I went right to the source to drink this ale at its namesake Nine Pound Hammer Saloon, just across the street from the brewery. The trip was worth it. Though the 9 Pound serves it too cold, this ale is one of the best porters going and the local flavor only enhanced my appreciation of it.

9 Pound has a prolific porter profile with elegant and affirmed properties all around. Assertive bittering offsets eager-to-please roasted qualities on an opaque brown ale with a light sandy head. There's also plenty of chocolate malt goodness to go around. You even exhale it on your breath after drinking it awhile. Yet it doesn't scorch or falter.

Put this beer down long enough for your palate's memory to recalibrate and it's suddenly startling to re-experience so much flavor. It's infused with a graceful complexity, a note of vanilla, and wise restraint. All told, it's hard to find a better porter anywhere.

Pours beautiful dark brown into my snifter. Aroma foretells the chocolate. Nice and pleasant.
Taste is malt and chocolate. Trying to place the smooth feel that seemed so familiar and it hit me that it tastes and feels a lot like Guinness Draft but better.
Very smooth aftertaste with absolutely no cloy or bitterness.
A winner.

Appearance - poured with a finger-and-a-half of light mocha colored head, color is a deep coffee brown, very sticky lacing and rings mark the beer's progress down the glass

Smell - coffee comes through strongly with some light chocolate, small touch of hops as well

Taste - coffee and chocolate are coming through prominently, some hop bitterness upfront and coffee-like bitterness on the back end

Mouthfeel - creamy and smooth, full-bodied, coats the inside of the mouth

Drinkability - neither too heavy nor too light, a very drinkable porter

Another "darn tasty beer" from Georgetown Brewing.

Poured into a shaker pint glass. Pours a very dark brown, appearing nearly black in the glass with a one finger off-white head with good retention and light lacing. Nice aroma of toasted malt with light chocolate and coffee. Hints of dark dried fruit and char. Medium bodied. This was somewhat underwhelming cold out the keg, but as it warmed, the flavors were robust and well balanced. Complexity of flavor is not obvious right away because of the good integration and balance. I will be happy to encounter this again. Georgetown is fairly widely distributed on tap in Seattle, and is underrated considering their quality. This was on-tap next to Lucille and I really wanted to drink Lucille again; I ended up drinking this a second time before having a taster of Lucille. Nice.

For an American style porter, I can't think of anything better.

It pours somewhere between a burnt brown and dark black and is thick. It smells almost like chocolate mousse soaked in brandy smothered in baked malt.

Tastes smooth with a wonderful balance of sweetness and bitterness with strong chocolate malt flavors. Taste changes considerably as it warms.

Extremely drinkable but with noticeable complex flavors and a good amount of alcohol. Great beer.

I am a huge fan of Georgetown Brewery and have never disliked one of their beers. I typically don't drink Porters but certainly don't pass up on an opportunity to try one. As usual-

A -This brewski pours a very dark, almost black color, not cloudy at all with a nice 1-2 inch head that lingered nicely. Moderate lacing.

S- Extremely deep roasted, nutty, chocolate malt. Smells very good.

T- Great beer and just how it smells. You can taste the blatant rich chocolate, nutty flavor with a nice subtle hop finish.

M- Light to medium body...more on the lighter side with a very smooth finish

D- This is a great beer. Great flavor and offers enough complexity to certainly give it a try. It's a light porter so I could absolutely foresee sitting down for a session with Georgetown's 9 Pound Porter.

Had this on tap at Pomegranate in Redmond.

This porter has a distinct similarity to every other porter out there. It is not a special beer by a long shot, and does not have a great deal going for it to make it unique from several of the other porters being produced in the pacific northwest.

Although porters aren't my favorite style, this one has to be the bottom of the heap.
