Lengthwise has a few locations in Bakersfield and makes a nice smooth stout, and a couple of different tasty brews, a red ale and IPAs. It's worth stopping in if you're not from Bako, I highly recommend the Zeus. The food is okay to good and the portions are very big. Their specials are usually where it's at. Get the deep pit. Drank a Zeus or a Double Cent and enjoy the best beer in the drunkest city in America!

This was a decent little brewery with a good balance of beer style offerings, and we were happy to have found it. The pub has a great atmosphere, with lots of very interesting beer art on the walls, a ton of open space and seating, and a bright, welcoming feel. Very decent menu of food, as well, and this place won't bankrupt you after an afternoon. This place could easily accommodate large groups of people without ever feeling crowded. We were there on a Sunday, and it was quiet while we were there. The bartender was very informative, and very helpful. I'm telling you, if you unfortunately find yourself wandering around Bakersfield, CA, this place should be on your radar.

Stopped in here while driving between my parents' houses on a road-trip out west with my girlfriend. Lengthwise is located in a stripmall in a very industrial area, kind of an odd place for a brewpub, and outside it did not look like one at all.

Inside was an interesting vibe. Very impressive beer-themed artwork on the walls (the bartender told us it was the painter was one of the owner's in-laws), brewing equipment visible, and a ton of vintage motorcycles from around the world throughout the very spacious and somewhat industrial building. It reminded me of a very over-sized but well-decorated garage that would make most men jealous. Not too cozy, but definitely cool.

We sat down and ordered a couple samples, all of which were solid but not ridiculously impressive. I eventually decided on a pint of their summer seasonal, an APA (whose review I lost when my iPhone died as soon as I returned from the trip; thankfully I switched back to using a notebook a couple days later). This APA, whose name I forget (listed on my phone) is unfortunately not on BA, but reminded me of Odell's St. Lupulin. Beyond this, their selection was pretty standard: an IPA, brown, hefe, etc., plus a handful of guest brews that weren't terribly impressive.

We also ordered a plate of their garlic fries to munch on while drinking. They were pretty basic, but I don't feel I can comment too much on their food from our small sample.

Service was a little slow, but there was only one bartender and it was surprisingly busy for mid-afternoon. Still, I managed to corner him into a conversation about beer and the artwork when it slowed down a bit, and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Lengthwise. It was by no means one of my favorite breweries, but they had decent beer and an interesting atmosphere. Plus, Bakersfield isn't exactly known as the most beer-friendly town in California, so if you're passing through it's worth the visit.

Hmmm. Well not quite what I hoped for but not bad.

Staff was not discourtious but not overly friendly. It was a week.day excursion yet.the bartender offered nothng on the beers or thier orgins even on prompting.

Selection was good. They have there regular selection, but make sure you ask for theseasonals. IPA's were pretty good but not traditional by any means. Lots of artistic liberty taken. The centennial ale was good blended with three different hops.

If your out this way I would recomend a stop as thet rest of the area is bud \ coors. Next time out I will be @ bj

Atmosphere - The building is part of an industrial park so its not much to look at from the outside. Inside is pretty cool at least to me. They have a garage bar beer room feel going on with old motorcycles behind the bar and and on top of a wall and old breweriana on the walls and rafters. Theres a large L shaped bar as you walk in to the right with some high top tables to the right and a bunch of regular tables to the left.

Quality/Selection - They had seven house brews on tap during my visit of mostly standard styles. The beers were mostly just ok some were good like their IPA and Raspberry Wheat ale.

Service - I stopped in during the week for lunch so they didn't have any servers on the floor so I had to order from the bar to get my food and drinks. The bartender was kind and quick with his service.

Food - Like I said I was here for lunch so me and the wife ordered some sandwiches. I got a panini that was on special for the day and I must say that it was very good and the wife also enjoyed her meal.

It's about time this place got some respect and some attention. I stopped here after a visit to the phenomenal Kern River Brewing.

Bakersfield is bigger than I expected, and thus this place a little more tucked away than I assumed. Kind of an industrial area, but this is its jewel.

A bit of a motorbike, garage feel inside, which is a cool idea. Some interesting articles adorn the walls, and there is ample seating. Plus, the food is very tasty-- better than your average pub fare. Try the stinky fries. Try them now. Garlic fries with Gorgonzola. Giddy the f up!

I checked out the brewhouse. It's on the small side for your California craft package breweries but on the bigger side for a brew pub. They must drink a ton of beer in Bakersfield. I know they distribute out there.

The beers are quite good. I tried their Centennial Ale, Triple Hop Red and Ker River Crude. I thought all were excellent! The crude was likely my favorite-- a nice nitro poor to boot!

Plus, they have a whole growler station where they poor what look like party pigs and your usual growlers. THe prices were fair, and they had a separate draft line for the crude that was not nitro to preserve the beer longer!

Worth the drive from LA.

Tucked away in an industrial area--with the entrance on the side of the building--from the outside, Lengthwise Brewing Company looks like your typical little office building. But inside, a great casual atmosphere with wood tables and metal chairs. A sign by the door tells you to order with the bartender. A bit of an inconvenience.

I had the fish and chips and thought it was very good, if a bit pricey. Served in a red bucket on paper, it should be a a buck or two cheaper.

There beers were flawless. The nitrogen pumped porter was choclately and roasty. The red ale was just amazing, and the golden ale simple but delicious. We even took a growler to the hotel.

Atmosphere - The atmosphere changes depending on what day you go. If you want a nice family place where its quite with good food and discussion then I say go Monday - Wendsday. It you want the hopping party atmosphere go Thursday - Sunday. This place has it all.

Quality - The food and the beer are awesome. I highly recommend the chicken fingers or the fish and chips for an entree and the Deep Fried Twinkies for dessert.

Service - My only complaint is you have to order all your food and drinks at the bar and there isn't always a lot of bartenders behind the bar when its busy. Its not a big deal but a server or too would be a benefit.

Selection - There is a decent selection of food and beer but not so big that quality suffers. I am a big fan of a few good items done really well then a huge amount of variety done averagely and I think this is how lengthwise does it.

Food - The food is very well prepared. I have probably tried most of the things on the menu and have never been disappointed

Value - I think this a good value. There aren't alot of places in Bakersfield where you can get good food and beer in one place. The prices could be a little less but they aren't bad. I feel you get what you pay for and more.

The brewpub was pretty easy to find. The server hooked me up with a Porter almost immediately. Service good and consistent. Atmosphere was cool. Classic Rock playing in the background. The crowd ranges from local oil workers, mechanics and businessmen. There is a motorcycle behind the bar on a pedestal. It looks like a showpiece being restored. The place itself was cozy, spacious, outdoor seating available and large L shaped bar. 6 beers on tap when I was there. I had a burger and it was good too. Overall, good place that always has good service. The place in Bakersfield! A pretty good place as well.

This place is located a bit off the beaten path. We drove 30 miles (each way) from a motorcycle trackday at buttonwillow raceway to visit. It was the only brewpub located on beerfly for the entire Bakersfield area, well unless you count BJ's which we drove past on the way.

They have 5 of their own regular beers on tap, and 1 seasonal rotation. They apparently had 1 semi-hidden Bud Light tap that I called them on. You can't please everyone all the time. There were no other guest beers :(

I sampled all the beers and found the Triple Hop Red Ale and Kern County Porter to be quite delicious, so I had a full pint of each. the rest were a bit on the lighter/summery side of the taste spectrum. Good, but not really my thing.

The sell to go in growlers, "Party Pigs" (2.25 gal), as well as 5gal, pony and full kegs. Several people stopped in while we were there and walked out with various beer to go. Not a surprise as they are really the only game in town.

The food was stellar, I had the Tri-Tip Steak sandwich. It wasn't what I expected, it was even better. My friend had the Rib Tips and they were excellent too. The hot-wing appetizer was a miss for me, but my friend liked it.

They also roast and sell their own coffee beans, which begged the question why not offer a coffee stout or coffee porter? They told me lack of demand, but I think they are missing an opportunity there.

One of the owners is a bike nut and is in the practice of ground up restorations of obscure classic motorcycles right there in the restaraunt/brewery. They allow you to walk around wherever you want and look at the brew equipment and the bikes in various stages of restoration.

We ended up speaking with one owner for about an hour regarding his bike restoration projects. He was eager to share his knowledge and that alone made the trip worthwhile, the food and beer were just icing on the cake. The other owner was at the Mammoth Lake Beer Festival.

The staff was super friendly, very helpful and extremely generous. For a Sat. night they were not very crowded, but I could tell a lot of the folks were regulars and their business must be primarily word of mouth due to the location.

Lengthwise is a must visit and worth seeking out if you happen to get stuck in Bakersfield for an evening or more.
