A rare Portuguese tick. Woo! With a name like "Super Bock", I am going to review it as one.

Pouring a fizzy yellow with a dense white head that falls off leaving nothing, this isn't particularly impressive to look at. The nose isn't all that better either. Plenty of cereal with grain, honey, sugar and a distinctive non-typical grain character, this almost smells like it's brewed with some sorghum. No hops and definitely no bock character to speak of, this is in some ways like a light malt liquor. The palate opens with a grainy sweetness, very cereal-like with honey, sugar, simple malt and again, that mildly spicy malt character that's either sorghum or millet-like. Sweet on the finish with no hops, this beer is moderately carbonated and is medium-light on the body. Ultimately, a disappointment.

A: Pours a light straw color with a good finger of white head.

S: Very light malt and hops.

T: Very light malt and hops. I would like to say more, but not to complex.

M: Light body with good carbonation.

O: This has slightly more flavor than many others in this stlye.

Went out for Portuguese food last night and asked for the appropriate beer...nothing special here, but also nothing bad. Poured as a lager should. Had a slightly sweet odor, bready and fairly clean. Taste was decent and it went well with the braised veal I had for my meal. It drank easy. For the cultural component, it was worth it.

330ml Bottle

Appearance - Clear gold/yellow colour with an above average size fizzy/frothy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is a fair amount of lacing on the sides of the glass. The head lasted for around 4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - breads/grains, a grassiness, hops, corn

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste breads/grains mixed with a little bit of hops and a slight grassiness. There is also a bit of a corn syrup flavour. One of the nice things about this adjunct lager is that there are no metallic flavours which I've been encountering in most of its competitors. It finishes with a slight bitter bready/grainy aftertaste.

Overall - All in all, not a bad beer. I wouldn't buy it again but I drank a few bottles of it without any issues.

Serving type- Light brown bottle

Appearance- Light brown bottle with "Super Bock" 5.6% ABV on the bottle

Smell- Corny, but it smelled like I would enjoy it!!

Taste- Exceptional for a stronger lager. Had more of a bite rather than a watery taste, absolutely excellent, I really enjoyed it at dinner.

Mouthfeel- Similar to Peroni's beer feel

Overall- If you're in a portuguese neighborhood try this stuff, it's excellent for a stronger lager. It has that great "bite" taste rather than water, you will not be disappointed with this if you're just looking to have a fun time, trust me on this. Thank you to my Portuguese friends!!

A - super clear body is golden yellow, nice little white head.Carbonation quite apparant.

S - mild nose is grainy and typical lager yeasty.

T - slightly fruity up front but quickly cleans up with some nice grainyness and vague herbal hops.

M/D - medium body. Easy to drink, quite enjoyable.

It's been a while since I've done a review. I find it can sometimes be hard to describe in depth the various intricacies and unique characteristics of a good craft beer. Crappy imported lager on the other hand is all too easy. Thus we have Super Bock. Of course it's not a true bock, and it's definitely not super.

When I met some friends the other night at a b.y.o.b. restaurant, they asked for beer suggestions. I recommended picking up a bock. To my dismay Super Bock is what ended up on the table. It did a fair enough job of washing down the Mexican food, but was overall unremarkable.

The tight carbonation of this beer does little to disguise the corny flavor and lack of real character. Very bland. It reminds me of some of the lesser quality Mexican lagers that I've had. It is a bit more flavorful than your BMC brews and it is session-able (5.2% abv listed on the label) but for the price you can do better.

Put this one in the "read the label better" category. I was looking for some Bock beers but short on time when I grabbed this to go with my other selections. I wasn't after a lager.

Pours a bright, shiny golden yellow. A nice white head, 1/2" high develops with decent retention. Good lace.
Smell is well balanced with notes of hops, citrus, grapes and malt. Wet cardboard is present, too.
Taste is less balanced. Hops first with some grape followed with fainter malt and just a hint of citrus.
Smoother than expected. A body slightly more than medium. Carbonation is a bit muted but more than light. Altogether, a rather decent lager, not your more typical one horse show of hops alone.

Pours a nice straw yellow with a fizzy white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is very muted, but it is slightly skunky and musty with a hint of noble hops. The flavor is similar. It tastes like a Euro Pale Lager, but not as strong. Flavors consist of grainy malts and Noble hops. The mouthfeel is crisp and carbonated. The drinkability is rather high as it is pretty smooth. Overall, I enjoyed this beer and would love to drink it again if I ever go to Portugal. I prefer this over other Euro Pale Lagers and Pilsners.

Pours into a golden yellow color with very little head with hardly any retention, sparse lacing and high carbonation. The smell is of old corn, some lemon, some tobacco, some musty old wood. The taste is of corn, some faint hint of citrus, little bit of malt, not much going for it in flavor. I'm not sure how this is a "bock" when the taste reminds me of Budweiser. The mouthfeel is a light watered down beer that leaves the mouth as quick as water when drinking it which makes this a very drinkable beer. I never heard of a "Super Bock" until I got this beer, and now I know that everyone unless you want to get "super" drunk and don't care for taste should avoid this "Super" beer.

From July 3rd 2010 notes.

5.4% for me.

Tried this in may 2008 at Barroso on Ontario street and enjoyed it a lot. Haven't had it since.

A- Clear gold with a bit of light, white head.

S- Soft malt. Hard to pick up anything else. Rice maybe. Some bastard noble hop smell.

T- Quite boring. A superior Budweiser. Less offensive but still something artificial in it. This is pretty sweet and tastes a bit like unhopped wort.

M- Crisp and dry. Medium to high carbonation. Feels pretty full.

D- Good. Are Molson and Coors drinkable? This is a couple notches more.

From the 1`2. fl. oz. bottle marked: 07.2011.05:22-L2620901. Sampled on November 21, 2010. The pour is almost an olive-yellow tone with virtually no head. It was from a brown bottle but the aroma was clearly skunked. Behind that was a little corn and grass. The taste is a step up with a dash of malts and hops but overall this tasted a lot like an American macro lager instead.

Appearance: Pours out a crystal clear, light amber body. Though there were some bubbles initially on the pour, they fizzled away in seconds.

Smell: Sweet-scented cereal notes with even lighter touches of fruit, hops, and alcohol.

Taste: Very mild, thankfully inoffensive tastes present. Lightly sweetish malted barley, scant scattering of corn kernels, faintly bitter European hops, and a hint of apple fruitiness. In and out in a flash.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: A light, easy drinking, but very forgettable beer, though the brazen SUPER BOCK label did bring a smile to my face.

Pours clear gold with a short lived fleecy white head. Fine brisk carbonation.

Aroma is fruity grain, lemon peel, sweet corn though light and not at all unpleasant.

Taste is crisp and light. Nothing spectacular, nor offensive.

Mouth feel is light and fleeting. Now its there ... now its not...

Overall a quite drinkable macro lager. Might pair nicely with some chorizo and manchego.

Doubt I'll buy it again unless its a lark or a request. But it was not bad. Not sure how they get away with calling it a "bock" Perhaps bock is Portuguese for "buck" as in a buck a bottle, which is more than I actually paid.

Would Superman drink Super Bock? I'll be the judge of that.

Crystal clear off-gold with a slow producing bubble that initially produced a big fluffy head, that faded into a soapy look.

Grainy, hoppy....with a slight whiff of fruit, possibly lemony. It's basically a very been-there-done-that smell. Not offensive, but possibly memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Brisk and pleasant taste that's slightly grainy and again slighty lemony; sweet ting, but dry.

I'd say a medium body which leans closer to the light side. Refreshing, and kind of creamy; soaks up your saliva.

It's an alright beer. Nothing special, and I wouldn't choose it again to buy and get loaded off of, but if it was the only beer at the box social, I wouldn't complain.

Superman told me if I brought this over to the Fortress of Solitude that he'd solitude my ass. I don't think he approves of this beer.

11.2 oz bottle. My first Portuguese beer.

It pours like any other adjunct lager, perhaps a bit more golden and darker, but not by much. The head is also slightly tighter than most, though the lacing is kind of that artificial looking lacing.

The smell is mostly sweetness, a nit of maize, and a subtle bit of hops. There is an ever so slight skunkiness despite he brown bottle.

The flavor is pretty standard, some corn, some sweetness, not much hops, a bit of biscuit, perhaps richer than your average adjunct, but not really any more enjoyable.

Super a Aldea in NYC.

Appearance-poured out of the bottle into the pint glass. Pale gold straw color, residual brown streaks, medium sized head that leaves quickly.

Smell-grainy straw, notes of light citrus, alcohol and grass, fairly clean.

Taste/Mouthfeel-light mouthfeel, fairly clean, smooth, grainy upfront, light fruit, alcohol mix, one last touch of grass on the way down, finishes clean.

Drinkability-no issues but nothing redeeming.

Overall-not at all memorable, too light and clean, no discernable highlights of flavor, I guess the best I can say was it wasn't awful, but that's not good enough.

I can't be too harsh on this, i.e., I can't really hold this to the same standards that I would a micro, seeing as how this might be like the Miller Lite of Portugal, who knows. I will review it as a comparison to Bud or Miller.

A - Pale yellow, no head.

S - Smelled like the Anheuser Busch brewery. Where the vats are. Strong barley smell and not much more

T - Like the smell, barley with the same adjunct back taste that it's American counterparts own, but a touch more flavorful. Getting through it was a chore.

M - Medium to high carbonation, dry finish.

D - not really unless I was actually at a Portuguese bar and they didn't have much else.

I purchased this beer to because it had a squawker next to it saying "new" and it was relatively cheap, like $1.49, which should have served as a warning of sorts that it wasn't going to be the best thing I've had.

250ml bottle poured in a chalice.

Traditional Portuguese Lager: Which means quite tasteless. To be avoided.

A: Golden to yellow to orange color. Clean. Medium (1 finger) white head which dissipates leaving no lacings
S: Authentic American Adjunct Lager smell, which means: Not good. Artificial smell of malts (most probably corn). A bit of hops as expected
T: Like the nose, not impressive. Malt and hops. The taste of corn jeopardizes it a lot. Too light bitter end
M: Light body. Reasonable carbonation and light bitter end
D: Low

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Wait, then why the hell is it called "Super Bock"? Oh well, crazy Portuguese. It pours a clear pale straw topped by a half-finger of white foam. The nose comprises wheat, corn syrup, and some rather light floral notes. The taste follows very closely, with the corn syrup's sweetness and the floral bitters gaining a bit of strength, though not very much, and with a slight metallic bit joining in on the fun. It all just malingers in the mouth. Sad, really. The body is quite light, with a light carbonation and a crisp-ish finish. Overall, a sad beer, drinkable enough, but I doubt many would really want to, beyond ticking away a Portuguese beer (my reason, to be honest).

pours a deep straw with snow white head that is very active and laces very intricately...settles fairly fast with nice wispy lacing remnants still clinging.

nose is the expected 'cerveza' smell, but not as offensive...a bit sweet but a hint of depth in the grainy-malty spectrum. not sure if corn is in the mix, but i sense it.

ok. interesting. the sweetness is but a trace on the tongue. nothing 'special' but actually very refreshing for its slightly bitter (= 'not sweet') profile. carbonation is actually lower than i expected allowing this to come across creamier and still firmly on this side of 'crispness'...quite drinkable. memorable for being one of the better brews from the world of forgettable brews...nothing to shout out about, but really good for being, i guess, better than expected and not offensive or boring.

Not really a bock, and not super, but adequate and not at all unpleasant.

Not sure why it is the main beer in Portugal, when there are much better ones around.

It has a slightly corny taste, and it is a very drinkable lager, but ultimately a forgettable experience.

I guess they use the name Bock to describe "strong" lager which is what it is at 5.6%. They also market this alot to the English soccer league which is why the name is in English.

tastes like a fresh clean Stella. was really suprised that I didn't mind it. Nice hop presence and good bitternss. well balanced lager.

Perfect beer break from the hop bombs I love and great with burgers, pizza, and mexican. Nice lager!

Little bock, let alone super, about this run of the mill macro lager import.

Presentation: 11.2 oz brown capped bottle. Red oval label around the name of the brew in large white fonts, and highlighting several awards and bragging notes about its authentic flavor. Back label repeats the slogan and logo alongside the perfunctory legal notes. Lacks bottling or best by date. Shows Alc. by Vol. (5.4%). Served in a tall bar glass.

A - Straw pour with a nice frothy head, average retention, fair surface memory and touches of lace.

S - Grainy malt, a whiff of hoppy bitterness.

T - Grainy, light malt, grassy notes with a faint hoppy touch in the back.

M - Light-medium body with generous carbonation and a minimal dry finish.

D - Hmmm, works as a refresher? Which is not much of a single compliment to a brew...

Notes: It´s not a pain but it sure is quite forgettable. It shows up more so as a gimmick in places that need to have a Portuguese touch with a macro import, and in that context it is totally avoidable.

11.2 oz. bottle, saw this on Three Sheets and it showed up at Hi-Times so I picked it up,

A: Pours a pale gold with a soapy long-lasting white head, no lace.

S: Corn, light vegetable notes, sweet malt.

T: Definitely has a corn lager flavour, light DMS. Some solid Saaz type hop notes add some spice and are the bright point of the beer.

M: Light-bodied, flabby and muddled - not crisp, tad overcarbonated.

D: I've had worse adjunct lagers, but this isn't anything that's going to interest me in having again. Not clean, not particulary refreshing.
