250 ml bottle, pouring in a pilsner glass. 5.0% ABV in this version exported to Brazil, "Super Bock Cerveja Lager" (not 5.6% as in description). Yellow to golden liquid, clear and with visible carbonation. Dense foam with minimal lacing. Faint aroma of sweet malts and some distant fruitiness. It's the same on mouth. Light to watery body, very refreshing and neither carbonation nor sweetness are unbalanced in this beer. Not expensive and I would surely have it again.

Bright straw color with a good amount of activity. Slightly frothy white 3 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with faint lacing. Flavors of skunk, sweet grains, corn, lemon, noble hops. Lots of sugars with a disgusting bitter lemony feel. Weak light body with prickly carbonation. Light finish, lingering roasted corn, skunk, and grassy. Not pleasant to drink at all, low freshness, cheap quality. Watery flavors with a harsh bitterness that feels like puke. Overall very bad quality craft.

From the bottle, it pours golden with a moderate white head, quickly dissipating to a thin layer. Grain in the nose, followed by the same in the mouth. Thirst quencher for a hot day at the beach!

A beer to enjoy on a beach in Algarve on a hot summer day I guess. Pretty refreshing and worth trying, though even if cheap it wouldn't become a regular. An okay beer.

thanks Sten for bringing this back and sharing.
Overall a pretty standard light Euro lager. Yeasty aroma (of the Euro kind) with hints of grain. Brilliantly clear and classic white top. Hits of sulfur at first.
Light and bright and crisp. Malt is both grainy and also lays on the tongue. Some light hoppy character. Rather dry finish with extending soft bitterness.
Good thirst quencher.

The beer pours out into a Duvel glass a bright clear yellow color with a 3/4" white head that recedes slowly but visibly, leaving some lacing on the sides of the glass. Soon there is a thin layer of foam with a bit of a thicker region toward the center over the nucleation point. The carbonation is moderate. Sipping leaves some small patches of lacing along with some skinny legs of lacing.

The aromas include a touch of the sulfur that folks sometimes mistake for skunking. There are sweet grains present and a touch of grassiness.

The flavors include a light sweetness from malts and other grains. There is a touch of sulfur in the mix and just a light bit of grassy bitterness in the back of the palate.

The mouthfeel is on the light side of medium bodied and lightly crisp from gentle but persistent carbonation. The finish begins in the sweetness from the grains as it begins to recede, introducing the touch of sulfur and just that light bit of bitterness. It eventually becomes lightly dry so that the sweetness from the next sip is new rather than cumulative and cloying.

Overall this seems a better than average AAL in that it is sweet and grainy without much showing in the way of hops, but there is a bit of dryness. While I don't intend to, I could see having a couple of these on a hot summer day or while grilling in the back yard. Not sure why it has Bock in the name since it clearly is not what German brewers would count as a Bock.

Clear golden beer wih a white head that quickly disapears. Medium carbonation. Taste likes malts, floral, sweet and some bitter hops. Aftertaste quickly disapears. Nice on a hot day, easy to drink.

On tap, poured into a pint glass. The aroma has a bit of a mineral hint to it as well as corn bread, and near the end, a bit of old, wet sponge comes forth before settling on primarily crusty bread. The beer is a sparkling clear, and effervescent straw color with a moderate, soap white head that has okay retention and good lace. The beer is a medium light sweet with a medium bitter finish. It's thin, light and crisp with a zippy carbonation and a light body. The flavor is primarily corn and bread, with a hint of butter, and some caramel, that finishes with a crispness and a bitter lemon rind and bread crust. There's a clove touch that adds a light dryness to the finish and the aftertaste is lightly astringent, a bit bitter, and has a bit of a burnt flavor.

People are way too harsh on this beer. This is the national beer of Portugal! This is way better than the macro lagers here in the U.S., and tastes like a combination of Amstel Light and Heineken. Perfect for being outside on a hot day, and being above 5% is a plus too.

(bottle date: 05 2015)

L: crystal-clear, light piss-yellow/gold... thin pad of foam lingers for longer than expected

S: smells like a malt liquor... moderate toasted grain husk note... glove leather?... fairly weak intensity

T: toasty, darker grain flavor carries over from the aromas... actually, it kind of tastes like DME... sort of an oxidized apple skin/flesh note in the aftertaste... touch of metal

F: fairly light and slick, clean on the palate... moderate bite from the carbonation... quite dry... somewhat watery in the finish

O: not awful for what it is, but I wouldn't have one again - I'd rather try whatever lighter, pilsner-style offering they may have... just something off about this beer

Review: Can of SuperBock Pale Lager 5.2%ABV

SuperBock, the football special. I can see why it is popular on the terraces, as it looks damn good, is relatively strong and goes down well. Its also quite cheap, which always appeals. Its a player alright.

This beer pours a crystal clear golden colour with a huge white head on top, which was very frothy. It is quick to settle, with little lacing.

The aroma is faint and gentle, some grains, malts and some light hints of grassy hops. Not a bad taste, a mildly sweet refreshing lager that hits the throat lovely and there is a nice bitter and sour aftertaste that lingers for a short while. It’s a very easy beer to drink.

Bottle from colonial spirits
Light golden color with a smallish frothy white head that is fed with a decent stream of carb bubbles. Aromas of bready pilsner malt and a hint of floral hops. The flavor is bready malt with a light sugary sweetness. Slight mineral and a faint gritty mouthfeel. Not horrible.

So I'm a beer guy and went to Portugal and Spain. Was on a structured trip, so didn't get to get to anywhere with very good beer. But I got to sample the BMC of their countries . . .

I only had a little bit of this, but I liked it better than the Sagres. My sister said the exact opposite, so it is a personal preference thing.

Aroma (3.5): Smells decent enough for the style.
Appearance (4): Nice golden color. Just like a lager should be.
Taste (3.5): Not much to speak of, but you get a little malt and some hop taste. Nothing too much, but it is what is probably should be.
Palate (3.5): No real complaints, nothing to write home about either.

Appearance: Golden and watery with a small, white head which disappears fairly quickly.
Aroma: No hops, bread and slight alcoholic smell.
Taste: Fresh, light, crisp and grainy. Mild cereal taste which lingers after swallowing. Not too interesting as most commercial lagers usually are.
Overall: Very refreshing on a hot summer day, light bodied beer with a crisp flavour. One of my favourite lagers.

Popping the top yields a crispy yet adjunct waft. On the pour this brew is pale straw colour with a nonexistent head. On the taste there is good mouthfeel, balanced with adjunct malts and slight bitter hoppiness with a fading similar aftertaste. Refreshing but not overly flavorful.

Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines (style 1B). Bottle 25cl. AROMA: sweet grainy aroma and medium-low hop aroma. APPEARANCE: very clear golden straw color with average persistance white head. TASTE: medium-low grainy flavour with no hop flavour and medium-low bitterness. no fruitiness and no diacetyl. Balance towards malty and sweet aftertaste. PALATE: light body (maybe from high dosage of adjuncts - corn and rice). medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a light, refreshing average bulk lager.

Golden yellow color with a thin head with short retention.
Light adjunct lager aroma with notes of corn syrup.
Flavor with mild notes of herbal hops, corn, some lemon and grains. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Light body with good carbonation.
Average easy to drink Adjunct Lager, with no huge flaws including body that is thin, but not watery.

Pours a deep yellow with minimal head. Smell is off putting and almost literally smells like crap. I can't put my finger on it but it just does not smell good. Tastes like a mixture of corn and barley together. If you like corn, then you will like this beer. Not a lot of body. The taste finishes strongly with the corn/barley. I did not enjoy this one at all.

Color- light gold.

Medium head quickly settling.

Aroma- gentle sweet sorghum lager.

Taste- A mildly sweet refreshing lager, clean and simple throughout with a hint honey. A great lawn mowing brew that is better than the mass produced domestic giants' offerings for a lighter (not lite) lager. My rating my seem high, but I rate within the context of a

Poured from 330 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted on 9/28/2013.

A- Ok at best. Opens like a North American beer, pours like a North American beer

S- Just like a North American beer

T- Like a mass produced North American beer

M- Same as above

O- Not so good. Just like a run of the mill North American beer like Bud or Millar

330ml bottle. Lager glass. Straw color, crystal clear appearance. White & rocky foam shows correct retention. Yeasty, grainy, sweet & sulfur aromas. Cloying & flat upfront. Light but bothering body. Moderate carbonation. Watery texture. Grainy flavors & slight metal hues. Dry bitter finish. Harsh & unbalanced.

330 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Advertised as 5.2% ABV.

Appearance - Clear golden colour with just over a finger of white head. This dissipates quickly leaving some soapy head on top. While not bubbly there are quite a few bubbles present.

Smell - Slight creamed corn aroma, also a grassy bite similar to a good pilsner. Not much else, but nothing off putting either.

Taste - Watery with very little flavour. Slight grainy taste but not much else. Again nothing off putting.

Mouthfeel - Watery, medium carbonation. Otherwise not much to comment on.

Overall - for the style this actually isn't bad. Would drink again if I was limited to adjunct lagers.

Wait a minute... this isn't a bock? Aw man. Giving it a go anyway haha.

Poured from the 12oz can into a pint glass.

A: Typical pale yellow with a fizzy white head that gos down pretty quickly.

S: Very faint with some grain in there. Not much to say.

T: Very mild with plenty of grain in there. Not too bad and pretty smooth. Nothing really to note. Pretty beery and straightforward. Refreshing.

Overall, not too much to say. I bought it expecting a bock, and what I got was an easy drinking light lager. Not bad for what it is, but won't pick up again.

A: Pale colour but on the darker side of euro lagers, clear, minimal head, no lacing.

S: Malt, minimal hop content, fairly pleasant for Euro Pale Lager, hint of yeast.

T: Sweet, very malt forward, some fruity notes.

M: Light body, initially well carbonated but faded along with the crispness.

O: For what it is it’s pretty good, no noticeable ajunct content.

Served in a bottle at Peculier Pub in New York, NY

A: Pours a crystal clear pale yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some faint hints of light golden yellow highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall fluffy white head that quickly reduces to a very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of sweet adjunct malts are present with corn and grains standing out.

T: Moderate flavors of sweet malts with a lot of grain and corn adjuncts. No hop flavors or bitterness are perceptible.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly smooth.

O: A very offering for the style - not offensive but probably not interesting (or good) enough to warrant trying again.
