Rich and Malty
A malty Dubbel-style amber beer with rich, deep and bittersweet flavours.
For Grimbergen Double Ambrée, hints of caramel, dried plums and hops mix with a deep maltiness featuring lots of caramelized notes. The overall sensation is bittersweet, with aromas dominated by sweet ripe fruits.

The pickings were pretty slim on our Antarctica cruise ship, so went with a bottle of this.
The beer pours a fairly dark amber copper color with fairly decent head retention and light lacing. Not picking up a whole lot on the nose, just some light sweet malt and Belgian spices, with something of an underlying roasty quality as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this fairly dry Belgian double, with some burnt toast on the finish. This beer comes across as a Belgian version of a Schwartzbier, at least to my palate. Mouthfeel is fairly light, and the alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile. So this come across as an easy going, easy drinking Belgian double.
Nothing special or complicated here, but it's an easy to appreciate and enjoy Belgian double. That being said, probably don't need to order another one of these any time soon

Had aboard a Viking Cruise from bottle. Surprisingly good double amber.
