As soon as I cracked open the bottle, I realized that there was nothing BOCK about this beer at all. Instant waft of super skunkiness, weird since it was a brown bottle. Pours a super yellow, no bock color whatsoever. Tastes super skunky, watery, not much true beer taste here. Stay away from it, it's trash. (347 characters)

This is a curiously misleading beer, as it doesn't seem anything like a bock, nor is it anywhere close to being super. That out of the way, it came in a light brown 355 ml bottle, part of a 6 pack, best before date listed on the side of the front label as 2005.10.

Pours out a very clear and pale straw colour, a small fizzle of head with little retention. Grainy malt on the nose surrounded by a plethora of adjuncts and preservatives, there is an industrial-like aroma around the cider and sour corn essence. The flavour is not that user friendly either, the two modes of operation in the taste of this beer are bitter and sour, with a husky grainy presence on the aftertaste. In fact I'm halfway down the glass, and not only do I think I've had enough of this stuff, but I'm beginning to feel I've had too much of it already. It's only getting worse it seems. The mouthfeel is light and watery and not too bad until the caustic overzealously carbonated finish. Or is that abrasive texture from the additives? I plan on avoiding this stuff in the future, and am not sure what to do with the rest of the bottles I bought. I'm super, thanks for asking--this beer however is not. (1,181 characters)

Bottle: Poured a yellow color lager with medium head and no retention. Aroma is crisp but with some easily detectable skunk aspect to it. Taste is your average macro lager plus the skunk feels that is probably due to transport or storage. I guess this is just another crap lager… more super crap then super bock! (313 characters)

Not much flavour in this one, and kind of sweetish (probably from the slightly higher alcohol level), really boring beer and at times a bit artificial in its taste. (164 characters)

Picked this up so I could tick off Portugal on the list of nations of beers tried. Mistake.

A - Thin coat of flimsy weak bubbles, retreats instantly to a ring. Clear body demonstrates 20 seconds of effervesence before its as flat and still as can be.

S - Corn, metallic stinky skunkiness, slight yeast.

T - Typical adjunct lager flavours of corn syrup and lemon juice.

M - High carbonation, light fizzy body.

O - Shite. (424 characters)

Appearance - 2.5
Poured a loose white finger of head that all-but disappeared in seconds. Colour is a clear, pale gold.

Smell - 2.0
Skunky smell upon opening that faded quickly. Aroma is faint, but pretty generic macro lager. Grains and husk with a little hop profile.

Taste - 1.5
Not very nice. Not sure where the 'bock' comes from, this tastes like a macro lager to me. Starts with almost no flavour, moves onto a dry, stale husk taste, finishes dry, bitter and sour with a pronounced alcohol.

Mouthfeel - 2.5
Light to moderate wight in the mouth, moderate carbonation that feels somewhat coarse.

Drinkability - 1.5
The 5.6% alcohol means this is not even easy to drink. I didn't enjoy it and was tempted to introduce it to the sink.

OVERALL - 1.9
I was surprised by how cheap this beer is, but once I tasted it, it all made sense. A sub-par macro lager of near bock strength. I will not try it again, however cheap. (923 characters)

Pours a deep yellow with minimal head. Smell is off putting and almost literally smells like crap. I can't put my finger on it but it just does not smell good. Tastes like a mixture of corn and barley together. If you like corn, then you will like this beer. Not a lot of body. The taste finishes strongly with the corn/barley. I did not enjoy this one at all. (360 characters)

appearance - Light straw color, nice head and lace on the glass.

smell - Bit skunked smell. Typical rice smell on a macro too.

taste - Nothing more of less then a typical macro beer, but with less flavor, and some bitterness.

mouthfeel - Light and carbonated.

drinkability - This is not bock, misleading. Should of been called Super Macro. Only reason I picked up a single of this is because it was from Portugal. I feel sorry for the people in Portugal drinking this beer right now. I only drank about 1/4 of it and dumped the rest. Not even a beer to me.Needs more work on. (589 characters)

It's been a while since I've done a review. I find it can sometimes be hard to describe in depth the various intricacies and unique characteristics of a good craft beer. Crappy imported lager on the other hand is all too easy. Thus we have Super Bock. Of course it's not a true bock, and it's definitely not super.

When I met some friends the other night at a b.y.o.b. restaurant, they asked for beer suggestions. I recommended picking up a bock. To my dismay Super Bock is what ended up on the table. It did a fair enough job of washing down the Mexican food, but was overall unremarkable.

The tight carbonation of this beer does little to disguise the corny flavor and lack of real character. Very bland. It reminds me of some of the lesser quality Mexican lagers that I've had. It is a bit more flavorful than your BMC brews and it is session-able (5.2% abv listed on the label) but for the price you can do better. (921 characters)

Perfectly clear, pale straw yellow colour. Thin, bright white head thinned to nearly nothing in less than a minute, although there were signs that it wanted to stick to the sides of the glass before it subsided. Aroma consisted of corn (DMS) sweetness, light grainy malt, and a very light mix of lemon and saaz hops.

The flavour was not quite as enjoyable. Very sharp, harsh hop bitterness to start and finishes on the sour side. Hop bitterness lingered on the palate long after the finish, and not in a good way. Sweetness was evident, as was a light grape character. Alcohol was also definitely present in the taste. The body was on the thin side without being watery. Moderate carbonation aided the texture, but there was still a strong grainy astringency present.

Overall, this is a poor beer for the style. No real balance (at least to my palate) and harsh, but not flavourful, hops detracted from the enjoyment. And putting the word "Bock" in the name is just plain silly. Poured from a 355 mL brown bottle with best before date clearly printed on the front label. (1,076 characters)

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget). Pale golden colour with fluffy white head that doesn’t last very long, some lacing. Grassy sweet aroma with notes of maize/corn and molasses, hints of vomit. Bland flavour, typical industrial adjunct lager, some maize sweetness, low bitterness. I think even Sagres tasted fresher than this one. Not a beer I’ll buy again. If I go to Portugal I’ll probably stick to vinho verde. (456 characters)

To begin with, it is not a bock, despite the misleading name. In truth it is an american macro lager.

Appearance: golden color. White head with moderate size and good retention. Very clear.
Taste: kind of bitter
Mouthfeel: drying sensation. Moderate carbonation, low-strength and light body.
Finish: bitter and persistent aftertaste.

Overall: fresh adjunct lager. The flavor is not very pleasant, and it gets worst because of the lingering aftertaste. There are betters beers in Portugal. I don't think I gonna give this one another chance. (549 characters)

As it pours from the bottle a cloudless gold color with a minute head that is frothy in texture and an off white color, what lace there is patchy and thin. Nose is malt, clean and crisp with an exceptionally lean top, the finish is bitingly acidic, the hops present, dry and totally unappetizing. I’m not sure what this beer really is, but one thing it won’t be is in my cart. (378 characters)

Oof. This beer is EVERYwhere in Portugal. It's fairly drinkable, but in the same way that water is drinkable. It looks good enough, golden, very clear, with a nice white head that dissipates at a medium pace. Beyond that, however, I don't have much good to say about it. I barely noticed the smell, and the taste was pretty much the same. Mild malts with almost no hops present. It was carbonated well, though, and left my mouth with a clean, crisp feeling. If it wasn't for the fact that this beer was everywhere and relatively cheap, I probably wouldn't have drank much of it at all. (585 characters)

Super Bock....in a bottle....at Aldea in NYC.

Appearance-poured out of the bottle into the pint glass. Pale gold straw color, residual brown streaks, medium sized head that leaves quickly.

Smell-grainy straw, notes of light citrus, alcohol and grass, fairly clean.

Taste/Mouthfeel-light mouthfeel, fairly clean, smooth, grainy upfront, light fruit, alcohol mix, one last touch of grass on the way down, finishes clean.

Drinkability-no issues but nothing redeeming.

Overall-not at all memorable, too light and clean, no discernable highlights of flavor, I guess the best I can say was it wasn't awful, but that's not good enough. (634 characters)

Half finger of head on a clear, pale straw colored body.
I can barely stand the aroma. It's a mixture of dirty barnyard and grain.
The taste isn't as offensive, it just tastes like water with the slight bit of bitterness.
Fizzy texture, moderate carbonation and light body.
It's one of the less enjoyable beers I've had. The smell is a real put-off. (350 characters)

11.2 oz. bottle poured into Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass.

A: Poured a very pale straw yellow with about a finger and a half of soapy white head that settles to a spotty layer with little to no lacing to speak of.

S: Little skunky.... Some sweet malt and corn. Not very impressive.

T: Lots of sweet corn here.. with a touch of hops. Very Euro big name Euro Lager.

M: Very light-bodied, not very crisp and a little heavy on the carbonation.

D: Not the worst I've had just very plain big brewer Euro lager... Nothing very interesting or good. (544 characters)

330ml bottle poured into pint glass 6/10/11

A clear straw yellow with a few particles being moved around by loads of bubbles that feed a long lasting thumbs width of foam that leaves only a random patch of lace

S skunky corn with some sour lemon

T some skunky sweet malt with some grassy hops but unfortunately it mimics the smell

M thin and watery but well carbonated but a nasty aftertaste

O not feeling this one all that much, dark bottle but still skunked? perhaps just a lousy brew

15$ a 6er? you gotta be joking. don't bother unless you like waaayyy overspending, just buy a cheap macro its pretty much the same thing. from the name I was expecting a Bock not a shitty lager (690 characters)

Light amber to straw colour with a large, foamy white head on top that has good retention and looks quite thick. There is some lacing and lots of bubbles, a typical lager look albeit with a good head on it.

Light smelling with lots of cheap adjuncts, corn and some bread. There is some cereal and a watery citrus aroma but the smell is a pretty poor one.

Cereal, bread, corn and very light hops along with other basic adjuncts and a hint of citrus although none of these flavours are particularly strong or pleasant. This was not a good beer at all though and there is some skunky flavours towards the end.

Light with medium carbonation and a some touches of grain coming through on top of what for the most a smooth beer. There is some sweetness in there too and it is pretty light on bitterness levels.

This one was an awful beer, I honestly can't think of anything that I particularly enjoyed about it and it was a real struggle to finish with it becoming hard to drink after only a couple of sips and it tasted quite skunky at parts. (1,041 characters)

I can't be too harsh on this, i.e., I can't really hold this to the same standards that I would a micro, seeing as how this might be like the Miller Lite of Portugal, who knows. I will review it as a comparison to Bud or Miller.

A - Pale yellow, no head.

S - Smelled like the Anheuser Busch brewery. Where the vats are. Strong barley smell and not much more

T - Like the smell, barley with the same adjunct back taste that it's American counterparts own, but a touch more flavorful. Getting through it was a chore.

M - Medium to high carbonation, dry finish.

D - not really unless I was actually at a Portuguese bar and they didn't have much else.

I purchased this beer to because it had a squawker next to it saying "new" and it was relatively cheap, like $1.49, which should have served as a warning of sorts that it wasn't going to be the best thing I've had. (868 characters)

330ml bottle. Lager glass. Straw color, crystal clear appearance. White & rocky foam shows correct retention. Yeasty, grainy, sweet & sulfur aromas. Cloying & flat upfront. Light but bothering body. Moderate carbonation. Watery texture. Grainy flavors & slight metal hues. Dry bitter finish. Harsh & unbalanced. (311 characters)

11.2 oz bottle from Portuguese restaurant. Pours golden with a thin, long-lived white head and soda like carbonation. Aroma is of grassy hops, bready malt and sweet corn. Body is light and smooth. Some light hops and grain combine on the palate. Regular macro crap, but at least inoffensive. (291 characters)

Pours gold with a large, fading head.
Nose shows hay, skunky, grassy hops and unexpected caramel.
Same story with flavours: hay, grass and some redeeming soft sweet malt, followed by a mild bitterness. Thankfully not too sweet.
Carbonation is too high. (252 characters)

On tap, poured into a pint glass. The aroma has a bit of a mineral hint to it as well as corn bread, and near the end, a bit of old, wet sponge comes forth before settling on primarily crusty bread. The beer is a sparkling clear, and effervescent straw color with a moderate, soap white head that has okay retention and good lace. The beer is a medium light sweet with a medium bitter finish. It's thin, light and crisp with a zippy carbonation and a light body. The flavor is primarily corn and bread, with a hint of butter, and some caramel, that finishes with a crispness and a bitter lemon rind and bread crust. There's a clove touch that adds a light dryness to the finish and the aftertaste is lightly astringent, a bit bitter, and has a bit of a burnt flavor. (766 characters)

From the 1`2. fl. oz. bottle marked: 07.2011.05:22-L2620901. Sampled on November 21, 2010. The pour is almost an olive-yellow tone with virtually no head. It was from a brown bottle but the aroma was clearly skunked. Behind that was a little corn and grass. The taste is a step up with a dash of malts and hops but overall this tasted a lot like an American macro lager instead. (377 characters)
