White Cap pours out a hazy yellow-gold color with two fingers of well-retaining head. The aroma is actually very good for the style, there's a strong hop presence with an actual well-integrated Belgian yeast. Again, I'm grading to style because I usually don't like Belgian/White IPAs, but this is much tastier than the majority of them on the market. The Belgian flavors are very present, but very well integrated with the hops, instead of the clash that most of the beers in the style present. The mouthfeel is light and crisp, and the drinkability is very good. Overall, White Cap is very good in two areas - session and Belgian IPA. One of the best examples of the style.

Hinterland "White Cap"
16 oz. can, no apparent freshness dating
$2.99 @ ABC Fine Wine & Spirits #19, Tampa, FL

Notes: Interesting... truly a witbier & IPA blend. Flavor of wheat/tart lemon with raspy, grassy, and herbal hops. Bitter. Good at first but then bitterness builds, and even with a built up base of wit bier, it has trouble maintaining balance. Dry, hoppy finish lingers. Worth trying.

12 oz bottle poured into a Hinterland tulip
4.2% ABV

A - Underneath it's rocky white cap, an ever-so-slight haze forms over the pale golden beer, reflecting the bottle's label quite well. Jagged lace jets up from the beer creating a rocky silhouette around the glass, completing portrait very well.

S - Dry and crisp, the aroma is hop-forward, with dry hopping bringing freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, pear skin, and pine sap into play with lemon and orange peel citrus. Spicy yeast ester undertones add a charming "white" twist of coriander, clay, and wet grass to the dry pale malt base.

T - White Cap's bright hoppiness continues from the aroma into the flavor without skipping a beat; pine and bold grapefruit juice overwhelm the more subtle of the aroma's nuances of "white" yeast characteristics. White Cap tastes more like an IPA than a Belgian-influenced one.

M - My only complaint, if any, with Hinterland White Cap is the lack of body for how bitter the beer is. This drinks like a bold IPA because there is little balance on the back end. Nice carbonation keeps the crisp, dry beer lively though!

O - White Cap is quite refreshing and wonderfully hoppy in both the aroma and flavor but the hoppiness is a double-edged sword that also becomes taxing with how little body the beer has to support the hoppiness. Sticking with it's "white" theme, which is wonderful in the aroma, I might (if it were my beer) decrease kettle hops and lower the sharp bitterness. It would take this very good beer to new levels of really balancing the Belgian influence with the hops rather than allowing the subtle notes to be overrun. Either way, White Cap is fragrant and bright hoppy beer with tons of character.

Paid $2.45 for the single at Vintage Estate.

A - A rather dark orange color, clear with a 1/2 inch of head that pulls back to a sticky lace ring. Good lacing.
S - Smells rather hoppy with a bit of wheat and coriander. It's actually quite intense despite the low ABV.
T - Somewhat balanced mostly herbal bittering hops mixed with a sweet malt body.
M - Rather watery but to be expected for such a low ABV. Not great or terrible.

Overall pretty hoppy so I was impressed but it came off like more of a session IPA than a white IPA.

poured 12oz bottle into Duvel tulip

A - Light golden yellow with a 1.5 finger bright "white cap" head. Thin ring remains for the session and spots of lacing dot the glass.

S - Dim citrus, grapefruit, and pine hops. Only a little Belgian yeast and minimal malt.

T - Light, bitter grapefruit and minimal citrus hoppiness. Belgian yeast is very subdued and the malt presence is lacking. Some piney bitter and grapefruit on the finish.

M - Light bodied, made to be an easy drinker. Carbonation is also light. Some minor bitterness lingers.

D - Light sessionable beer, like CW Hop Rise and Founders All Day. Not much Belgian yeast or malt to be found in this, which is intended. Not something I will get again.
