% abv very much in evidence, and despite the finger's worth of head the carbonation was mild giving the beer a medium body that could definitely work one over in the heat or sessioning. Never saw the stuff before and for $2.99 for a sixer of cans @ Trader Joe's, where I always seem to find something interesting to try, and a pretty heavy abv for the price it's definitely worth the pick up. Overall not bad, in my notes I wrote, "Like a Yuengling, minus the skunk/funk; add sweetness, abv and a Charles Shaw price."

Poured from a can into a pint glass.

A: Light gold in color. Yields a one finger white head. Not many bubbles rising. Good lacing.

S: I believe they claim this beer does not use adjuncts but the taste still comes across as cereal grains, primarily corn. Dry wine aroma. Very interesting for the style.

T: Similar to many other adjunct lagers with maybe a little more cereal sweetness. Very faint citrus hops.

M: Big body for the style, but not so much to affect drinkability. Moderate carbonation.

O: Great beer for the price. Good to have in stock for "in-home" consumption but will not find a place in the cooler as my "boat beer" or "lawnmower beer." It's just a little too sweet and full bodied for a hot day.

This is a great beer for the money, and it also very convenient because it comes in a can.

Appearance: Its an American Lager. I think you know what you are getting here.

Smell: See above.

Taste: It is a little on the sweet side, even for an American lager, but for the hooch that you are getting out of it....well worth it.

Overall: GREAT BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.
