.5L bottle dated March 2013 consumed in Vienna.

Pours a light yellow-golden color, with a sudsy white head. The head has moderate duration and leaves more lacing than expected.

M: light body with aggressive carbonation. Quite crisp with a lightly dry finish.

This looks, smells and tastes very light for a Marzen. Really, this is best thought of as a light Marzen. It is clean and refreshing, and has a very good sweet/bitter balance. So, while not a particularly good Marzen, it is a decent, low-cost go-to beer for a cold summer beverage.

Found in a Vienna supermarket, the standard brown half liter bottle features a green, red and gold label sporting little more than the name printed vertically. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 6/24/07, I opened it on 11/21/06.

Pours a clear, slightly orange gold under a two finger off-white head that settles fairly quickly but manages to cling to the sides quite well, leaving some spots and strings of lace. The nose is smooth of sweet barley. The mouth is fairly heavy and thick, and well-carbonated. There's malt in the opening, but it is weaker than it should be, grainy but not at all sweet. The hops are also extremely mild, with just a hint of spice and next to no bitterness at all. A fairly bland brew, there's nothing to object to, but also nothing to get excited about. Take it or leave it.

Appearance: Golden; effervescent; small head

Aroma: Malty; hoppy; straw-like

Taste: Juicy malt; slightly hoppy; very crisp and refreshing; not bad at all

Remarks: Bought in Salzburg, AT; it was very hot and I was thirsty, so score may be higher than normal. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the beer.

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Pale golden colour, small thin head which didn't hang around long, small amount of lacing retained. Malty aroma, hints of vanilla and red cabbage point to Saaz hop. Tasted sweet apple, hint of malt and vanilla, bready finish. Soon went flat, texture too thick, fairly smooth. Drinkable but too thick to be a decent Vienna or Helles lager, lacking the depth of a decent Märzen.

.5L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours yellow-gold with a fluffy, albeit globulous, 2-finger white head which quickly receeds to a thin ring. Spotty lacing.

S: Sweet barley malt and grassy hops, accompanied by a touch of straw.

M: Light-to-medium body with good carbonation.

T: Bready, slightly sweet with diacetyl notes. Mildly spicy hops through the midrange. Somewhat bitter finish with a lightly hopped aftertaste.

D: Everything about this beer is mild. Bearing in mind that it is a budget brew forgives some of it's shortfalls. Overall, quite drinkable and goes down quickly, just not very memorably.

I bought this beer yesterday in an Austrian supermarket, the Billa shop. Poured in a normal drinking glass the beer looks quit nice in the beginning but in lass than a minte the head is totally gone and a yellow fluid with no carbonation at all stays behind in the glass.

They have used a bitter hop and that makes the beer not BA worthy. Light bread taste.

Had this beer poured into a 0.5L pokal glass.

The pour leaves a very foamy head, and the body retains a transparent, golden color. It's apparent flatness and lack of carbonation gives it less appeal.

The head resides, leaving a subtle hoppy scent with a mild sweetness. There are traces of citrus and smooth malty overtones.

The taste was not too impressive, a little bland and stale. There is no balance between smell and taste - didn't get the hops and no citrus. A little watery, nothing heavy with the alcohol.

Split a six pack of this with my buddy Chris while vacationing in Austria.

Poured from bottle directly into my mouth.

Appearance: Not sure of the color (though I assume amber). Body is clear, lightly carbonated, and has a big, white, foamy top.

Smell: Caramel, tons of grain, and some lemon-grassy hops.

Taste: Was really sharp at first but mellowed out with progressive sips. Lots of lemon and spice upfront which joins alcohol and toasted grains in the middle. Caramel and honey are also noted. All in all, pretty harsh and not too tasty. Offensive at times.

Mouthfeel: Really high carbonation coupled with a light-medium, malty body. Finishes clean and very crisp; burns a bit.

Drinkability: Sharpness and offensive tastes fade with time, but this is not a good märzen (or Vienna lager). Still, for 3.64 Euro per six pack, we may get this again.

This one started off great...Pours up a very Rocky picture perfect Schaumkrone! The aroma is also very nice to style with a very malty almost wort like arom. Toasted malts are very present. The aroma is crisp and clean and only slightly sweet. The flavor was such a failure....Body wise the Bier is empty, watery and thin. The malt flavor is weak and thins also. Just not good....
