I went here in the dead of February, and sadly, for this little surf-town, it's off season for brewing. That's ok - I had some of their other local favorites that were on tap. It's located somewhat far from the center of the town, down by the ocean and some hotels. I imagine during the summer the atmosphere may change quite a bit. Nonetheless, it was quite crowded on a Thursday evening in the off season and there were live blues/jazz musicians playing in the corner. Its a large and spacious place, shaped sort of like a barn. Their food was ok a lot of it is seafood related. They didn't have a tremendous amount on tap, but the bartender was friendly enough and willing to talk about beer.

Because of DaPeculierDane's review I was not going to stop here but I was traveling from the coast to Grants Pass Ore. so I was in Crescent City anyway.
This place started life as Jefferson State Brewing and at that time the beer was very good as was the food and they were full for lunch and dinner every day. I was told it was owned by the same people as Arcata, now closed also, and then it just closed, despite the good business.
It stayed closed for a year or more and opened under its current name. They offered guest beers and tried to make a go of the brewing once again but failed. I was here at that time and there was only a little business with a rough group of customers.
So now it is not a micro or even a beer bar but at least they are crowded and the service is good and the customers are friendly.
The funny thing is in a small town everyone knows everything, but in all of the times I have been here and Crescent City no one in the town knows anything about this pub.

Note: This is not a brewpub (currently listed as one on BA as of July 23, 2007) nor has it been a brew pub, if it ever was one, for years.
This is a surf bar that offers varieties of wine from one vitner, 4 bottles of beer, Bud, Pacifico, Odouls, Kaliber, and 6 taps, although on the day I visited, only 5 beers were available on draft. These were: Hawk Tail, Mirror Pond, AV Summer, Widmer Hefe, and Lagunitas IPA. No liquor is sold.
The only thing the staff love more then surfing, which is their entire life, is good beer, so it really surprised me that this huge place that calls itself a brewery did not have more, or better beer.
I've been to a few places that call themselves a brewery that are nothign more then a tied house or a good beer bar but this one really takes the cake. It does not brew its own beer and it only offers a couple beers. WTF mate?
Like I said, staff really like good beer and are friendly. Selection and quality just suck.
Didn't try food.
Atmosphere is pretty wretched. The place is barn shaped but built out of steal, concrete, sheat metal, and plaster. It's sparsly decorated with surf stuff. TVs play surf movies. The music is reggae, margharita ville, and surf rock. Pretty dull, cheap, and sterile.
I'm giving this place a low score because compared to BA beerbars, this place completely sucks. Still, when in the middle of redwood land, where there are not too many beer meccas, at least one can get an ok beer here.
Don't go out of your way to go here but if you're staying in CC, this place is good for a beer or two.
Pints are $3.50.

This was once called Jefferson State brewing however they closed. Since the new owner sold the brewing equipment the name is just Surfside Grill now.
Spacious place with a nice loft area. The locals are friendly as is the staff. They have a couple of TV's above the bar area.
All stainless steel tap nozzles and could not see the kitchen. Restroom was clean. The wood tables, chairs, and bar appeared fairly new.
Service was friendly and prompt.
They had some micro (Deschutes) and PBR, no cask. The only notable micro that I had here was Six Rivers IPA.
The food was good and healthy.
