Brought to me by a friend after his recent stop in Austria, thanks Rob!

Pours with a half-finger of pure white foam that doesn't last long at all; a very average looking clear yellow color that doesn't even show off some carbonation rising.

Musky graininess in the aroma; sorta herbal hop that actual comes through relatively well and crackery maltiness for the aroma. The taste leans a little sweeter than suggested by the nose; some fruit (apples?) comes in and the aftertaste is not the most pleasant in the world, fairly minerally as well. MF is thinner to medium for the style, with some tiny bubbles. Not really great drinking, nothing interesting (even for the style), not too clean, and not all that refreshing. Eh.

Average beer, I was hoping for more. Beautiful retro label. Clear light golden. Average white head. Retention and lacing both average. Some hops in the aroma lend a floral and delicately spicy note to the straightforward malt. Lightly sweet and softly grainy malt is balanced in the flavor by subtly herbal hop flavors and a moderate bitterness. Light-medium in body with a median carbonation level. Dull, bitter finish. The Germans make great beer, the Czechs make great beer... why not the Viennese?

My first review in a long time, I hope I don’t mess it up!

I found this one at an Oktoberfest of a German inspired student club in Leuven.

The beer is presented in a very nice bottle with a swing top. When I opened it, I was welcomed by a inviting and soft hop smell.
The beer was poured out in a 0.5l glass. It gave a two inch thick head of pure white. It’s colour is a very pure gold. There is not a lot of acidity, but the little bubbles are numerous as they travel from the bottom to the top.
The odour is quit sweet: hop, sugar, malt. On the other hand the taste is quite sharp. Bitter and fresh. The aftertaste is dry, sweet and bitter.

A nice beer but actually too sweet. I wouldn’t refuse a couple more of these.

Comes with a swingtop bottle. Very nice touch. The beer pours out to a clear yellow with a lot of carbonation bubbles on the side of the glass. The head is very small, however, and subsides quickly.

The smell is rather faint, but reminds me of apples and pears. Hard to detect the hops, but it's there.

The light taste is fairly well-balanced with a decent amount of hops flavor and sweet malty breath.

Mouthfeel is thin with a decent amount of carbonation.

This is a very drinkable beer, nice and light on the tongue.

Best thing I can say about this beer is the bottle is cool. Really like the swingcap. Wish I could say more about the beer.

Pours a very pale yellow with a decent white head. Is sour and metallic on the nose. Sight bitter, metallic taste, no complexity at all.

Reminds me of a cheap domestic macro, not my kind of beer.

Beh saving up on my vienna beer imports brought me finally to Wieselburger Stammbräu. The beer itself is not bad, the pour is cristal yellow, considerably carbonated and with a semi dense white head, inviting all-in-all. the smell is rather malty, slightly metallic. The taste, blending the metallic feel of a proto-pilsner, a tad of sweetness from the malt, a considerable finale of bitterness and an omnipresent carbonation at the mouth make it an OK austrian brew.

Got this one from Austria, nice 0,5l bottle.

A-Amber golden color with medium carbonation and minute lasting white foam.

S-Some sweetness, banana maybe or some other fruits.

T/M-Maybe some less bitterness in it,also some fruits, low carbonation. Very easy to drink.

O-Average good lager,yes,you could try it,but if not,you won't miss much.

This is a spicy and not too strongly hopped brew. Stammbräu is only available in the traditional cliplock bottles which is really cool. light alcohol note and maybe toffee in the finish. A clear yellow body with a small, fizzy, white head, diminishing with virtually no lacing. Flavour is light-to-moderate sweet and light bitter at the beginning, then the sweet note disappears leaving a moderate bitter note; average-to-long finish. Light-to-medium body with a watery texture; average carbonation. A truly awesome drinking beer.

.5L emptied into a thick-walled Wieselburger Pilsener.

A: Pours a pale gold with a fluffy 2-finger white head which quickly collapses upon itself to leave a trace ring. Good lacing in the upper third of the glass.

S: Hops are readily apparent. As the beer warms, the malts begin to appear. Slight citrus aroma as well.

M: Medium-to-light body with a good carbonation fizzle.

T: Solid barley malt with well balanced Saaz hops. There's a shade of tannin in the aftertaste, otherwise quite crisp. Slightly sweet throughout.

D: Nice beer. A go-to beer for me, Stammbräu was the first memorable beer that I had when I moved to Austria. Easy drinking, goes down smooth. Not overly complicated, but certainly a cut above the usual swill produced under the Brau Union moniker.

Nice bottle, with a swingcap.

Very clear yellow body, with only a little head unless you pour pretty aggressively. Overbubbly once the head arrives, and although it's sticky, it collapses pretty rapidly.

Slightly sour metallic character on the nose. Not bad, although hints of barnyard funk creep in. It's alright, but not great.

Slightly bitter on the palate, clean and crisp. Not a lot of complexity, pretty simple, but still nice and drinkable.

In the end this is just a good, easy to drink German style lager. It's not going to knock your socks off, but it delivers the goods if you're after an easy drinking beer.

A very nice swing top bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - This is a crystal clear, gold beer. A nice 2-inch head that shrunk to about 1-inch over a 3-4 minute period but never went away.

S - A light but immediate hop aroma with some malt. Nothing complicated just a very straightforward aroma.

T - Sweet with a bitter finish and sharp bite. This is a tasty beer but a bit sweeter that what I expected.

M - light and crisp.

D - This is one of the better beers that I have found widely available in Austria. Most of the stuff in Vienna left me wanting, there were some very nice beers in Salzburg, and this is one of the best bottled beers I found in the whole country. Not one of my favorite beers in the world but definitely worthy of your time if you are somewhere it is available.

Pours a light golden color with a decent white-tannish head that stays for a bit--poured a little too fast.

The aroma has a faint whiff of the semi-Saaz hops. Taste is satisfying and uncomplicated. Medium dryness, very drinkable. A good late summer, early fall pick.

Pours pale golden, low foam.
Smells of green grass, sweet malts, unclear fruitiness, faint skunkiness.
FIrst taste is of sweet grainy malts, with some nice fruitiness also (red apple, yellow pear, faint sweet orange, white grapes). A musty, tannin feel. Lots of lemon zest and citrus peel. Spices are low, with some pepper pinching through. Hops are decent in the finish, if not for a bad metallic note.
Mouthfeel is fizzy, and the bad notes of this beer stick in the aftertaste, unfortunately, with a barnyard skunkiness and a coiny bitterness. Crisp and refreshing otherwise.
This could have been such a great beer if it didn't mess up in some aspects. Still, not awful, just not "chiseled" enough.

A-pours a very clear light yellow with a 2 fingers head that recedes slowly not much retention very slight lacing.

S-First words? not very good. smells a bit like metal and crackers with a slight herbal hoppiness.

T-taste is pretty bad as well, a pale lager with a handful of pennies in the bottom of the glass if i could sum it up.

M- very thin watery and the taste of metal lingers.

glad my wife only brought one of these back from Austria as I would probably drain pour the rest IF there were more..

Prost!!!

S: a bit herbal, hint of hops, some sweetness

T: Some hops, the sweetness is there, but this is countered by those hops.

M: medium body, medium carbonation, rather dry

O: above average lager not a great one
