Sampled on tap at the Brewgrass festival in Asheville, North Carolina. Consumed on 09/20/2008 and reviewed from notes taken at the time.
Have never had the chance to try anything from them before, so I decided to dive right in with a good fest beer! The pour was decent enough, though nothing spectacular by any means. Deep orange tinted amber with a lot of carbonation coming up through the very clear liquid. A smallish head, maybe a quarter of an inch sitting on the top before it finally decided to fade down into nothing.
The aroma again was decent, but nothing to jump up and down about. Decent notes of caramel malts, a touch of vinous hops maybe and a slight bit of some off spices. The flavor was a bit light for me if I am being honest. Interesting mix of caramel, brown sugar and some euro like hops flavors, but the mixture was just all wrong. The flavor was light, almost watery with a feel that just did not due anything for me. The fall seasonal should be a bit heftier, and this it was not. It was an easy drinker, I will give it that, but just too light for me to really ever go back for any more of it.
Overall this was average for me, almost forgettable. Not enough to turn me off from having anything else from their lineup, but enough to make me question a little bit. Still it's a hard style to make a break out into.

A: Bubby, burnt orange color, very fizzy. No real head or lacing.
S: Minimal. Bitter hops, cinnamon, maybe some cloves?
T: This is a really carbonated beer, rather bland too I thought. Amber malts, an odd adjunct taste, and a definite mineral water flavor add up to a rather disappointing beer. On top of that, it's simply too watery and bitter to be a proper Oktoberfest.
M: Bitter from the hops, finishes sour. Should be sweeter IMO.
Overall this was a below-average offering from New South. As much as I respect the fact that the guys in Myrtle Beach are local to my state, I couldnt get into this beer. Hopefully they can improve it in the future, 'cause South Carolina is dying for some quality in-state brews....

Crystal clear amber with a bit of beige lace.
Has a sweet nose with herbal/hop overtones, and a light, slick body.
Flavor is very mild. Hints of hops slide through a light toffee malt and whisk away again.
Clears quite quickly.
Definately another light, easy drinking brew from the New South crew.
