Huge thanks to Mar for sharing this American classic.

The beer pours a very light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grain and nothing else. The flavor is heavy on the grain and heavy on the corn. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not terrible, but a beer with no good qualities. Avoid this one.

12oz can, pilsener glass, 'FEB1411' printed on the bottom.

Quite the looker for a Light Lager; medium yellow, sterily clear, with good head retention in super bright white.

Light corny aroma, a little grain, and something vegetal.

Unsurprisingly, there isn't much flavor. Pretty much the same as the aromas but sweeter than they suggest. A little dryness.

Just what you'd expect, fizzy yellow beer.

It works pretty well for games such as beer pong, flip cup, and, of course, the fusion flip cup beer pong. Yes, I am in college. Just don't do those things too often, it ain't good for ya.

Standard light beer appearance: yellow with a white head that vanishes before you can raise the glass to your lips. Generic light beer aroma, which is almost nonexistent, with just a touch of dry malt and no hops. Light body and thin mouthfeel. The flavor is standard fare with an odd note. Nothing that I can pinpoint - no flaws, just unusual. I won't go as far as to suggest it has anything to do with an excessive use of adjunct ;) Additionally, the balance seems a little bit off, leaning more towards the bitterness. Not necessarily a fault, but unusual for a light beer. Not the shining star of the Light Lager category, but OK at it's price point. Still, I think you can do better.

Thanks to woodychandler for the trade.Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a very pale yellow color with a 1 inch head. Smell is primarially of corn. Taste is very weak, some corn and malts, not much going on here at all. Feels light in the mouth and does have decent drinkability. Overall there is nothing to recomnend about this beer.

Pretty typical straw pour with a thin white head that fades out. Leaves a little lacing, though. Smells of cooked vegetables, grain, and not much else. Taste is not as grainy as I thought it would be. Fair bit of sweetness. Almost a kind of nutra sweet like flavor in the finish. Pretty impressive malty aftertaste though. Has a little more body than the average light lager. Not a very interesting drink, but its refreshing, I guess. I could put a few away without getting too sloppy.

Schaefer Light has a thick, white head and a clear, straw appearance, with a pretty good amount of bubbles streaming up. Some sheet lacing is left behind. The aroma is slight and sweet, and the taste is likewise mild and sweet, but this particular light beer had a surprisingly high amount of flavor, even though no particular ingredient shines through. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Schaefer Light finishes crisp, refreshing, and easy drinking. Overall, I was happy to see that this brand had no foul or ugly mineral water aspects. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it.

Poured a light straw hue with a one finger white foamy head. There was little retention and decent lacing.

The smell was mostly that of adjuncts. A mild grassy hop aroma.

The taste was what one would expect - light corn. A bit jagged.

The mouthfeel was a bit chewy, not a good thing for a light macro. Good carbonation otherwise.

Drinkable for what it is - light macro. Not the worst I have ever had. Served ice cold, not a bad campfire beer.

Appearance: Clear pale golden color with a small white head, which retains poorly and an abundance of light fizzy carbonation, poor lacing.

Aroma: Husky, astringent aroma of grain and metallic hops.

Taste: Begins with thin malt flavors and grain notes, there is a tired flourish of hops at the end of the taste. Finishes clean and dry.

Mouth feel: Watery and thin, the carbonation contributes a pronounced sting.

Drinkability/notes: Unremarkable, not much more presence than a carbonated mineral water, although it might prove refreshing on a very hot day.

Appearance: Pours a light light, clear water with a drop of pale gold, color and a bleach white head. This beer may even be lighter than BMC lights.

Smell: Smells like every other light beer. When I first open the can I got a surge of grain but 10 minutes after the beer is poured the aroma seems to have walked away. Remnants of bitter gassy may be decectable in the nose while the beer is in your mouth but there is very little there.

Taste: It is watery with a hint of sweet malt grain then corn and a very grain dry bitter aftertaste (seems metallic like hard water) that lingers and then drops off almost instantly.

Mouthfeel: Light in the mouth with adequate carbonation but little body.

Drinkability: The simple flavor and short aftertaste means it is not offensive and it is certainly light, ... so ... is it drinkable? Well sure, and so is water.

Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

Very light golden offering with a very short crown of limited duration.
There is really nothing for the nose and the carbonation seems almost non existant.
The body is light and the taste is well balanced in a moderate sort of way, in that any evidence of hops or malts is quickly dispersed.
Kind of sad to think that their is actually a market for this kind of product...

The CANquest lives...
A silver can proclaiming: "Proudly brewed in the United States of America using the finest quality ingredients."
Uninspiring, clear yellowy liquid, topped by a large, bright white head. Foam slowly shrunk to a thin floating cap. Some whiff of cereal grain, mild sweetness. Typical lager flavor (however mild it may be), a bit grainy, some adjunct-like sweetness. Mouthfeel and body was thin and watery, slight sticky sweet aftertaste.
Average at best, nothing bad, as expected for a light lager. Thanks Woody

CAN you dig it? This was on my "Wants" list for a while and all it took was a weekend trip to Baltimore to fulfill my desire.

The pour created a massive two fingers' worth of bone-white head that actually crowned above the rim of the glass before slowly reducing to to a dense cottony mass. The beer's color was a pale straw-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a light cereal/grainy quality underlain by a mild lager sweetness. Nothing new here, folks. Mouthfeel was thin and watery with a mild sweetness on the tongue. Again, nothing eye-opening, but not dreck, either. Finish had a light honey/lager sweetness which was less-than-satisfying, but not horrible, either.

Not so good than its sister, but is ok for buddies, smell aromatic like crushed hops, templated; taste hard, like a yeast and corn starch and rice, little dry too; try with mexican food or bbq; serve in a pilsner glass; or in a glass mug; 785 recommended.

One interesting thing about this otherwise very boring beer is that it lists some of the nutritional info on the side of the can (110 calories, 8.3g carbs, .0g protein, and 0.0g fat). I haven't seen that anywhere else. Still this is a pretty boring light beer that isn't offensive, but makes no strides to impress the drinker. (Edited 11/10/03: by now, I realize that all light beer has the nutritional info. It's just that I was too lazy to notice previously).

Schaefer Light pours a very pale straw color with active carbonation. The thin, fizzy white head disappears almost instantaneously leaving absolutely nothing. The smell is quite light and a little sweet; basically some grains and some husky smell. Mouthfeel is of course, light, watery and fizzy. Initial taste: where's the taste? Quite watery. Some light grains and maybe a touch of alcohol. Surprisingly, there is a tiny amount of hops, which help add a little dryness to the finish. Aftertaste is clean for the most part, but some DMS/veggies and corn taste appear. This beer concludes with no alcoholic warmth.

My opinion? Not very exciting. Easy to drink, and it doesn't taste putrid, but it hardly tastes at all. Not quite Coors Light on the scale of alcoholic fizzy water, but this won't turn any heads.

A - The color is a clear lemon jolly rancher. Or maybe one of those pale yellow diamonds. But don't be misled. This beer is no diamond. Pours a standard hotel towel color white fluffy head. Very bright very bleached.

S - Well bad news first. Summer officially started here this week. The kids are out playing. The weather is nice. Imagine that old slip-n-slide getting pulled out of the attic and dusted off. That slightly worn creaky rubber plastic smell. Now imagine a mother skunk sliding down that damp Tarmac. That's tge image this beer gives me. Normally these adjunt lagers have vague smells of corn sugar and processed rice. This bad boy doesn't even have that. It's the beer that just never was.

T - As you can now imagine. There's not a lot going on here. You know that sceene in Back to the Future when Marty starts to fade away. That's this beer. The time stream has been changed and you never actually drank this beer.

M - Tough to comment on. Left over slipnslide water from the above image perhaps.

D - It's affordable. That's worth something.

Average. That is all I can say about appearance, smell, taste, mouthfeel, and drinkability.

In the 80's this stuff was cheap, and we could get LOTS of it.

"Schaefer Light is brewed to the highest quality standard, with pure water, choicest hops, finest barley malt, corn and cultured yeast"...at least that is what it said on the cans.

I'm not sure I agree with the can.

Now that I am older, and wiser, and have more money...even if this stuff was still around; you wouldn't even catch me shopping at a store that sold it.

Water!
