Pour from a bottle. Slightly darker-than-straw yellow color. About a finger of head, fairly long lasting. Lacing noted down the glass.

Smell is pleasant. Hoppy and sweet. Very nice.

Initial taste is slightly astringency. Subsequent sips become more pleasant. Fairly balanced hop and malt characteristics. Neutral mouthfeel, goes well with style.

Overall, not a bad beer, but nothing special either. (408 characters)

Staropramen Lager

Look 8/10

Taste 31/40
Feel 8/10
Drinkability 18/20

Overall 79/100

Rather straight forward and simple. Won't Stand out. Also was rather surprising how easy to drink and enjoy it was. While I may never seek it out again for me. May make a great 'gateway' beer for an adjunct drinker. I have I thing great to say about it and nothing bad~ (370 characters)

Nice golden body with a thick, sticky, white head; nice rings and globs of foam remain on the glass after every drink. Warm, grainy aroma; old hay and straw. Flavor exudes a light, cereal-like character; toasty with biscuit tones; mild hop bitterness at the finish. Light, crisp, clean and dry finish.

A very good, malt-forward pilsner. Easy to drink with good balance and decent complexity. There is a brightness and crispness to the beer, overall, along with a gentle warmth yet still remains light and refreshing. (517 characters)

App: Typically clear lager with thin head and strong bubbles. A little darker than other pilsners, but not so much as a pale ale.
Smell: Grainy and sweet, with a slight skunkiness that is common in many import lagers. Slight bready like yeast presence. Mild aroma of freshly cut grass. Nothing super exciting.
Taste: Well balanced flavors of both malt and hops with neither being overbearing or unpleasant. Normal, everyday pils that neither excites nor disappoints. Slight bitter skunky taste on the sides and back of tongue. Lingering bitterness. Very easy to drink.
Mouth: Heavily carbonated as most pilsners. Light and effervescent on the tongue. Lighter in terms of body. (679 characters)

Poured from a chilled 500ml bottle into a 330ml glass at a restaurant (obviously, had to pour it twice).
Light golden amber appearance with two and a half (of my thin) finger(s) head, with an aroma that initially yields many citrus notes that give way to a more "crackery" scent as the head disappears.
Taste is faintly herbal with an even fainter citrus but somehow doesn't break through that "faint" level of flavour, until when swallowed it does, for but a millisecond, give a hint of that hops taste, before giving way to a generic carbonation aftertaste. Interestingly, I did notice a boozy hint of vanilla that I expect in liquor, but this only happened on a couple sips somewhere in the middle of the whole experience; it's kind of odd that it never really replicated itself. Mouthfeel is okay, without much to notice; it's very difficult to say there is much smoothness or roughness going on with the carbonation, either way. This in a way serves to pinpoint the problem with this beer.
I think the elements of this beverage which make it a beer are fighting to the death with carbonated water for dominance over the flavour instead of working together; right now the water has the upper hand. It's not bad, but strikes me as nothing more than the export-quality macro brew one would expect to find among the foreign beers in Bulgaria these days. I really would have liked it more if there were more hops; for me, it would have gone from "okay" to "nice." (1,463 characters)

Completely clear and with a golden hue, this import beer offers a nose that is grassy, a little skunked, a little grainy, and a little bit caramel like. The foam on this beer looks nice at first and seems rather lumpy following a good pour, but it does settle itself down in due time, still leaving a good deal of lace as you consume.

Tasting this beer reveals a flavor that is a little better than its nose indicates. The flavors of sweet, caramel- like malts are present, along with the flavors of herbs and lightly spiced hops. There is a certain vegetable- like component to the taste as well with some fruit and a somewhat metallic finish.

The Czech Republic is world- renown for creating some classis beers. This particular beer doesn’t rank among those classics for several important reasons. I like the lacing and the easy- going nature of the taste, but some of the flavors are a tad off base. It would taste better if the skunkiness could be purged from the flavor but that will only happen when the brewer stops packaging it in green bottles.

Overall, this isn’t a bad beer. But there are others that are certainly better representatives of the Czech Republic and its important heritage. For these reasons, I cannot rate this one much better than average overall. (1,282 characters)

This crisp, refreshing Czech lager reminds me of the time we spent in Prague.

I learned what true pilsners are, and how they can make a hot summer day more enjoyable.

On tap here in BRU in Phily, enjoyable, and reminiscent of a fabulous trip through Central Europe. (269 characters)

T: Taste is similar with some citrus, malt sweetness and grain. tart bitterness and a fairly clean finish.

500 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from LCBO for $2.50 CDN.

Appearance - bright clean and clear golden color. Capped by about two fingers of fluffy white head with good retention. Tons of lively bubbles and a good amount of lacing left behind.

Smell - grassy with a few floral aspects. Less biscuity than many others in the style.

Taste - crisp and clean even a bit creamy. The grassy and floral notes carry over into the taste. A bit of a bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - crisp, with above average carbonation. Moderately dry finish.

Overall- a good if not great pilsner, certainly enjoyable, but nothing stands out to separate from others. (661 characters)

Staropramen Prague Lager

A- Pretty, clear, and surprisingly nice head. Thick lacing. Wheat in color, great carbonation bubbles.

S- A little sweet on the nose. Has that smell boring lagers have- like an old sponge. That sounds more negative than it should, particularly for this beer. It’s just an average “beer” smell.

T- Wheaty, light hops. Clean and soapy. Good carbonation, turned out to be a decent lager. Doesn’t blow me away, but it would be fine as a session beer. (482 characters)

A - darker than expected for this style. White head drops quickly. Some light lacing.

S - very very faint smells. Difficult to perceive. Some rougher jerky like hops.

T - sucker punch of bitterness completely unexpected. Some sweet malty flavors.

M - very smooth and malty with a tiny sparkle of effervescance

D - was expecting a less bold more universal flavor. And was quite surprised by the character of this beer. (424 characters)

Had this over a friends house the other night.
Pale golden straw color with a thin white head. It lacked carbonation and looked pretty boring just sitting there.
The aroma has a pale malt, grassy smell with barly any hop presence.
The taste is plain and boring but is drinkable. There is a slight hop taste, I'm guessing saaz.
A bit more malty with pale malts and pilsner malts only with a breadiness at finish.
Drinks dry and slightly bitter on the palate.
This was an okay beer but I think the hop profile could more pronounced. (530 characters)

Bottle into Duvel glass

Appearance: Piss yellow, typical lager color, 1 finger off white head

Smell: bready notes, slight roasted malt, nothim much else.. very subtle earthy hops

Taste: very bready, almost rye taste, for the style there is plenty of flavor for sure.

mouthfeel: great carbonation and relatively full bodied feel for a lighter beer

overall: Probably my favorite lager, with Summerfest close behind. Basically, it's a Macro made the way it should be, with some actual flavor characteristics. Very smooth and refreshing, also if you are ever in Prague, visit the brewery and try this on draft, it's amazing. (626 characters)

Staropramen has a thick, off-white head and a clear, somewhat bubbly, golden appearance, with thin lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, biscuit and bready malt, with a touch of hop zing. Taste is of those elements, with a wonderful and dead-on hop bitterness rounding it out. Mouthfeel is light to medium and prickly, and Staropramen finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, dry, and delicious. Really, this is about as perfect as a beer can get, and I score it world class. This might be the best lager I’ve ever tried. Just fabulous and a must for beer lovers!

O: Overall a decent beer with a solid backbone. Well worth the money. (305 characters)

I picked this up as a part of a mix-a-six at Giant in Linglestown PA, poured chilled into a mug.

The color is deep amber with tranparent clarity and off white cream with tight bead and no lace. The smell is not very impressive, it has a slight skunky hop nose probably from the green glass bottle and it overpowers the mildly bready undertones. The feel is malty with highly carbonated and semi-slick diacetyl texture with dry finish and semi spicy feel.

The Pils has a taste that is mineral and toasted with slight creamy element from yeast and possibly carbonation with subtle yeast dryness after the swallow with some spiciness from the hops in the finish. Overall I was bit underwhelmed as the beer was overwhelmed by the skunkiness it suffers a lot as a result of this and is marginally drinkable as a result. I would pass unless I saw it on tap somewhere. (867 characters)

Pours a pale straw golden color with some darker orange hues that help it not look like piss. Very clear, think American macro only slightly darker. The head is the only reason it scored as well as it did because it's a brilliant with, a couple fingers thick with a lot of different sized bubbles. Really nice retention, with a medium sticky lace when all is said and done.

I'm not a fan of the look, the smell or the style. It's classic American macro with an earthy, dirty Czech hop scent. Again, not a fan of this at all. However, if you really let your nose dig deep, there is a lingering citric note hiding in the depths that makes this tolerable.

Not sure how Czech beer ever became popular, but this matches the style. It's not something I care for, but it is what it is. Being an old school lager, it's almost devoid of taste. If anything, there's a crackery taste.

It's dry and has an earthy, flowery bitterness to it. Complete lack of sweetness, though as it warms it tries. Somewhat smooth.

It's not the worst thing I've ever had, but it's certainly nowhere near the best, even for a Czech beer. Fairly easy to drink if you can get past the smell and lack of flavor. (1,181 characters)

A finger and half of head on a clear, medium straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma is milled grain and a touch metallic.
The taste is lighter with mild lemon bitterness, bit of malt sweetness and finishes with a mild puckering bitter note. Easy to drink.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Not amazing but worth a drink or two. (346 characters)

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a Belgian tulip glass.

A: Pours a copper ale with a thin white head that quickly dissipates into a wispy lace.

S: Skunky funky aroma.

T: Skunky lager that is more tart and bitter than sweet.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: I should have stopped drinking this after a couple of sips – but I hoped it would get better – it didn’t. (381 characters)

This came in a classy and sophisticated green bottle.
The beer itself looks really nice too. It is a deep golden color with a creamy white head.
It is almost the same color as apple juice.

As far as the smell goes, Floral hops and grains come through. There is a slight skunk smell that cannot be ignored.

Sweet, malty back bone with a mild hop bitterness. However, there is a slight skunkyness in the taste that is off putting.

For a lager, this beer is full bodied. Thick, creamy and lightly carbonated. There is also an oily slickness to the mouthfeel.

Overall, this beer would be outstanding if it were not for the skunkyness.
The skunkyness was very slight, but it takes away from the enjoyment of the beer.

I would love to try this on tap. (758 characters)

poured into a pint glass may - 11- 2013 is stamped on it

Appearance - poured a clear golden yellow with 2 fingers of foam. bubbles came up through solution while drinking. good lacing

Aroma- apple pear slight skunkyness ( sulfur) Grassy

taste- crisp sting of carbonation gives way to a grainy corny flavor. then a slight herbal and piney hops at the end. Hoppier than american light lagers. easy drinking.

Mouthfeel- high carbonation dry and champange-y

Overall- I'm a little out of my element, I would imagine this is a descent pilsner. I would enjoy it as such. My BMC frame of reference would tell me that it is better than all of those. Its like a light lager with a better hop character and a better mouthfeel. it is definitely less filling than a lot of things i have been drinking lately. I would in fact have another. i would drink it as a lawnmower beer or i could se myself ordering it in an airport leaving Prague. (934 characters)

Pours a clear, pale orange with some light red at the light. One finger of off-white head lingers for a few seconds and clears off, leaving a thin line of lace around the circumference of the glass. Aroma consists of caramel, lemon, orange and a hint of dry grass, and is quite robust for a lager. There's no skunk-funk to speak of. Very dry and crisp with a splash of lemon on top of some grain. Some orange peel is also noticed. Add to all that a little sweet mixed with a little bitter and easy as Sunday morning all the way to the finish. (542 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured a dark copper color with a good fingers worth of head that settles to a thin layer with no lacing to speak of.

S: Little skunk here... very grassy with a little lemon zest mixed in.

T: Little flat on flavor.. There is skunk here... pretty grassy here with touches of graininess but not much else here.

M: Pretty crisp and well carbonated but pretty flat over all

O: Not very pilsner like to me... A little more Euro lager for my taste. Not bad if you a thirsty. (513 characters)

Best before 5/17/13.

Pours a clear golden color with a foamy bone colored head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and a sweetened corn flake aroma. Taste is much the same with a mild grassy bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that is drinkable but not very exciting. (488 characters)
