12 ounce bottle -> Highlands Brewing snifter

A - pours up a medium amber with a large two finger soapy head, good retention, and good lacing. There is quite a bit of sediment noted that goes straight to the bottom of the glass.

S - I didn't get much on the nose. Maybe some grassy notes.

T - very weak taste, very malty with no bitterness whatsoever. Finishes kind of dry.

M - heavily carbonated.

O - sorry I'll have to pass on this if it comes my way again.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high dense bright white head that has a Cool Whip-like consistency and has excellent retention properties.
S: There are light aromas of grainy malts and grassy hops in the nose.
T: The taste has light flavors of grainy malts and is slightly vinous; the hops contribute a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation. The finish has a bit of dryness.
O: The light-bodied nature of this beer makes it very easy to drink, but the beer could have a bit more flavor and less carbonation.

Pours a hazy, peach-juice-like yellow-orange color, with a substantial yet quickly dissipating eggshell white head. The aroma is a combination of musty, earthy, and slightly citrusy aromatics against a light toast malt base. The dull, musty hop characteristics are likewise present in the flavor, but they are less pronounced, allowing the light, dry, toast character to come through more clearly. The texture is surprisingly substantial and resinous, but the sharp, prickly carbonation keeps the palate somewhat clean, although it is also a bit distracting. Overall, this isn't outstanding in the grand scheme, but is a great, flavorful alternative to other light beer options.

Went into Brawley's and found this single bottle in the cooler, not for sale, its a sample, but he let me have it as long as I report back ! Split it into two glasses with a friend to sample, too.

A: Light golden haze, decent carbonation.

S: Smells slightly sweet.

T: Surprisingly satisfying for a light beer that has only 119 calories. The Kolsch flavor comes through even though the beer is watered down.

M: Light and easy but noticeably still an ale.

D: Best light beer I've had - maybe ever ?

Appearance: Pours a clear honey-gold color with a meringue pie head; plenty of lacing left behind

Smell: Bready, with a hint of hops

Taste: Bready, up front, with just a bit of grain and a hint of lemony hop in the back; slightly husky on the finish, with some residual sugar in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate, but zesty, carbonation

Drinkability: Refreshing and easy to drink; more of a crossover than a true Kölsch

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #35 (Dec 2009):

Boasting a bit about its lightness, at the same time it tries to keep its crafty edge by having the Kölsch label.

Mild chill, hazed golden-hay color does not block the view of the bubbles racing to keep the head alive. Slightly grainy and husky with a faint grape skin and lemon edge. Light crispness accentuates the lighter body. Dusty husk, dried grass, grape skin, grape-nut and doughy biscuit all come to mind with each sip. Hops run in and out, but slap down a quick bitterness and light herbal flavor. Dry ending with a nearly clean aftertaste.

Easy on the palate--Southern craft session is reborn again.

Sent to me straight from the brewery by Case.... A big thanks to him for the generosity....

Crystal clear pour with an awesome head and globby lacing... Light golden... Looks almost pilsner like...

Faint hop aromas mingle with a pale maltiness and a bit of sweetness not unlike apples or grapes or something... Not too heavy or dominant in one area...

Very crisp and refreshing... Pale malts with the slight sweetness and a background hop presence... The bottle says its a perfect lawnmower beer I would agree with that for sure... Easy drinking and smooth yet very tasty and still full of flavor...

I had come down hard on this brewery after having a couple of bottles that lacked any carbonation whatsoever.. Case saw the review and offered to send me replacement brews and this was one of them.. Much obliged...

Poured into a pint glass.

4.0 A: Clear golden yellow color. First pour gave about three fingers of white frothy head with pretty good retention and some spotty lacing.

3.0 S: Cider and cotton candy. I can't say I hate the aroma, but I don't think this is what they were going for. It's rather one dimensional and goofy.

1.5 T: Kinda taste like nothing. Slightly vinous and the cotton candy makes a slight appearance again. Hops are basically null and void.

1.5 M: Super light body with an unreasonable amount (on the high end) of carbonation.

2.0 D: This isn't the greatest style and it's hard to make a good one, but this brew doesn't even come close. Hops are nowhere to be found and malts are simple and weak.

Served from tap into a standard pint. Pours a pale yellow with a one finger white head that subsides to minimal. There was nice lacing evident throughout. The aroma was comprised of light malt and an earthy note. The flavor was of malt and nutty notes. It was light on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was not a bad brew. It has been one of my favorite lighter beers that I have had. It is worth trying if you enjoy light brews.

3.4/5  rDev -0.9%
look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Pours out an essentially clear, gold body with a small-sized, fizzy, white head.

Smell: Extra pale malts with a hint of clean graininess. Spicy, floral hops, though these notes are quite light.

Taste: Simple graininess and sweet are my initial impressions. Like a Dixie Crystals sugar packet has been added. Oh, wait, there's only 119 calories, so, let's say ½ a packet of sugar. A thin trace of floral, spicy hops and bitterness to round things out. Drying, though very thin finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Fine for a light, not so great for a Kölsch. If nothing else, it does offer a bit more than the Budmilloors options.

Decided to give this one a try after hearing about it's gold medal in this year's GABF. Pours a crystal clear golden color with fluffy, white head. Aroma is bread and mild hops. A really clean, crisp taste that is quite refreshing. Biscuty upfront and a slight bitterness on the back end that is really nice. Just enough body in this one which makes it a great summertime ale. Drinkability is outstanding. Definitely give this one a go and buy by the case!

Another in a series I am working my way through this weekend. I went for the lighter fare right after dinner. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 06/06/2009.

The pour was yellow straw colored with a good amount of carbonation rippling throughout into a big fizzy white head that settled dwon to leave a bare top after a few moments. Light wet hay in the aroma, hints of banana and maybe clove? Clean crisp flavor here with a very light body and a clean and very quick finish, leaving almost no flavor behind as it moves past the tongue.

Overall this is not bad at all, but put in the category of a Kolsch and I have had much, much better. Still I would go for it in a pinch.

Pours a very slightly hazy golden with no head, but no carbonation problems. Light. grainy, and dry in the nose. Light and clean in flavor with some light floral hops at the finish and the very slightest bit of slightly sweet, but clean grain throughout. Not bad for the style at all. Smooth rather than crisp and a little soft, but a different take on a hot weather beer that works pretty well.

I've had this one a few times at various spots around throughout the state. For some reason I always admire the appearance of this beer. It has a crisp, golden color with a full white head and looks very refreshing. Has some mild malt and hop notes in the aroma, but is full of flavor given the style. Mouthfeel is light and clean with a little bitternes that lingers. A lower abv/calorie levels leave this an easy drink on a hot day. Love it!

Threes across the board. Out of the four brews in the RJ Rockers sampler pack, this one was the most enjoyable... and that's only in comparison to those in THAT sampler.

It looked like a kolsch, had a light kolsch aroma and taste. There was a better bite with this one than the others, mostly due to better effervescence. Finish was clean and slightly dry. All in all, just what I'd expect.

Got this on bottle and sampled with members of the Charlotte Beer Club.
The beer is a clean amber body with well retaining pale head. Pretty Kolsch
The smell is a little muggy. It has some obvious hops that smell pretty bitter and some pale malt notes too.
Taste is very crisp and clean. Smooth malt background and some mild hops layering throughout the swallow. Malty end. All flavors are fairly subtle, this is a good session beer and one you could have after a long day of work. Good beer, nice drinkability

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a golden color and a mainly clear texture. This beer had a small head that dissipated quickly.

S: Slightly hoppy quality to the aroma, but not a lot other than that.

T: Tasted a little of hops at first, but it was mainly just thin and not very complex.

M: An average amount of carbonation and a slick, oily finish.

D: This is just another blazingly average beer without much personality. Not very interesting at all.

first off,

not the best beer in the world. not the worst either, however.
looked like the sam adams light, to be honest, and drank like it as well. no nose whatsoever, cereal grains and a bit of a flavor boost on the finish's exhale, but nothing really worth writing home about. the only good thing about this beer is that the women will enjoy it because they will drink a dung-ton of it to get a buzz, knowing that it's a "light" beer, and it is crisp and basically flavorless. the palate provided by this beer is comical. good try, rj rock, but anybody who gives a damn won't be fooled.

here's to budweiser!

Rockers entry into the "lite" beer category, at "just" 119 calories. This one I found the least enjoyable of the six Rockers brews I sampled. It is pale and weak with no standout flavors. On the plus side, however, it does go down easy without any strange off-tastes. I would consider this brew in about the same class as a Coors...easy enough to drink, but nothing to write home about.

This beer was poured from the new 12oz bottles into a rockers pint glass. Thanks to Jason at the brewery for the sample.

Clear Golden. Stark White head. The head holds a nice foam, but does not leave a lot of lace. The smell is faint with a sweet bready maltiness. The taste is similar to the smell. Very light with a distinctly bready malt flavor and virtually no hop presence. The mouthfeel is light-medium, bordering on medium. Lively carbonation, without being overcarbonated. A drinkable Kolsch. Quite refreshing with no off flavors (such as corn or rice) that would normally find in a "Light beer". Drinkable and refreshing, just not all that complex or interesting.
