Poured a light amber gold with a 1 cm head that vanished without a trace.

Skunked. Another rotten vegetable smell is overwhelming everything under the skunk. Underneath that, a slight bread loaf appeared.

Mouthfeel was crisp and light.

Taste was a wave of bitter, medium at first, then it overpowers all. Warms over the tongue without any sweetness. I think this lacks definition, personally.

This is trying really hard to be average. As you drink it, it doesn't even try to flatter itself. Tastes too unbalanced for me. Don't think I'll have another.

Straw yellow with a 2" ultra-chunky head. Mounds of lacing frolic on the glass.

Light aroma with a touch of malt and hops, neither making a strong presence. Moderately yeasty and grassy.

Light, semi-bitter flavour. DMS/corn makes its presence known. Very macro-esque... bleh.

Ultra thin with moderate carbonation.

Moderately drinkable, but just flat out disappointing. Was hoping for more, being that I'm drinking this here in its home city.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured a dark copper color with a good fingers worth of head that settles to a thin layer with no lacing to speak of.

S: Little skunk here... very grassy with a little lemon zest mixed in.

T: Little flat on flavor.. There is skunk here... pretty grassy here with touches of graininess but not much else here.

M: Pretty crisp and well carbonated but pretty flat over all

O: Not very pilsner like to me... A little more Euro lager for my taste. Not bad if you a thirsty.

Appearance – Light yellow in color with a tinge of orange and a smallish head.

Smell – Light citrusy hops with some sweetish malts that felt off-style.

Taste – The big citrus and sweet, orangish malt made this one off-style.

Mouthfeel – This was light-bodied, which is OK, but the nice, fluffy mouthfeel was absent.

Sinkability – This one didn’t cut the mustard.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a Belgian tulip glass.

A: Pours a copper ale with a thin white head that quickly dissipates into a wispy lace.

S: Skunky funky aroma.

T: Skunky lager that is more tart and bitter than sweet.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: I should have stopped drinking this after a couple of sips – but I hoped it would get better – it didn’t.

Staropramen Premium Lager is sparkling, clear and golden with a thin, creamy, blotchy white head that leaves outstanding lacing. It has a funky aroma, fruity and grassy. It's pretty light bodied and quite smooth with a little grit in the finish. There's not much flavor at all-- just a touch of funk and a lightly bitter finish. It has a lingering herbal bitterness. This doesn't taste that great, but it goes down smoothly. The lingering bitterness lets me know I'm drinking beer.

Fairly average Euro Pale Lager. Great feel, and I could easily consume this on a overly warm day. However, if not served cold it has a vaguely metallic feel - while being subtly bitter in a problematic manner.

reviewed 27 April 2008, Cataluña, Spain. best by date of 11 October 2008.

pours an orangey-apricot golden with little head. what head there is fades very fast and leaves little lacing in the middle, no stickage. looks very fizzy.

smell is mostly metallic, with some corn and malt notes.

taste also mostly metallic, though the malt shines through a bit more and helps it out a little. bitterness on the finish. just a bit on the crisp side on the crispness-smoothness ratio.

m/d is quite fizzy and light, one step above water. much less there than I would hope for. seems much more like a stereotypical cheap american macro lager than anything self-respecting pilsner should be. although it's light and crispy, leaves a bitter stickiness on the finish.

Pours bright gold, excellent clarity, sizeable white cap and better than decent retention.

Bare whiff of skunkiness. What I mostly get is DMS, very light pale malt, and a vague sweetness - do they use adjuncts? No hop aroma that I can be sure of, and definitely nothing I'd call Saaz-y.
As a Czech pils, this is a subpar aroma, but as a Euro Lager it is at least average if not higher...

Flavor is a step down. Again rather sweet, with almost no bitterness to balance. No diacetyl, pretty clean. Where's the richness of the malt flavor?

Medium body. Medium/low carbonation could be a bit higher to make up for the lack of malt richness and severe lack of hops for the style. Not particularly drinkable, though on a hot day (like today) I'd have no trouble finishing one.

Pours a dark golden lager with a bubbly head that dissipates immediately. Medium carbonation. Smells of hay and straw, your typical Euro pils/lager. Tastes a like a pils with a little zesty spring flavor. A little of that heinekin style skunk flavor. Heavier than average carbonation, light crisp mouthfeel. This is what I would consider a session beer. Worth a try? Well I'll try any beer... once in this case.

A- Clear golden, head retention is kinda subpar. Little lacing.
S- The smell is of stale bread dough, a light papperyness, and a bit of noble hops.
T- It's got the right idea for a pilsner. It's sweet and lightly earthy. Slightly grassy. But there is just a lingering staleness that rings it down.
M- Medium-light body, too low on the carb.
O- This was underwhelming. I didn't particularly care for this beer. The staleness and low carbonation just don't do it for me.

Medium gold color, small foamy head. Yeasty and fruity aroma. Mild light bodied pilsner. A little malty, some flavor. Smooth taste, but a little artificial tasting. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is neutral. Some green bottle skunkyness. Really why bother drinking this stuff. Average beer at best.

Medium-gold colour but see through. Light head, some lacing, but none of it lasted very long. Lightly carbonated. When first poured, there was an aroma of apple / spice, a hint of cinammon that made me think this could be interesting. Carbonated mouthfeel, dry with a bitter sharp taste, some hops, malt but not in great tandem. The finish drops off quickly and I found it a little harsh and rough on the palate. The ingredients listed on the side of the can include mollose syrup and hop extract, at least they're up front about that, it looked and smelled better than it was.

I tried this beer on August 10, 2007 at the Esplanade Biermarket in Toronto. The beer was a deep translucent gold in colour with a very white small head that lasted mere seconds. The aroma on the other was quite foul with some soapy hints. The mouthfeel was thin-bodied and very crisp with a high level of carbonation. The taste was slightly malty with a strong presence of wheat.

A-Pours clear straw yellow with 1/4 inch of white head. Reduces almost instantly, leaving intricate lacing; more than I expected given the style.

S-Pale malt sweetness. Possibly some corn? Unappetizing.

T/M-Blah. Sweet, adjunct-y export lager macro swill. Unrefined, one dimensional pale malt sweetness. Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O-Nothing special, and not a particularly good example of the style.

Picked this up for $1.50 at Trader Joe's - why not? Bottle says best before 5 August 2012. No problem. Tasted 15 October 2011, reviewed from notes.

Pours a bright golden-orange color, like sparkling apple juice. Looks quite dark for a pilsner. Half-finger whitish head, fades fast, little lacing.

Smells rather nice. Some warm pilsner malt, hops that bring light fresh spice. Clean and crisp, with one exception: there's an odd background aroma, though, like a hint of apple and a hint of solvent.

Taste is thin, dominated mostly by the pale malts. Very little hop presence, tastes faded and soft rather than crisp.

Mouthfeel is fine. Thin body, watery texture, enough carbonation comes in late that I'm not disappointed.

I'll admit that I often finds pilsners to be rather blah. But this one stands out from the pack in being especially dull. It doesn't taste bad, but I have few positive things to say about it.

A: Poured a clear, medium orange with a ½ finger creamy, eggshell white colored head that settled to a thin, whispy, and sudsy covering leaving a visible rim lacing behind. Visible carbonation was very soft.

S: faint, some fresh grains and oranges. You really have to dig deep here to detect anything.

T: musky oranges for flavor. there was some green plant stalk hints as well. The initial sip was a turn off but the flavor faired better after that. A touch of metallic nature was evident while the finish found some sharp, sour citric tones to it.

M: light, a little rough. Some sour oranges and a dry lacing on the tongue with a green plant stalk lingering taste.

D: Not impressed overall here, at times was a turnoff and at others though it had some good crispness to it but still I struggled to find a reason to finish this and have to give this a pass and don't bother.

--Poured an average golden straw like in color. Slight head that cleared about half way through. Not much lacing.
--Initial smell that hits is that skunky european smell.
Although I did like this beer more than Pilsner Urquell, it is still not one of my favorites. It took a couple of sips to get over the skunky taste. Once I got used to it I enjoyed the bottom half. Overall this beer was one of the better Czech beers, I would like to try others.
Thx

I believe I actually tried this in Czech a few years ago and I enjoyed it. Maybe this review does not do the beer justice but this is the impression I got when I recently tried in a can I got from the BeerStore in Kingston Ontario.

Appearance- This beer is almost an orange amber color. It has both a full head of foam that will form some nice foamy lace.

Smell- A very cheap and adjunct mass produced lager smell. A bit grassy

Taste- The first thing I tasted was metal then I tasted a bit of hops and even less but some malt. I would say the flavor was less than average.

Mouthfeel- It feels watery and there was not much for carbonation.

Drinkability- I thought it was very bland and cheaply made.

This brew poured a medium head of small to large white bubbles that mostly diminished and left a fair lacing. The body was a transparent light golden color. It had a mild hop aroma. It was initially bitter with a mild hop flavor. The inital bite smoothened in in the finish and left a slightly tingly lingering mouthfeel.

Had 500 ml bottle in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, poured in room temp 300 ml ale glass

A: beautiful head; clear golden yellow; lacing rather nice
S: stale, lagery odor
T: very mild, rather sweet beer; flavor nondescript lager; perfect on a hot day, but not if you want to taste your beer
M: decent but watery

A solid, nonjudgmental beer

Dark gold with a light copper glow lets me know there is more than pils malt in this one. Big whiff of skunk overwhelms all else. Grass clipping hoppiness peaks through but malt is thin and can't stand up to the green bottle curse. Even if this had been deskunked it wouldn't have been close to the Czech pilsener style. More in line with the average Euro pale lager. I would take semi-fresh Urquell over this, which isn't saying much.

I had this one on tap, during a recent trip to Italy. It was served during a a nice dinner. I was a little dissapointed. The brew is unremarkably ordinary. It's a light yellow color with a slight white head. Nice and soapy lace, but not much else. The aroma is faint, with a hint of grain and a touch of malt. It's a very fleeting and light smell. It's not a good characteristic to have to search for an aroma. The taste is a little sweeter than an American lager, but it's very subdued. The beer is light, lightly carbonated, and simple. The finish is a little watery. It's an everyday drinking beer...a worthy lawnmower beer, but nothing more.
