A British Pale Ale or Special Bitter, well balanced between malt and aftertaste, with a hint of caramel. Medium amber.

I'm passing through Regina on my way from Vancouver to Ottawa and I'm trying local beers along the way. I picked a bottle of this up at Bushwakkers and, now that I have tasted it, I wish I could have stayed at the bar and had a few pints. It pours an amber colour reminiscent of "Heavy" back home in Scotland. I can't pick up much aroma at all but the taste is smooth, malty heaven. Slightly sweet but not too much and a perfect amount of bitter for a pale ale.

A: copper-bronze with a light tan head, nice ring of retention leaves a little lace.

S: Figs, nectarine, orange rind and a bit of fresh cut grass. Light fruity esters from the yeast (pear, raspberry buds).

T: Quite fruity; slight diacetyl (Fullers yeast?); hint of grain; very British, though the generous hopping is somewhat American (Centennial?). Figs, nectarine, grass, hint of pine, golden raisins, biscuity malt, hint of nuts, good bitterness. It packs a lot of flavour; I suspect this is a little higher than the 4.5% abv on the label.

M: Light to moderate body with a modest carbonation.

D: An extremely easy, pleasant drinker and all around good brew.

This captures the British spirit with a nod to American flavour. The quintessential Canadian Bitter?

Pours with copious head over a deepened amber colour. A translucent and shiny ruby to the light. Not so pale at all! A peculiar aroma, stale malt, full of diacetyl - offputting. An odd flavour profile too. Warm bready, with diacetyl to the max - this brewery (or at very least this bottle) suffers from a tremedous diacetyl problem. Very bad, I can't even see past that. Hard to tell where the nature of this beer lies, suffers from a shadowing overturned butterscotch coating. Laregely off putting. Bad bready aftertast, hits you on the way down. Borderline foul.
Not much lingering, a neutral finish. Drinkability is so-so. I's swear this was past its best before but I know for a fact it's been brought back fresh.
Thanks Harry!

650ml bottle poured in a pint glass (twice).

Hazy, orange-red amber colour. 1/4 inch off white head on the pour recedes to a thin, tight cap. Fine sheets of lace adorn the glass.

Balanced aroma. Both malty and hoppy. Perhaps Cascade hops? Kind of a Pacific NorthWest scent to this.

Roasted malt up front which blends smoothly through the middle to a nice balance with the hops. Hops push to the forefront at the finish. Aftertaste is hoppy bitter and persistent.

Medium-full bodied. Full, round, balanced mouthfeel. Smooth and creamy. It's an interesting contrast: Hop bite vs. smooth mouthfeel.

This is a little different than other American Pale Ales that I've had before. Certainly darker in colour and maltier in flavour. However, the hoppiness doesn't bother me so much because it reminds me of some of the Pale Ales I had from Oregon/Washington on a road trip in May. The flavours certainly stand out alot more, perhaps too much. A little less malt off the start, and a little less hop bite at the end would give it better marks in taste and drinkability. None the less, although it is certainly a bit of a variant on the style, it is still a fine beer.

(EDIT: After this I review it was brought to my attention that this is acutally an English Pale Ale unlike how it is listed here. Disregard remarks about it being different from other American Pale Ales.)

Golden amber with a nice head of white foam and some decent lacing. Hoppy aroma with a nice biscuity bready maltiness that backs it all up. Taste is hoppier than other Canadian pales that I have had and that makes this one interesting. Maltiness is nice as well. mouthfeel is medium bodied and drinkability is good. A nice session quaffer if ever there was one..

650 ml brown bottle, Regina parliament building on the label.
Medium amber / gold in color. Tan foam that forms a nice tight head when poured. Sweet aroma of spice and brown sugar. Sweet malt in the flavor, but almost overpowered but the hoppiness. Leaves a strong bitter finish.
Thanks for sharing Jeff.

A pleasant pale ale. Amber in colour with a good head that lasts a reasonable length of time.

A hint of malt on the nose.

The tast starts off with a good dose of malt and finishes with a hop bitterness.

This is a better than average pale ale, but the hopping has a bit of a rough character. Would be nice to have a bit more floral flavour.
