Very nice looking IPA. Creamy head and some decent lacing. It seemed nice pine and a little citrus I think. The taste was were this one fell short a little bit. Kind of average, nothing too distinct. The mouthfeel was good and it had the good carbonation. Overall, I would give this IPA a good overall rating. If you see it or can find it, give it a try.

The last beer we were served at the brewery, and we were told it was more of an interpretaion of an English IPA, I grabbed a growler of it, so this is from notes taken on 6/25/2011

A: pours a clear gold into a Duvel tulip with a finger of off white head that leaves a fair bit of lacing.

S: hoppy, a lot of citrus and orange. a surprising amount of sweet caramel hitting the nose.

T: still a lot of citrus, flowery and orange hops, but what was a nice sweetness becomes too much even for an English IPA and takes away from the nice hop profile.

MF: heavy, good carbonation. crisp, sharp flavor transfers.

O: Good beer, but it could make some improvments with the sweetness.

Pours a golden Amber with a good looking head. Floral scents give off a great little bit of aroma, citrus is also very present. Taste is hoppy, but not too much. There is a strong caramel presence as well, which makes for a nice malt flavour to balance out. The carbonation is a little strong for my taste, which is not to say that it is bad, but simply not my cup of tea (or beer for that matter). despite the carbonation, the beer still goes down smooth, and is relatively drinkable. overall a good IPA, and fairly above average fare. A much better introduction to New South than their white ale. A very good IPA from my local brewery

Sampled on tap at the Brewgrass festival in Asheville, North Carolina. Consumed on 09/20/2008 and reviewed from notes taken at the time.

The pour was decent I have to say. Nice solid amber color had a little bit more of a lighter clarity then I normally would like to see, but still more then adequate. A rich head maybe an inch high was all that could be mustered out, but it did not fade in anyway at all, in fact it looked the same five minutes after the pour.

The aroma was your typical good, fresh, IPA. Rich notes of citric orange, hints of pineapple and some light grass mixed in as well. Some semblance of some malt balance as it warms, but aside from that just a decent resin like hop profile. The flavor was more of the same, quick, biting, with a sharp cutoff between the initial hop surge and the balancing malt that kicked in after. Medium feel was more then normal and had a good consistency that kept it from feel cloying. Easily drank this one in a few minutes as it was very smooth and consistent.

Overall I thought it was a very solid IPA. While certainly not in the upper tier for the style. I would have no issue with trying this one again day. What a solid little brewery we have here. I may have to make a trip over there fairly soon to check this one out.

I had this on-tap at Canyons in Blowing Rock NC. I am not sure if it was a nitro tap or not. It did have an exceptional head, but I don't know if that means anything as I've never had a nitro-tap before.
A: Redish pine color. Incredible creamy, sticky head, that last forever. Lace covers the entire glass. A very attractive beer.
S: A very potent pine and flowery hop smell
T: Hops up front but not overpowering. Plenty of malt to balance it out. Has a little alcohol kick at the end.
M: Nothing exceptional here. A little too carbonated to my liking.
D: A very drinkable beer. One left me wanting another.
Overall this is a very good representation of the style. I will have this again when I have the oppurtunity.

Had on tap at Liberty Tap Room, Myrtle Beach.

Appearance was a clear golden color, typical of the style. Minimal head and lacing. Slight smell of grapefuit/grassy hops. Taste was very, very mild (for me) on the hops. More like a mild Pale Ale compared to most others I've had. The taste was OK, just not much on the hops. Mouthfeel was average as best, but you culd drink lots of these, as they are mild tasting.

Appears a dark amber with typical nitro head and decent lacing. Pockets of carbonation sit on the inside of the glass. The creamy white head never really dissolves.
The smell is of florally hops with a touch of sweet malt and citrus.
The taste is of floral hops, citrus, and smooth caramel malt.
Mouthfeel is smooth and full bodied with a low amount of IBU's.
Drinkability is decent and drinkable for an IPA.

Pours a hazy light copper/orange color nice off white head stays as a cap and laces thickly all the way down. Good head and lace due to nitro pour my first IPA from nitro not sure why they used it, but of well.

Aroma is light malt with some hop aromas, nothing spectacular to report but it was ok.

Taste is good hops flavors along with malt hints. Hops mostly citrus oragne and grapefruit. Taste is probably muted some what due to the nitro.

Mouthfeel is big medium smooth and creamy like a Guiness, ofcourse due to the nitro again.

Drinkability was ok would prefer CO2, but if I lived in SC and had there limited choices I would not be opposed to having this one again, nitro or not..

Light golden slightly hazy color with a small white head on it that fades quickly, malt is underplayed by the citrussy presence of the hops, bitter enough to remind you you're drinking an IPA but the aroma and flavor are definitely full of grapefruit, orange, and lemon tones. Fairly thin in body and light in alcohol.

Appearance: clear orange in color with some golden highlights. One inch head lasts a while and some thick lace paints the glass.

Smell: hints of grapefruit and some mild bitterness is hard to pull from the glass.

Taste: caramel, light grapefruit tones, green grapes, and a decent bitterness make up a mild IPA.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lighlty crisp to start, but a bit smoother towards the finish.

Drinkability: easy to quaff this one with the mild flavor profile. Worth giving this a try.

Always exciting to try out new brewery beers. As my first try at the New South, their IPA was certainly an impressive introduction. Brought to the table in a standard pint glass, Nitro carbonation is in obvious order. The beer has a very creamy, firm, strong golded appearance. Juicy hops leap out of the glass and swirl well with firm barley malts and caramel scents. The flavors display a very balanced hop / malt ratio, not letting the hops get too crazy. The malts show off caramel, toast, richness, and breads, while the hops portray citrus, grass, and pine. Firm body goes from heavy cream to thin hops quickly for a lot of ease in drinking. Fades quite clean into the finish with a mild hop lingering. A well-brewed treat, although I prefer more hop presence in an IPA. The nitro did mute the flavors a bit, but made up for a lot in the body.

Found this for the sampling at T-Bonz at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach. It shows a dark amber color with a big fuzzy white head and outstanding lacing. The aroma is a vey mild earthy hop but nearly nondescript. The flavor says caramel and light citrus hops. Enough hop to qualify as an IPA but not enough to make this a high ranking entry. It has medium body with some creaminess but it is a tad watery in feel with minor carbonation. The hops grow on you, lemon biscuit. Not bad but not highly memorable.
