This is a store that seems to specialize in wine. From what I saw the wine selection was good, but this review is about beer so...here it goes.

As you walk in the door and by the counter there is a shelf and cooler section on the right hand side with glassware and singles of various sizes. The rest of the beer is located in the back of the store in coolers. Selection is just above average but I was still able to find a couple brews that I had been searching for. Employees were nice but I really did not need much help from them. Quality is good but not outstanding. Some of the breweries that were represented are: Lindemans, Ommegang, Left Hand, Weihenstephaner, St. Peters, Stone, Goose Island, Great Lakes, Shiner, Columbus Brewing, Founders, North Coast, Magic Hat, Bells, Dogfish Head, and Stoudts.

What I walked out with:
Harpoon 100 Barrel Old Rusty's Red Rye Ale
Liefmans Goudenband
Clipper City Below Decks

Gentiles is a great place to go if you are interested in home brewing. They have an excellent selection of yeasts and hops, and a good selection of malts. They have a malt grinder available for use if you don't have one, so you don't have to buy the pre-ground stuff which might have lost some potency because of storage time. They have just about all of the equipment you might need to start brewing with or without a kit, so you can customize your setup a bit. They also have a good amount of flavoring, hard to find herbs, and water treatments if you are doing that sort of thing.

The beer selection is excellent, but due to space, they may not have a huge volume of beers available.

Everyone here has been super cool and friendly, and if ever I couldn't find a certain malt or hop that I planned on using, they can help find adequate replacements so you don't have to tweak your recipe much.

Before you collect your homebrew stuff, order a pizza at momma mimi's - then cook it while you homebrew...so good!

Due to the lack of beer stores on the west-side of Columbus, I usually stop here on my way home from work, as it's somewhat on-the-way. It's a decent option if you're in the area, but there are better options worth going to if you're from out of town.

The service is usually pretty decent, however, you can get snarky remarks if you're asking a question they're heard several times throughout the day, or if someone is in a bad mood. It really all depends on who you're talking to. I will say I've received excellent help on a few homebrewing questions when I've asked. Their selection of ingredients is fairly decent, and by far the best option for me convenience wise. The beer selection isn't overwhelming due to a lack of space, but there are good options available, and they seem to get small amounts of limited releases. The wine selection seems to be exceptional - if it matters to you.

The shop is a little cramped for me, being a big guy, but they have a pretty good setup for the small area they have available to them. In the end, if you're driving by, stop in.
