Took a trip to Florida recently, Destin specifically, and Chan's is THE place to go for beer.

This is a great place for beer, even liquor, wine, and cheese!

The staff is very nice. I didn't need any help so I can't report of their knowledge, but each of the employees were exceptionally pleasant.

I'm from Louisiana, and we don't have access to anything that Florida does so naturally, the selection was out of this world! But differing availabilities aside, the amount of beer they had was substantial. Massive coolers with beer, and a isles of domestic craft, and imports alike.

It's pricey. I stopped at a smaller liquor a ways away and found a few of the things I had purchased at significantly lower prices.

Either way tho, the selection is fantastic and worth it in my opinion.

It is always hard for me to rate on selection in Florida because my state has better distro, but this is a fantastic store and a world class bar. Beautiful, with an easy to read chalkboard that I would say had about 2 dozen taps from memory. I would venture to guess that they get the harder to get releases in town. Picked up some Prairie Bomb while here. They have a great tap list and do crowler fills. Did not get a chance to eat, but the menu looked very good. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

The selection of draft beer is usually the best in Destin. Only 6 taps ,but better than the places in town with 50 taps.

Feb 26,2014: Bell's Hopslam, Dogfish Head Olde School barleywine, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, B. Nektar Zombie Killer mead, Ballast Point Indra Kunidra stout, Hoppin Frog Frosted Frog. Unfortunately it cannot be this good all the time. Beer tastings on Wednesdays from 6 till8 pm.

The staff is friendly and most are beer geeks. Great cheese available to enjoy with beer. The menu is small and the daily specials on the chalkboard are the best choice for food. Good wine list for those with partners who prefer wine.

Check the freshness date!! I was not aware that they typically don't rotate and I got two IPA bombers that were skunked and when checking the label of one of the "Fresh" Hop beers discovered that it was 8 months old. The other thing that bothered me is the bomber selection is displayed on a big rack directly covering a giant window letting massive Florida sunlight into precious beer. Other then that a pretty good selection. Got the last two six packs of CCB madura brown and when I asked an employee if they had any more CCB selection she said they didn't at the time but she could call around a few other stores in the area, I thought that was nice but I didn't have the time so I declined her hospitable offer. Here is a list of the breweries I saw that Wine World carried: Southern Tier, Bear Republic, Evil Twin, Straight To Ale, Hoppin' Frog, Bell's, Oskar Blues, Dogfish Head, Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, Smuttynose, Ballast Point, Sweetwater, Green Flash, Terrapin, Saint Somewhere, Victory, Stillwater, CCB

Best place in destin hands down for beer selection. Randy is the man, gets tons of stuff that nobody else can get. Lots of belgians, good selection of sours if you are into them, plus all the seasonals and regular brews you depend on. Food is fantastic here as well, liked to always grab a bite after the wednesday night beer tasting, mac and cheese was damn good!

Hopefully they will be expanding the draft capabiltiy and putting in some more lines in the future.

This is the place to get a wide selection of craft and import beer in Destin. However, buyer beware - the demand for craft beer varies in Destin and can be seasonal. Know how to decode the timestamps on your favorite brews! I have been burned several times on craft beer that was well over two years old. In January of 2012, they had Anchor Brewing Liberty Ale on the shelf that was brewed in December of 2010.

Aside from that, they typically have an outstanding selection, a knowledgeable and helpful staff, and great food. They also rotate beer on tap. The food is delicious but can get pricey. The beer on tap is usually fresh and nicely varied month to month. They also do a 5 dollar beer tasting every Wednesday.

Once again, this is the place in Destin to pick up craft beer. The only other place that comes close is the Fresh Market, and it's not much competition. Just check those freshness dates before you buy!!!

Great place. I usually go to their outlet here in PCB, which has the best selection here in town. Still, I love to drive over to Destin for the larger selection they offer. The patio and cheese shop add to the laid back atmosphere of the place. They have beer on tap and the best selection in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Wine World Outlet here in PCB is a great place also, with beer on tap and weekly tastings, but the main location in Destin has selections that are not carried here.

moderate beer selection here. They claim 500 beers outside, though I would think that is generous. I wish they had a few more of the local florida distribution only beers (cigar city...even more sweetwater from Atlanta would be nice). Great place to come for liquor and wine for sure...though the prices on some things are cheaper at the Publix right across the way.

The service was alright, but the guy got a bit grouchy when I asked if they had smaller bottles of Kahlua...I only needed a little bit and didn't feel like going for a $15 bottle when I only needed a squirt.

I'd recommend browsing a few places if you're worried about money on this stuff. they have the major beers though, just wish there was a wider selection.

A bit hard to find this spot unless you know where to look but it's worth the effort... Lots to choose from here with offerings from Terrapin, Oskar Blues, The Bruery, Smuttynose, Cigar City. And several others like Bells... I picked up a fresh sixer of Jai Alai and a Coton that I couldn't believe was still on the shelves... This was a quality stop and I was glad I dropped in. Recommended for some quality brews while in the Destin area...If I'm ever in the area again, I will make sure to stop here... They were going to start filling growlers a few days after I left so that will be awesome as well...

This is the only legitimate store that carries any craft beer in Destin. I went there for one thing, Cigar City and all I was able to find was their last six pack of Maduro Brown. They really didn't have anything that I couldn't find in Chicago or Cleveland except for Terrapin and Oskar Blues. The craft beer selection was actually really small. The service was pretty good. The lady at the counter was nice enough to let me know when they might get some more CC. Its a solid store but nothing special as far as craft beer is concerned.

Update: I went back in on their delivery day and was able to snag a fresh six pack of Jai Alai. The beer manager was there too and a really cool and standup guy. We talked craft for awhile and he said he wanted to try some Three Floyd's so I may bring him some when I head back down to Destin in a couple months.

This place is amazing with 500 craft beer selections. It had every feature I want to see in a beer store and it is really a wine store. Thousands of wines. But back to the beer. Lots of hard to find stuff. This has got to be the best in the area. I found Hopslam and that is difficult to get in this area. They also had the nice feature of a huge selection of mix your own six. That is nice when you are wanting to try a bunch of new things without being stuck with a full six pack. I walked out with lots of different beers and didn't spend an arm and leg. The manager, Jeremy, was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He was very jealous that I had tried Rochefort 10.

There were not too many beers he hadn't tried. I stuck around for an hour and he set up a beer tasting. Great place. Wish the stores in my area were more like this. It is also neat that they have a gourmet cheese shop and restuarant in the back.

This is the top craft beer store between Pensacola and Panama City without a doubt. The only other true craft beer store in that region is Chan's off-shoot location (Wine World Outlet) in Fort Walton Beach, but it is not as good as the original.

The beer selection is great, with a wide selection of international beers, mostly British and Belgian. They also have lots of US craft brands, including the best Dogfish Head (otherwise known as the most creative brewers in the country, in my opinion) selection I've seen outside the Mid-Atlantic region. They do themed beer or wine tastings on a regular basis--just ask one of the employees or look for a flier while you're there.

They also have a gourmet deli and restaurant in the store. I don't know much about wine, but the selection looks impressive to me. Finally, they have a great liquor selection including an outstanding variety of single malt Scotches.

The prices for everything are reasonable, and truly outstanding, considering you literally can't get most of this stuff within at least 60 miles of here.

Craft Beer in the Panhandle = Chan's Wine World

The two are synonymous. Period. Where else in the Panhandle can you walk in and jump right into a Belgian Beer tasting with Orval, Duvel, Saison Dupont, a gueze, La Chouffe, Duchesse de Burgeogne, and MORE, along with samples of artisanal cheeses, and a beer manager, Jeremy, who KNOWS HIS STUFF. I came down to the panhandle on vacation with my wife and simply COULD NOT find a "sensible" selection of craft beer.... until... I found Chan's Wine World in Destin. The reason I gave it a 5 on quality, service, and selection is simple. Is it the best available in the area? The answer is yes. The quality of the place is exceptional. It not only is a nice store when you walk in, but it has a full gourmet restaurant IN THE STORE, as well as a FANTASTIC cheese selection! Did I mention that, as far as the Panhandle is concerned, it has a great beer selection? For those of us in states with capped ABV laws, there were a few standards to walk away with, and more. Call ahead before you go and ask for Jeremy. This guy is a BA member and very willing to help you find what you need. 500 craft beers in the panhandle is as good as 1500 anywhere else when every other place in the area only prides itself on liquor liquor liquor.

Thanks to Jeremy for the tasting and the beers. A+. Period.

Hello all, my girlfriend and I stopped by when we were traveling through Destin. Jeremy is a Beer Advocate and I have gotten to know him a bit since our visit.

The Florida Panhandle does not have a real beer culture and people in the area are not really interested in great beer. There are people that are interested in wine, which can give us beer guys a way into the scene. More and more wine stores in the area are starting to add beer sections and starting to import more varieties of beer, thanks to people like Jeremy. He is very knowledgeable and has the go out an get 'um attitude that is needed to help the surrounding area.

Now, to the store. As you walk into the door, you will notice a beer Isle. This is the beer section of the store. They have a large cooler full of most of the selction, but the island is also filled up with nothing but Craft Beer. The variety is the Best of Destin. You will not find another place in town that has the selection of Wine World. All and all they carry about the same as the Wine World in Panama City, but then again, it is what the panhandle has to offer.

If looking for a store to buy beer in Destin, Chan's Wine World is the place to go.

Went by Chan's Friday before my fishing trip Saturday. Picked up 12 Dale's Pale Ales for the fishing trip. Also picked up some Stone VE 090909, Brooklyn BCS, Sweetwater IPA, and Dogfish IBA. I visit this store several times a year and can say that since Buddha has taken over the beer section things were much more organized this time. They also had several Terrapin special releases which I've never seen there before. I am quite excited to see what voodoo magic Buddha can work in the coming months. Keep up the good work!

Went to Chan's while on vacation in June 09 and then again during Labor Day week. Chan's was much, much better in September. Must be a direct result of having the Beer Buddha (Jeremy) as the new beer guy. The overall selection and freshness of the product were much improved. I called a head and Jeremy had me the freshest case of Sweetwater IPA available. By far, the best selection in town. A great selection of Germans and Belgians, Stone, Bells, Oskar Blues, Brooklyn, Sweetwater, Smuttynose, Weyerbacher, etc. Definately my go to place in Destin.

I have been coming to Chan's since I moved here 4 years ago. Being from ATL, I tried all of the other local beer stores when I first moved here to see who had the best selection. Hands down, Chan's blows the others out of the state. The selection is remarkable, and the beer dude, Jeremy knows his stuff and doesn't put any beer on the shelves that isn't of the best quality and freshness. I come a couple of times a week just to see what new beer he's stocked, and I'm never disappointed. If you ever come to Destin and wonder why you can't find any good craft and artisanal beer anywhere, it's because you haven't been to Chan's.

Value is reasonable to cheap depending on product.
i love PBR, Yuengling, Dixie and the like, but I had not been able to find Schlitz since I heard they went back to an old recipe. Well guess what Jeremy, Buddha, has graced his dear cooler with, Schlitz! Jeremy is the third "Beer Guy" I have know to work at Chan's and I must say he is doing a stellar job. The American craft beer selection has never been better. There are also a number of new imports to chose from. Now if I can just talk him out of one of those Captain Pabst cutouts.

Also a great selection of wine, obviously, and liquors for those that are with you, but not into beer.

I usually visit Chan's a few times a month. As far as the Florida panhandle goes this place easily has the best selection. Recently they hired a new beer guy, Jeremy (Beerbuddha on BA). He has pretty much overhauled the entire beer section.

As far as selection goes I have yet to be disappointed. They have plenty of American craft brews from Bells, Brooklyn Brewery, DFH, Oskar Blues, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Stone etc.. As well as some of the more local breweries such as Atlanta Brewing Co, Saint Somewhere, and Terrapin.

I'm not that into the European beers but they do seem to have a good selection there as well. A few that I noticed were Chimay, Ommegang, St. Bernardus. They also had HaandBryggeriet as well as some Polish and German beers.

Overall, visiting Chan's is a must when you are in the area. Jeremy is very knowledgeable about beer and loves to talk about it and all things related.

I stopped in while on vacation after finding out about Chan's from reading about it on Beer Advocate. The beer is well laid out with some of the beer in a walk-in cooler and the rest located on nearby shelves. They had a pretty good selection of beer with such craft breweries as DFH, Sierra Nevada, Bell's, Weyerbacher, Terrapin, Oskar Blues, Brooklyn, Allagash, and Unibroue. I'm not as big on European imports, but they had several different Belgians to chose from and a lot of German and Polish beers as well. They didn't seem to keep a large inventory of the different beers. I went in on a Monday to try and find some Oskar Blues, but they were already sold out. I went back in on Friday and they had a few in stock then.

I will say that it is the only place to get really good beer in the Destin area, but their prices are a just a little high. The Wynn Dixie across from where I was staying had Bell's Two-Hearted Ale $1.00 cheaper a six pack, but I still bought it from Chan's just to support their business.

I briefly spoke with the beer guy, Jim. He was very helpful and really knew his stuff.

I've been by Chan's 3 times in the last month or so and it is always an adventure. At this stage in my beer drinking life I'm just trying everything I can get my hands on so I always pick up some singles. They do have plenty to choose from at Chan's. This makes it difficult for me as I always take forever to pick something out. ;-)

All the favorites are there: Sierra Nevada, Terrapin, Dogfish, The Shipyard, Bell's, etc. with a variety of styles to meet the tastes of any beer drinker. It does feel weird when someone walks in to buy Heineken or Bud Light when they could go across to the Shell station and get the same thing.

Jim loves to talk about beer so ask him questions (if you want to hear him talk). I will go back when I can afford it.

Jim, the beer guy is the guy to ask for at this place. I went to Destin on vacation in the early summer. Upon looking at the selection at the other stores in the area, my hopes for a decent beer selection in Destin were growing thin. Luckily, there was this place. I brought home some bells, ten fidy, and a lot of good belgians. If you're in Destin, this is the place to go. Jim was cool enough to order Bell's expedition and java stout just because I wanted some. He also hooked me up with a complimentary Dogfish Head glass. Very cool guy.

Went last week while at the beach....

Always worth a trip, centrally located just off the mid Bay bridge. No Unibroue Anniversary but they had all other Unibroue. The "beer guy" said his distributor couldn't get the 17. Oh well... Selection was as good as you're ever gonna find at the beach. Lots of DFH, Oskar Blues (they were out of Dale's however), Rogue, Bell's, Allagash and Ommegang.

Price Sample:
DFH 60 minute: $11.99 6 pack
Bell's Expedition: $17.99 6 pack
Sierra Nevada Souther Hemisphere: $4.99 24 oz
750 ml 3 Philosophers and Dubbel: $7.99 each
Chimay Blue: $4.49 each
Oskar Blues Gordon: $11.99 4 pack

2011 update:
They now serve draft-to-go in quart and gallon plastic jugs. Last week, he had about 6 different beers pouring at various prices. Worth the mention if you're in there...

i was able to visit this place for the first time over the weekend. i met jim, the beer guy, and he couldn't have been nicer. the cheese lady was nice as well, but there was another guy who "helped" me the first day that was HORRIBLE.

if you go here, ask for jim.

i was able to hook up some great divides, dogfish head, bells, oskar blues, etc... also had a bunch of imported beers as well, but i didn't dabble in that section much as i was overwhealmed with the domestic stuff.

visit this place if you can.

I stopped by while in the area for a Batchelor Party this past weekend. There are two entrances, I can remember which one we walked through, but the beer selection was right by which ever door I chose, and the walk-in cooler was right to the left.

While I was mainly there for some American hoppy pale ale/IPA's, I did try to get a good look at the rest of their selection- there's a decent selection of Belgians and Germans, and some English selections as well. I don't remember seeing anything foreign that I hadn't seem before in Atlanta or Pensacola, though, except I don't know if I'd ever seen Witterke (sp?) in those places before.

American microbreweries are pretty well represented- there were selections from some of the more "local" breweries- Sweetwater, St. Somewhere, Dixie, Abita, maybe Terrapin,(if so, I didn't see any of their "Monster Series") as well plenty of other selections from all over the US- Boulder, Oskar Blues (inc. Ten Fiddy), Bells, Brooklyn, Allagash, Rogue (w/ plenty of bombers), Great Divide, Left Hand, and many more.

Their "beer person" wasn't there, unfortunately, but the staff that was there was helpful in locating things. As elsewhere in FL, beer tends to be more expensive than in GA (eg. $9.50 for a 6er of Dale's Pale Ale), but nothing seemed TOO outrageously priced.

One thing that concerned me a little- the beer selection seems to be pretty close to sunlight- the Two Hearted Ale I bought (along with the rest of Bell's products they had) was actually right by the windows, but all was boxed when I bought it (definitively wouldn't have bought it otherwise).

I'd certainly recommend stopping here to any BAer who finds themselves in the Destin area. I should note that there's a "Chan's Wine World Outlet" down the road from this location about 20 minutes in Sandestin. I didn't get a change to visit there, but I do recall hearing from an employee that they didn't carry Bell's Two Hearted- not sure about other products listed above.
