Very malty, smooth for 9.7 abv but not up there with the best. Still a good drink

Sadly I feel like most Lengthwise scores on here are artificially inflated. This isn't a terrible brew, just not my style of IPA. Comes off more east coast in nature. Think aunrefined Knuckle Sandwich

Got excited when I saw the date (only 5 days old). That excitement turned to disappointment after it was opened. Its a bottle conditioned beer that wasnt given the proper amount of time to carbonate, so it was dead flat.

Big DIPA's are not usually my fist choice. However, Zeus is an exceptional beer. Very well balanced and clean (even with massive hop additions). Very little alcohol warmth and dry finish is enough to trick me into believing that it is a much smaller beer. I usually stick with one tho.

A: deep golden to copper color, thin but creamy head

S: sweet grain, nectarine, light carmel

T: malty sweetness, low bitterness, citrus rind

M: starts moderately viscous but finishes clean and dry with slight alcohol warmth

O: Great beer from Lengthwise, they continue to improve and evolve.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a tulip glass (carefully, of course, as not to disturb the yeast sediment). I hadn't checked the bottled on date, drinking this 9.4% DIPA almost 2 months after bottling. Last time I had it was on tap at the brewery. This should be interesting.

A - Deep golden hazy color with barely a half finger of off-white head. Retention is very short, but a constant stream of carbonation is always rising from the bottom of the glass. Lots of thick lacing.

S - Very earthy hop aroma. Still smells like a DIPA.

T - The 2 months on the shelf is much more apparent in the taste than the smell. Hop bitterness is still there, but not much hop flavor. Malt sweetness is coming through up front. Finishes with a definite caramel sweetness.

M - Feels pretty thick at first, almost syrupy, but finishes clean and dry. No shortage of carbonation in this bottle conditioned brew.

O - I was expecting to be let down once I realized how long it had been sitting, but I was still very satisfied. A great DIPA from Lengthwise that balances sweetness and bitterness.

052914 on the label. I assume this is a bottled on date. or at least I hope it is that rather than a best before. mailed to me from a trading partner in CA. bomber into tulip.

A: pours a fairly hay reddish hue. head is slightly off-white and frothy. good retention and lacing.

S: this is busy and right on the verge of boozy as you can get without actually being boozy. hop citrus and hop pine are right on edge of all the malt caramel aroma I get in there too.

T: a sweet syrup-like flavor starts things off. big. some boozy characteristics work with some resinous pine flavors. however the hop flavors are seriously muddied by the booze and body. finish is a mix of boozy heat and malty lingering unfermentables. not getting my residual bitterness.

M: moderate carb on a very full body. very full.

D: more similar to an American strong ale or American barleywine than a DIPA. too much heat, too much malt, too rough. I am a little confused that this beer is getting 5 after 5 on its reviews and I am that far off the norm. meh, I mean what I say and this brew needs some tuning up.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #87 (Apr 2014):

Big, Fruity, Citrus

Bottle-conditioned and dry-hopped with Citra in the ferment and bright tank, Zeus pours a hazy gold, with a creamy, tight head that retains very well. Fruity, apples, citrus, and floral aromas. Firm, syrupy body and flavor, a bit oily, with a malty sweetness, toasty undertones, bitter edge, and heavy dose of fruity notes; ranging from tropical to citrus. A very solid, deceivingly drinkable, Imperial IPA.

Beautiful looking beer. A blast of citrus and orange comes across the nose. Very juicy and the alcohol is hidden well.

Went by Lengthwise Brewing company because I started hearing a major Buzz about This new beer, Zeus Imperial IPA. I was so impressed. This beer is very unique in the fact that, for an Imperial IPA, it has an amazing flavor and there is no huge alcohol aroma to the nose or palate, that you normally get with 10% beers. Very nice, full body and a wonderful hop flavor, nice mild citrus flavor. In my opinion, this is a perfect Imperial IPA! Well Done Lengthwise Brewing Company!!

Was in Bakersfield visiting family and friends and I had the amazing opportunity to try Lengthwise's Zeus IPA. IPA's are my beer and I have to honestly say that the Zeus was the best IPA I can recall ever having. If you have the opportunity, and enjoy a hoppy beer, then I highly recommend the Zeus. I promise you won't regret it.

My second time trying this beer. 1/29 bottle, noticably different than the first time i tried it. I recieved a 10/30 bottle as a extra in a trade in november last year and i would have scored it a little higher. Still a great beer but a little boozy for me this time around.

Make sure to wear your big-girl panties when you try this. With an ABV of 10%, this snifter served craft brew with make you think twice before picking up any other bottled beer.
Once you go Zeus, you'll feel like a moose.... In the rivers of Canada. Delightful at all costs!

Everytime i have this beer it gets better its really growing on me, deep hazy gold, bright citrus notes, oily mouthfeel, its a real winner in my book and truly does contend with top imperial IPA's

I reccomend if you are ever in the bakersfield area that you stop in for a tulip of this delightful brew.

One of the best beers I've ever had. Great aroma, Smooth taste, and the after taste is smooth on the palate! The atmosphere certainly adds to the equation. The only issue it comes in a smaller glass, really it's only one swallow. Awesome beer. Thanks brewmaster!

This is a very balanced beer. Little or no hint of the 10% alcohol. The color is a bright golden hue. Tropical notes and stone fruit on the nose with a pleasant mouth feel that rolls nicely over the tounge and finishes dry and hoppy. Zeus has a nice clean finish. Wonderful beer

Great tasting imperial. Doesn't linger on the tongue and has a great crisp flavor. I've had it in a bottle as well as on tap. I'm no pro, but I cannot tell the difference either way, in a bottle or on tap. It is by far my favorite imperial. A must try given the opportunity.

Tasted from a bomber bottle into a goblet.

L - Pretty copper/orange color and totally clear. White head is thick and fluffy. It settles to a thin sheet and lots of lace.

S - Aromas are balanced, clean and complex, without any one smell overpowering the others. The hops are earthy and citrusy, with a definite grapefruit character. The malt is bready and slightly nutty. There is also a sharp whiff of alcohol.

T - Hops flavors and bitterness overpower the malt. The hops are citrusy and earthy. The malt gives a muted biscuit flavor. The finish is long and full of hops resin.

F - Medium body. Soft, creamy carbonation. High hops bitterness and moderate alcohol burn.

O - A very good double IPA.

This beer is outstanding. My brother and I visit Lengthwise at least 3 times a week to knock some back. The taste will leave you wanting more, but it's not one to be underestimated with alcohol content.
If you're ever in the area, trying the Zeus Imperial Ale will not leave you dissatisfied!

22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours cloudy light amber in color with a thin off-white head.

Smell: Big grapefruit aroma with some bready malt undertones. Very nice citrus hop profile.

Taste:Just as good as the aroma would suggest. Juicy citrus hop presence with a ton of grapefruit. No real alcohol heat. Stays balanced despite the aggressive hop profile. Very well done.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, smooth. Medium body for a DIPA. Dries out the palate nicely on the finish.

Overall: FIrst beer I've had from Lengthwise, and it's a great one.

Near to perfect citra IPA. Would love to do a side by side with Kern's Citra. Bakersfield is definitely doing something right.

Bottled dated 5/6/15 drank on 5/8/15.

Look: murky orange gold color. Looks like a homebrew. No offense to homebrewers. Expected more here.

Smell: plenty of hop aroma. Very citrus orienterd. kinda standard issue aroma. Nothing special here.

Taste: lots of citrus hop flavor. Again very much typical. Not earth shattering. standard issue

Feel: very Heavy for a DIPA. Syrupy almost. Not sweet. Very well attenuated, just mashed to high in my opinion. Could not would not drink more than 1, made me to full.

Overall: Stone Enjoy By has a 98 rating. This is not in the same lage as Enjoy By. It's a solid beer but not a 98.

Bottle as an extra in trade dated 02/14. Thanks! Pours hazy copper with a one finger creamy white to off white head. Nice mix of caramel, pine, and grapefruit on the nose as expected along with some grassy vegetal hops. Very nice. Flavor is a big punch of bitter pine with lots of tropical mango, grapefruit rind, and even some sweet pineapple. Light caramel finish that then hits you with a big dry bitterness on the palate. A big beer, resinous, medium carbonation. Pleasantly surprised by this one! Plenty fresh but curious if the hops kicked even more ass back in Feb.

A: Hazy golden-orange with a small, bubbly, eggshell head that dissipated quickly. Decent lacing.

S: Aroma is big on Citra hops. Tropical fruit and citrus notes. Light breadyness.

T: Similar to smell. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit. Mango, pineapple, peach, tangerine, grapefruit, etc. Big hop-forward bitterness. Also has an underlying earthy character. Was told that this beer is 10+% alcohol. That being the case, the alcohol is hidden unbelievably well. Very little alcohol detected.

M: Medium to full mouthfeel with low carbonation. Would have liked a bit more carbonation. The lack of carbonation makes it slightly too juicy.

O: Without a doubt the best beer to come out of Lengthwise. I hope it becomes a staple. I could definitely drink this on a regular basis. ...I'd like to try this one side-by-side with Kern Citra, as the similarities are notable.

EDIT: I've downgraded my score a bit on this one. This beer was GREAT the first time I tried it. Subsequent batches have been really solid, but haven't matched the first. It's been a little bit different every time I've tried it. It still has a huge citrus/fruity profile, but it's uncanny similarities to Citra are definitely more subdued now.
