This Dunkelweizen is overlaid with chocolaty flavors and fruity aromas, a beer that's so good it redefines the word bad. That's right...BAD is good!

Undated 12oz bottle, with ABV listed as 6%, poured into a snifter. Pours dark reddish-brown, nearly black, with a small tan head. Retention isn't very good but has decent lacing. A thin layer of sediment coats the bottom of the bottle, with a bit added in the pour.

Aroma: Sweet malts with less dark roasted malt than expected given the appearance. Some alcohol esters, coffee and dark fruit as well.

Taste: features roasted grains, with what I beleive is bickwheat. Some coffee and chocolate here but more dominant in the finish and aftertaste. Some dark fruit mid-taste. Mild bitterness and only a hint of smoke.

Mouthfeel: fairly smooth. Medium-full body. Slightly powdery finish.

Overall: distinct and moderately flavorful but mild.

P: Murky super dark cola appearance with thin cappuccino head.

S: Rich caramel and toffee malt, roasted grain, sweet molasses, prunes, cocoa powder and stale coffee. Clove, cinnamon, and faint licorice. Cherry cola and bourbon fumes with big inhales.

T/M: Coffee, amaretto sweetness, bittersweet cocoa and loads of roasted grain. Really earthy and less fruity than I expected. Timid fruit sweetness in the after bite. No alcohol presence. Light-medium grainy body with an aggressively effervescent sting. Finish is dry and sweet.

O: This at first was drinking like a porter until the subtle sweet fruit came in on the tale end. A decent beer but not a huge success. I would drink this again but won't seek it out.

Black, with short-lived, quarter inch, froth foam that leaves scant lacing and a thin film on a Dogfish Head snifter.

Phenol up front and dominated by roasted grain and powdered chocolate.

The flavor follows the nose, the chocolate being more prominent, but is mostly grainy with a light, short finish. The balance is decent.

A medium body with watery texture and big, fizzy carbonation. Light alcohol.

I had this as a fresh bottle and later aged nine months with no significant effect. This is a decent beer that works well with sausage or kielbasa.

This beer pours with a muddy, near-opaque dark cola brown, with almost no head at all. The aroma is dark and fruity, with a light cherry-like sweetness and a little brown sugar overlaid on a bed of cereal grains. The flavor is likewise fruity and sweet against a nutty, dry graininess. There is also a bit of astringency and some mild but noticeable alcohol burn that distract from the initial flavor profile. It has a nice light/medium body, but the texture is a bit too drying. In the end, this beer has an interesting flavor profile, but a few negative characteristics drag down the overall impression.

Thinnish offwhite head, translucent dark brown body.

Nose has heavy chocolatey malt. Really the sort of malt that just makes you think of malt. Like malt balls.

Body is malty, not overly rich, dryish and really, really nice. Kinda of a German dunkel. None of the heaviness or sweetness I associate with wheat, but this is really well balanced and incredibly drinkable.

Smooth, kinda coarse and airy. Lightish, I guess.
