Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a medium size off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malts notes with light residual sugar notes. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt with light residual sugar and a somewhat dry watery finish. Body is light with good carbonation. Not bad but a bit short on character.

Dark copper, filtered with 6 fingers of beige head, and no carbonation.

Smells of dark toasted malts, clean linen, and fermenting oranges.

Tastes of dark toasted notes, molasses, rust, and a light sweetness.

Medium to light body, with little carbonation.

Got at CentFest in Chiang Mai today, drinking it here April 24th, 2017. Got it because I'm watching a travel show on Lisbon. No other need really for more details on this brew.

Super Bock uses a lot of young, attractive and virtually naked people in their advertisements (which you can watch on their website). And the beer itself is kind of like that too: Abadia has a fresh, healthy and attractive complexion, its pristine clarity, fluttering bubbles and soft but brimming light amber colour are all certainly worth showing off.

Unlike standard Super Bock, Abadia actually smells like a proper Bock. There's a simple but fairly substantial maltiness with hints of toasted bread crusts and a fleeting tinge of fruit esters and nutty sweetness. You can even make out a dash of earthy hops. It doesn't have all the power of Germany's best but it makes a very respectable homage.

According to the brewery, Abadia is their first beer to follow the traditional recipe book (which I read as "doesn't use cheap adjuncts"). I believe it. There isn't a trace of corn syrup or rice; the maltiness holds its own and offers a fairly compelling amount of toasty, bready, nutty flavour to accompany the authentically grainy overtone.

Perhaps most significant, it tastes like nothing was rushed. Aside from some very minor, basically negligible (and practically unavoidable) fruit esters, this is clean as clean can be. The malt is perfectly attenuated. There's not a trace of alcohol to be found, despite the sizeable 6.4% that's actually in there. All the evidence points to a properly, patiently lagered beer.

What a surprise! Having only tried Super Bock's bogus, lousy pale lager and knowing the massive Carslberg-owned brewery's reputation for making generic mass-market products, I never would have expected them to brew a proper and reasonably decent Helles Bock which, of all styles, requires immense skill, quality ingredients and close attention to detail.

From Alcampo. In Teku glass. Reading CPPHTP10 Ch12. This is not an abbey beer as its name suggest. More of a Marzen. It isnt too bad. Caramel taste and a bit alcoholic. To drink with care as its goes up to the head quickly.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 5A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L2617742. AROMA: sweet background with solventy notes and some cereal husk aroma. very faint malt aroma and no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: caramel like color and translucent. thin ivory head with poor retention. TASTE: faint sweet flavour mixed with some solventy notes. no noble malt flavours are present. very low bitterness. finishes sweet. PALATE: thin body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a watered down and artificial bulk beer that is not a bock nor an abbey style ale.
