Man -- lots of different Staropramen labels to choose from.

Grabbed a sixer of this at a local grocer where it was on closeout. Best before August 25, 2012... but green bottles.

A -- Pours a clear, deep gold color with a dense, very sticky & long-lasting head that leaves great lacing.

S -- Skunky up front, but it dissipates with some time given. Typical Pils bready malt and Saaz hop nose.

T -- Has that grainy to bready malt character up front balanced out with spicy Saaz hops at the finish and hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Very reminiscent of Budvar. There's also a light, vague fruitiness in the aftertaste that reminds me of Urquell too.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp and has a light creaminess in-between. Body is light to light-medium.

O -- Everything you could want in a Czech Pils, aside from the green bottle curse.

More euro trash beer. Staropramen is a light cold colour. Pours with a nice head, but the foam quickly recedes to film. Not much lace to speak of. Just a few whiffs sporatically placed around the glass. Makes the glass look broken, actually. Wet cardboard smell. Reminds me when I once helped a friend move in the rain. Bit skunky as well. Green bottle/lightstruck, or purpusely done? You decide. It's not an overwhelming skunk, so I'm leaning towards the latter. Starts out bland, like soggy cereal. Not much of anything expected in a beer, like hops, malt, or even adjuncts. Aftertaste is a bit skunky sour. I'm not sure what it is, but I hate the mouthfeel. It's dry, oily and leaves an unpleasant sensation on the side of the tongues. Not something I would drink again. I could state that if offered for free, I might take it. But that only means it wasn't truly horrible. I'd take Bud Light if offered for free, I might even take Colt 45 if offered for free. Don't get this beer.

Apperance: rich gold color with massive rocky head, lush and foamy. Big chunky, sticky lacing. The walls of my glass were left with a spider web of lacing.

Smell: smell of grains and a traditional pilsner "skunk" nose. Touch of sweet caramel and honey.

Taste: smooth taste with slight sweetness. Predominantly grains and corn and a sutle amount of hops, sort of floral taste. Very crisp finish and a great smooth body. Aftertaste holds a bit watery as it goes down.

I must say that I enjoyed this beer. A great traditional "middle of the road" Czech pilsner.

This came recommended by the Purvis Wine Cellars , usually an excellent source for beers.Perhaps my expectations were a little too high based on this recommendation.
However it is an enjoyable beer that is inoffensive not at all distinctive but does have some endearing qualities.
The clear lager is mid gold with and orange hue and has a white frothy head that sits atop a very fine and persistant bead.
The smell is all European malty lager and so really smells like hundreds of other beers.
The taste is initially as expected from the smell , sweetish biscuity sort ofd thing but it very smoothly moves into the dry sharp finish which makes this beer just that little more enjoyable.
It has sharpness in the mouth which would make it a reasonable session beer.
Just a ppleasant but un exciting Lager

Appearance: Poured into a stange. The color is gold or bronze. Four fingers of fluffy, white head dissipated quickly to leave trails of foam on the glass, a billowy cap, and, eventually, a spotted lacing and ring around the edge.

Smell: It has that enticing Czech skunkiness right out of the bottle. The aroma is clean and crisp with tons of barnyard hay and grassy Saaz hops. There is also lemon zest, apple tartness, and spice.

Taste: Delicious and refreshing. Lots of light malts, Saaziness (grass and bitterness), lemon zest, green apple tartness, and a little metallic bitterness.

Drinkability: It is not going to blow one away with its complexity, but it is a very tasty pilsner that, as far as my experience goes, exemplifies the style.

Purchased from Target on University, Huntsville, AL.

Pours a dark orangey color with a thick white head. Head dissipates to a thin film over the beer after a while. Nice presentation.

Aroma of some skunkiness, as expected for the style, with a bit of malty sweetness beneath. No hops present.

Flavor much the same, but with a dry malty aftertaste. Reasonably pleasant and refreshing.

Mouthfeel moderate, but good for a Czech Pilsener. Nice job.

Overall, I won't buy this again, but as a Czech Pilsener this is quite a good one. Fans of the style might like it.

Bright gold/straw color with only a little head that quickly dissipates into spotty lacing.

The nose is grainy cereal with a faint hop scent. There's also a slight corn smell, alarming only because I'm fairly certain that particular grain doesn't make its way into European beers.

Pretty good hop/malt interplay with the Saaz bitterness that is starting to grow on me. Fairly nice dry finish. An uneventful but well-executed beer.

Medium bodied with the right amount of carbonation makes for a great party beer if you are having more closed-minded guests over.

Medium-gold colour but see through. Light head, some lacing, but none of it lasted very long. Lightly carbonated. When first poured, there was an aroma of apple / spice, a hint of cinammon that made me think this could be interesting. Carbonated mouthfeel, dry with a bitter sharp taste, some hops, malt but not in great tandem. The finish drops off quickly and I found it a little harsh and rough on the palate. The ingredients listed on the side of the can include mollose syrup and hop extract, at least they're up front about that, it looked and smelled better than it was.

Half litre bottle, not too much of a head. Very nice colour, looks almost like a belgian pale ale. Smells of saaz, also got hints of red cabbage. Sweeter than other czech beers, probably because of the syrup. Hints of flowers, not much bitterness. Nice mouthfull for a lager. This was my go-to before I really got into exploring different beers and I still drink it on occasions.

Poured into a pilsner glass.

A - Sparkling golden hue populated with rising suds. Two tip head which sat around a good while. Spotted lacing.

S - Hop tinge and some herbal grain notes. Not potent, but certainly not bad.

T - Champagne like initially, then a citrus like zest kicks in before you actually reach the malt body. Has a nice earth tone to it's aftertaste. Much better than I was expecting.

M - Carbonation is a bit high, light body, sharp feel on the palate. No residues left over, as it finishes quite dry.

D - Pretty good, actually. I was impressed with this one, and it certainly has some refining characteristics to it. Although the abv is low, I can't see making this a bbq beer or anything, but one or two with dinner would probably work very well. Worth a try.
