Largely an average APA in looks and smell.
But the taste introduces a problem of hops that try to do too much.
Soon, the after-taste and mouth feel sinks this Pale Ale below average... very cloying, and gave me an upset tongue.

I suppose it is fine for a restaurant to enter the brewery business. But based on this sampling, I'm not sure I would eat the food, either.

Pours amber gold with a slight haze under a 2" off-white foam collar. Smooth and creamy, medium body, medium carbonation, some fruit, sweet with a good dose of American hops

The first sip of this rather easy to drink Ale actually made me smile and after all is that not the best thing we can hope for with a beer? I've really never tasted anything like this before; the perfect mix of an bitter hops, sweet malts and a drinkable fluidness. A nice bite of hops tamed by watery and slightly carbonated sweetness. People are always talking about carmel in beer but I've never really experienced it like this beer.

A: Pours a clear amber with a thick, fluffy off-white head that takes some time to settle.

S: Aromas of caramel, biscuit, crackers, black pepper, lemon jelly, bitter orange, herbs, leather, and black tea are most noticeable.

T: Hoppy notes of black tea, lemon jelly, bitter orange, herbs, leather, black pepper, and mild tobacco are balanced by firm notes of caramel, toffee, crackers, and biscuits. The finish is dry and mild with notes of lemon, tea, caramel, and biscuit most pronounced.

M: Medium in body and initially somewhat sappy, although the beer turns dryish around mid-palate. Carbonation is firm, yet delicate. Really easy to drink.

O: I think classifying this beer as an APA is a bit misleading. The flavor profile reminds me more of English IPAs and pale ales. In the end, this is not a bad beer, but I think it is a bit misunderstood.

16 oz bottle poured into a Hinterland stange.
5.3% ABV

A - Clear golden wheat in color, the beer resembles the Hinterland H circle and features plenty of carbonation feeding the beer's billowing white head. Thick chunky lace cakes the glass with sticky webbing, putting the cap on the perfect appearance.

S - Delicate and restrained but deliberate in their use, the hops impart a citrus and floral fragrance of freshly zested lemon, lemongrass, and spring garden for a lovely overlap of subtle grainy pale malts and a kiss of pear skin.

T - Hoppiness appears cleanly in flavor, mirroring the aroma's subtle but deliberate delivery of lemony citrus and bright floral attributes before finishing with very light malt sweetness reminiscent of honey spread thinly over toast.

M - The flutter of bitterness that punctuates the finish of this light-bodied pale ale adds exceptional dryness, which lingers on the tongue with citrus notes for wonderful drinkability.

O - Hinterland Pale Ale's simple and restrained hop use isn't to be misconstrued as underhopping as the level is perfect to offset and rise above the grainy pale malt base, developing with easy drinking bitterness and citrus and floral flavor. This might not have slap-in-the-face hops but not every pale ale has to.
