A: Pours a nice amber-brown, with a good light head. Left a fair amount of lacing down the glass.

S: Floral notes. The last thing I personally want out of a marzen. Beneath those, toast and yeast, which I would expect.

T: Floral notes confirmed - there's definitely some amount of resiny-flowery hops in this alleged marzen. The bready malt one expects as the base for this style is present, but for me, buried beneath the perfume.

M: Creamy, smooth, and full - Hinterland nailed the mouthfeel for this one.

O: I was disappointed to find an appreciable amount of hopping done to a marzen, hence the lower score. I will not repeat this one.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass.

A - Pours a clear dark golden with a finger of white puffy head.

S - Smooth toasted malts, light hops, some yeast in there as well.

T - Nice flavor of toasted malts, light hops. Mid palate getting light toffee and carmel flavors. On the aftertaste more hops and malts.

M - Medium mouthfeel, with medium carbonation.

O - A really good oktoberfest! Cheers!

Hinterlands Oktoberfest pours a nice clear amber with a thick robust off white head and some
great lacing. The nose is pretty straight forward. Toasted malts, caramel, and light herbal
notes from the hops. Flavor profile is pretty standard, which is NOT a bad thing. Good malt
background with toasted caramel malts and a bitter hop finish. More hops than a standard
Oktoberfest, but not too far out of the ball park to question what it is if you were handed it
blind. Good carbonation gives it a lively mouthfeel that is very nice and highly quaffable.
A solid offering.

A very solid Octoberfest, locally brewed. Nice color. Better at cellar temp. Just wished it had a little more malt finish.

16oz bottle

A- Poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear copper color with an off-white head.

S- The aroma is toasted bready malt and not much else.

T- The taste like the aroma is malty with a touch of bitterness from the hops in the finish. This one is a tad hoppier than a traditional Oktoberfest. I don't mind an Oktoberfest with a little more hops, but it would been nice for the beer to have a stronger malt backbone.

M- The mouthfeel is light bodied with a high amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, not my favorite Oktoberfest out there but it isn't bad either.

32 oz. growler filled a couple days ago, poured into a highball shaker.

A - Pours a light caramel gold and brown. A one-finger head of loose, cream off-white foam quickly dissipates, leaving a coating of soapsuds bubbles across the surface followed by spotty fine lace, along with a coarse, thick ring around the sides. Held to a full-spectrum light, the beer is rich golden orange/brown and slightly opaque, but not cloudy.

S - Nicely toasted malts mixed with light caramels. Hints of toffee and a touch of butterscotch. Nose is pretty soft in the glass, but pleasant and lingering when it appears. As it warms, the toast comes forward and gets a bit darker, along with hints of wild floral hops and a bit of orange rind.

T - Initial taste on the tongue is true to the nose, but the same hops faintly detected are more present and forward as they follow in behind to provide balance. Echos of light caramels in the finish, with just enough herbal hops to keep the palate clean. This profile is pretty straight-forward and simple, in a good, enjoyable way.

M - Decently fizzy. Moderate carbonation. Body has a bit of substance with good structure. Components are properly integrated. Finish is short and leans a touch drier than the taste would suggest.

O - While there's really nothing distinctive about this beer, it's a nice example of how a straight-forward approach to a traditional style can be enjoyable to drink. The bittering hops give it a bit of an American feel, as the finish is pretty short of the typical Marzen sugars, but that gives this beer the advantage of being easy to session as well as pair with fall grilling items. I like the Marzens that feature a generous Munich grain bill. This one goes in the plus column.
