The beer that started the entire stubby beer bottle craze is back! Made with the original recipe from yester-year, it is a refreshing and malty beer made with only the finest 2-row malted barley and sun ripened hops that create a light and smooth finish. Carbonation dances off your tongue and reminds you that the best things in life are crisp just like the northwoods! Look for it in your favorite retailer and on premise establishment.

Unknown vintage (presumably summer/fall 2021); drank 10/5/21 @ the Yarchives.

See-through yellow/orange appearance.

A violent pour yielded a small white head; decent lace.

Burnt wheat, caramel & rotten corn notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Burnt wheat & cream flavors; mild caramel & rotten corn notes on the finish.

Just a real unpleasant aftertaste mars this. Not one I'll return to.

I got a 24pck of shortys from a beer store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured a clear golden with fizzy head to start which dissipated quickly and left no lace. The scent had malt and grain notes with subtle finishing hop. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with grain and malt with clean hop finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.

Its not great, but im not disappointed. I will say the price per bottle is steep, and i wont be buying it again, but id surely take a free one. Just a slightly subpar lager without much going on.

i see most raters have given this a poor ratting i would give this slightly higher then poor. i have been drinking for over fifty years started to drink when there were no craft beers and just a few premium beers - being young we cold not afford a premium so it was Rhinelander, Buckhorn or Wisconsin Gold Label- this one reminds me the the old taste of beer back in the late 60's and early 70"

While the strong flavors often found in craft beer find favor in the curious palates of drinkers, many brewers entice others with a flavor of familiarity, comfort and standardization.

Rhinelander meets those need with Export Beer, a cereal-centric lager that pours a pale golden hue and with a faint haze. As is frothy bubble build a foamy cap, its scent rolls along with cereal, baking break and a light floral scent. An initial palate of sweetness is of honey, bread, cereal and bran to start things off malty but light.

Staying firm over the middle palate, the floral nature of hops trends lightly spicy with a peppery, grassy and lemony twinge while the malt sweetness begins to relax. Hints of sulfur, apple and raw grain add an earthy set of complexities that gives the lager a sense of charm.

Medium bodied but reading fuller like Dortmunder-types of beer, the lager is malty dry with a creamy but nearly minty hop balance that closes the session rounded and plump with bready malts that extend into a medium length aftertaste of lemongrass and lemon pepper.

There are times, WRT The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody, that I feel compelled to laugh. Previously, it was in frustration at the mounting and (seemingly) insurmountable volume, but in this case, it is at the small and subsumable volume of a "Shorty". Yo, Shorty, let's get it on! I am short in stature as a male, but people constantly make the mistake of thinking that I only like women of my height. Au contraire! I have had many statuesque girlfriends, but for them, I was a novelty & not a keeper. 8=( I like being their little monkey, climbing all over them as they laugh & giggle. Big things come in little packages. Many thanks to my local, in-person trader, tone77, for dropping this off for me!

From the bottle: "Shorty"; "Refreshing as Wisconsin's Northwoods".

I was not pleased by the screw-top nature of this pee-wee bottle, but I still conducted a gentle pour. No matter how vigorous my swirl, I could not raise anything more than a skim of foam as head. Sometimes, you just have to concede & give up. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with filament brightness. Nose was off, but only slightly off. It had a honey-like sweetness, but something just did not seem right. Mouthfeel was kind of thin and watery, The taste was Minhas light - plastic, bubble gum & dry cleaning plant & I could hear the Cyberleader suit calling me, but not strongly enough nor in enough volume to risk being found by Doctor Who and/or Torchwood. It strikes me that ALL Minhas products nee beers should be put in shorty/stubby/pony bottles for quick & easy consumption. Less to suffer through that way. Finish was semi-dry, moderately passable & another example of a flawed style. Enjoy!

From notes taken 08/21/16:

No head to speak of. Just some large bubbles on the surface. A mostly clear dull golden amber. Sweet grainy and honey aromas typical of the adjunct/pale lager style. Much the same to the taste, but thankfully less sweet than it could be with cleaner, floral hopping providing balance. Still, seems watered down, but could more so reflect mouthfeel, which is light, and low in carbonation for the style. Still, refreshing in its own right. Overall, weak, I’m sorry to say.

Attractive light gold color with the barest minimum of white cap.

Faint aroma of grain with a wisp of flowery honeyness.

Flavor is light lager like, rather nondescript, with a slight hint of bubblegum in the finish and aftertaste.

Light medium texture with balancing carbonation.

This is one best drunk very cold. Oh, the flavor isn't terrible but chilling rounds off the rough edges a bit.
