Formerly named Georgetown Porter as a result of a trademark dispute with Magic Hat Brewing Co.

Brewed for our friends at the 9 Pound Hammer here in Georgetown, this is an exceptionally flavorful medium bodied porter. We use tons of Chocolate, Munich, and Roasted Malt, then blend it with Centennial and Northern Brewer hops to create what we'd like to call Roasted Chocolaty Goodness.

9LB Porter pours a very dark brown with a small, long-lasting head. The aroma is filled with roasted malts and black licorice. The flavor is sweet, with roasted cereal flavors, a hint of smoke, and lots of black licorice. Good feel. Overall, a sweeter, full-flavored porter: Lots of black licorice.

Day 11 of the 2023 City Brew Tours 12 Beers of Christmas pack. Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours pitch black with a fluffy light brown head. Smells of chocolate with a hit of coffee and vanilla. Tastes of coffee and chocolate, with some nice vanilla notes. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

I get a little bit of "cat piss" on the nose. I usually get that smell from simcoe hops, popular in WA, so that might be why. Otherwise it has a nice roasty coffee flavor with some subtle chocolate notes mixed it.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 5-18-23 into a tulip glass.

Look- Deep brown, opaque, small visible particulate at margins, creamy medium brown head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Chocolate, roasted barley, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Chocolate, roasted barley, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, highly creamy, moderately bitter, mildly mouth warming.

Overall- Deep brown with small visible particulate at the margins and average head retention and lacing. Bouquet and flavor was medium in strength with a nice chocolate and roasted barley character. Medium body with high creaminess and moderate bitterness. Overall this was a very enjoyable and good example of the Porter style. It was simple in flavor and nose and would have benefited from more complexity, but still well done.

Fine mahogany brown body, dark and nearly opaque; thick head, light tan color, dense and creamy. Light roasted grain smell. Great taste; roasted grain with a charred edginess; subtle cocoa note; moderate bitterness. Medium-heavy body; smooth with a toasty dryness.

A nice porter, nothing fancy, but delivering some nice, robust dark grain goodness to the palate.

Very dark, near black brew, with along-lasting tan foam in the big Stout glass. Inviting aroma of cocoa, roasted grains, and herbal hops. Mouthfilling mellow carbonation. Taste of dark caramel and cereal with a burnt sugar finish. Moderate sweetness to go with the bitter chocolate and hoppy edge. Pleasing bitterness in the aftertaste for balance. This is a rich and tasty dark brew. From the 12 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 11/08/2022.

Very dark pour, typical of other porters. Light head & lacing. Taste is dry, flavor is roasted grain, notes of chocolate and expresso. Not overly flavored, which is nice. Our first dark beer from Georgetown and it's a good, if not exceptional, offering.

Look: Black as night and the pour initiates a beige head to rapidly form a pillow, which holds and deflates by way of the popping of large bubble pockets to leave nice lacing behind
Aroma: Baker’s cocoa, roasted barley, earthy notes, over-warmed brown bread, and wafts of caramel-like sweetness
Taste: Starts off with rich and slightly sweet bready malt and roast which immediately develop depth and followed by some earthiness. Dark chocolate picks up when the bread subsides and it and earthy notes go back and forth before roast rejoins the party for the close
Mouthfeel: Full, smooth, medium-high carbonation, and a smooth and soft finish
Overall: This is delicious stuff. One of the few Georgetown beers that has eluded me for years and was pumped to finally find some as it lived up to my hype. Smooth, rich malt, roast, and chocolate all in play with nice depth and enough earthiness for balance and all in a nice feeling package. I’m digging it and will hopefully keep it in rotation to finish out the winter

Look: Looks very pretty! Pours dark and thick, with a creamy tan head that lasts for a while!

Smell: It's got a bit of a musty smell that I don't really care for. But I can small a bit of chocolate and coffee.

Taste: Meh. Coffee for sure. Unsweetened chocolate. It's just . . . a little bland for my palate. The aftertaste is not overly pleasant either.

Feel: creamy, chocolatey.

Overall: I can't say I like this porter very much. Sorry Georgetown. Normally I love you. But someone gave me five of these for free because they hated it so much (really). I wouldn't give this beer away. It's not that bad! But heck--I wouldn't give ANY beer away. I mean, I'd share . . .

Dark opaque color. Nice foam and lacing. Bold taste of coffee, chocolate, char, slightly nutty. After taste similar to imperial. So many flavors going on. Tastes a lot like Mackeson. Good stuff !!

12 ounce can (12/13/2021). It's a solid dark beer, with a tan head. The smell is mild roast, cocoa, and maybe a little vanilla. The taste is similar. It's not bitter, and not at all sweet. It's a dry light bodied porter, just about right for the style. The body is quite light, almost watery, but not really.

Overall, this is a very good porter. IMHO, it's significantly better than Black Butte, the longstanding king of "shelf" porters in the PNW. I look forward to having more of these cans in my fridge.

12oz can (dated 10/15/21) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a nearly solid black color with about an inch of medium tan head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was solidly malty, as expected, with nicely solid, but not overpowering, roast. Very similar on the tongue, with the roast being a bit stronger. No real hop presence.

The body was fairly typical for the style, medium full, smooth, and had a medium-dry finish. Drinkability was very good, it's an easy sixer to drink through Overall, a really good example of the style. Certainly worth your time.

Dark dark brown, translucent only on the glasses edge. Big billowy big bubbles head, very good retention. Half inch cap of head just keeps linger, moderate lacing.

Big rich chocolate note up front, little roast, slightly chalky dry aroma, some sort of woody smell too.

Taste is big rich chocolate, followed by a roasty finish.

Medium body, lower carbonation gives this a creamy mouthfeel, moderate bitterness.

A really great drinking porter, rich and full but still very drinkable.

A-dark mahogany with a little light shining through, good khaki head
S-mininmal, some roasty nutty notes
T-turns out to be a hoppy porter with a lot of roasted malts, a little chocolate on the aftertaste. Below avg sweet, slightly above average bitter for the style
M-moderate body, below avg carbonation, goes down easy
O-very solid porter
