A 500ml green glass bottle with a BB of Jan 2014. Picked up from Waitrose a little while back. Described on the label as a Bavarian lager brewed with mountain water.
Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear pale-gold hue with faint sediment and plentiful carbonation. Yields a decent head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma of light malt with subtle hints of grass, noble hops, mild earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves. Dry, with harsh undertones.
Tastes of light malt with a crisp finish. Notes of grass/hay, mild noble hops, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Well-attenuated and faintly grainy. A delicate bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body for the style. Slightly astringent, with an aftertaste of stewed leaves/hops and faint cardboard.
Quite a nice lager - not world-class but a cut above most macro produce. Looks decent, while the aroma and flavour have a subtle noble hop presence. A satisfyingly light, dry body. Goes down easily enough, and would certainly quench a thirst on a hot day. Worth sampling if you have the chance.
