207ml stubby a ways back, from notes

A clear golden liquids a little darker then expected with just a few bubbles and a thin film that's gone in seconds leaving no lace

S sour fruit, wet cardboard and a little toffee with faint chemical notes

T more toffee and a faint herbal aspect, the sour notes don't work very well with some moldy wet wood

M more body and bubbles then I'd guess after looking at it, aftertaste is faint and fast, finishes clean thankfully

O 207ml is a good serving size for this one, not overly offensive like many from this brewer but not something I'd want to drink again

It's better then I expected but that's not saying much, don't bother

I think these used to come in green cans back in the day. Been dying to try this since basically forever. Have camped not too far from Rhinelander for years but even in the 90's this beers hey day was long gone. Surprised to find an eight pack of shorties on the shelf in Grand Rapids, Mn and decided it was time.

A-Oak/golden color...

S-Very sweet. Vanilla....cooked vegies...some butterscotch...

T-Again very sweet....Diacety lade with butterscotch, caramel and cooked veggies....

M-Medium body..a little sticky sweet.

O-Normally a beer heavy with Diacetyl is not something I enjoy but in this case it actually makes this beer slightly interesting. It seems off but I am not sure that is not by design. Certainly has more flavor than most in this class but if you are looking for a clean, crisp, flavorless macro lager this is not it. Not saying this is good but I had no problem drinking the 8 little shorties...

Have had plenty of these shorties to give an honest review, not a high end micro but a sweet, golden, old style lager with a smooth finish, Pairs well with canoe trips and lawn mowing.

Price is right and finish is smooth for a low end beer.

It is not a complex micro, but is far from brat beer IMO.

"Shorty" bottle poured into a bar glass.

A - Poured out a lifeless yellow color with no head and not even a hint of lacing.

S - Cooked corn with a sickening sweetness.

T - Kind of like a really bad beer with sugar added. I only rated 1.25 since I am sure I will eventually try something worth of a 1.

M - Thick and syrupy.

O - This is the kind of beer that gives "bad beer" a bad reputation. This has to be the worst beer I have had in a long while. I rarely can't finish a beer, but even in a shorty bottle I couldn't finish it.

Appearance - Medium-light yellow. Clear. Short white, soapy head. Short-lived.

Smell - Reasonably noticeable for style. Slightly funky light pale malt. A little corn.

Taste - Light. Sweet malt with no noticeable hops. Features a cloying corn flavor.

Mouthfeel - Light and crisp.

Overall - This beer doesn't repay paying attention. It does come in a moderately cool shawty bottle.

Reincarnated Rhinelander, saved from destruction from the beer gods yet again. I never drank the original Rhinelander, but enjoyed it by the case in the 70s at about a $4.69 retail, sold in returnable bottle cases.

2-7oz 'shorties' to fill my beer stein, an off-white head rose to about 1.5 fingers and lingered awhile, while the beer underneath poured to an appetizing golden color, similar to the color of apple juice. Slight smell of malt and corn combined; the taste of a very refreshing export lager, with a lingering sweetness. Just enough carbonation to provide a bit of bite.

Could this recipe be the same one that Minhas uses to brew Regal Brau? I've never had both side-by-side, but this version of Rhinelander seems remarkably similar.

Nice summer refresher at an affordable price.

A thank you to cpolking for sending this beer. Poured from 2 brown 7 oz. bottles. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, some grains. Taste is crisp, malts, corn, some grains. Feels light and highly carbonated in the mouth and overall is your standard, run of the mill AAL.

207ml bottle, label sez 'Shorty Export Beer' for we good folks north of the 49th, who must be tired of those American-style bombers of beer flooding the shelves lately. Time to fix that, eh, Minhas?

This beer pours a clear bright apple juice colour, with a wisp of fizzy indeterminately hued head, as it phases out in less than a blink of an eye. Same goes for any lace you might have been expecting.

It smells of sweet, sugary corn gruel, nail polish remover, and a faint dead leaves on the ground rotten vegetation essence. Urg. The taste is more saccharine, slick corn, some rice pudding runoff, a lesser, but still within the realm of evil swirling, undead phenolic cheap white wine character, and a comparatively inoffensive, but at the same time over-matched, earthy dryness.

The bubbles are pretty well comatose, the body medium weight, sure, but accompanied by a tacky, cloying, and somewhat oily texture. It finishes with a rehash of all of the above, though thankfully waning.

I sure hope that the marketing pap on the bottle (sorry, 'shorty') is wrong about Wisconsin's Northwoods having the same refreshing attributes as this beer - otherwise I'd probably have to hold my nose if ever visited there. The real silver lining here is that there was only 7oz of this stuff to suffer through.
