Comes in a tall, thin brown half-liter bottle with a fairly plain but very German looking label. All the wording on the front is in German ("Traditional German Quality"). Foil wrapping around the neck includes the name, Altstein. The back label is in Russian, and plays up adherence to the purity law. Bottled on 9/25/03, I opened it on 11/27/03, beer #1 for Thanksgiving. Off to a bad start...
Poured a deep clear gold with absolutely no head. None. Zero. Not even a soda pop's worth of head. Amazing. The nose is full of malt, grain and corn. The mouth is prickly and heavy with rice. The taste is malty, but pretty bland. There is very, very little hops follow through, leaving a barley finish and a bland aftertaste. Not good.
