We got a ton of this one winter for 3 bucks a 12 pack. It was almost undrinkable. Here is the trick. It was a really cold winter in Bozeman MT so we would take a case and put it on the back porch. Then after it sat outside for a long time we would grab one and drink it as fast as possible, but once your hand touches the can it will start to warm up and if you don't get through the whole can in the first pull just toss the rest it will be tough to finish. The key is getting it really cold and drinking it fast before it warms up.
Ice I think is actually a serving suggestion as opposed to a production technique.

A very lightly hazed bright yellow colored body. Quarter inch white colored head hung on about three minutes. No carbonation to see rising. Thin sticky lace.
Aroma is a strong blend of corn husks and yeast scents. Nothing in the way of hops bitterness present at all. Yeast is to overpowering.
Taste is overpowered in the same way the aroma is. Yeast taste is primary to a very light corn taste. Malt is third, and there is no noticeable hop taste.
Watery beer runs of the tongue quickly. Carbonation tingle is closer to a soda feeling then beer.
Nice looks betray the taste. Good for washing down bland food. Not one I would drink given any choices, but that said, better then some of the choices in the style.

Classic corn kernel amber topped with a pretty good looking cap of cumulus cloud white. A steady barrage of bubbles ensures that the head will last longer than the heads on most adjunct lagers. Other than being overly melty, the lace is a credit to the appearance.
I find the nose to be no better and no worse than usual. It's far from wonderful, but then it's equally far from revolting. I smell sweetish cereal grains mixed with a meager whiff of musky hoppiness. Par for the course, ice beer or not.
The flavor strikes me the same way. I know that everyone doesn't feel this way, but I like my macro lagers to be on the sweet side rather than the dry side. Schmidt Ice is even sweeter than most, almost like a low-ABV malt liquor. Yeah, it's corny, but then I didn't pop the tab expecting Tripel Karmeliet.
Hop flavor and hop bitterness are at a minimum; just barley and corn sugars with almost no hint of alcohol. Simple and clean are the operative words here. I'm not even detecting the beginnings of nastiness as the beer warms. The body/mouthfeel is definitely light, but then that's as it should be. I like the soft carbonation as well.
Schmidt Ice is yet another adjunct lager under the Pabst umbrella that is surprisingly drinkable. After glancing at the scores of the previous three reviewers, I have to say that I'm shocked at how good it is (relatively speaking, of course). I'll have no trouble finishing the 4-pack if I pair them with big ol' juicy burgers from the grill.

This beer really isn't even worth the time invested in writing this review, but hey, I'm in a nostalgic mood :)
Several years ago, I was given a can of this swill by a friend down the hall from me when I lived in the dorms at college.
I remember it being, bar none, the absolute worst beer I've ever had. At the time I wasn't even that much into craft beer, but I could still recognize a bad one.
Rotten grains come to mind when thinking of how it tasted. Probably a combo of delicious corn and rice. Don't recall it even having the typical ice beer hit so I doubt one could even stomach enough of it to get to the desired destination ;)
I suppose if you're out camping, and you want something cheap and drinkable...

When camping, the "animal pack" is always a required choice. When the purpose of the camping is to get stupid drunk, Schmidt Ice is very appealing with its mountain goat cans and 5.9% abv.
This beer is a bastard in a hot can but if you keep it cold drinking is made much easier. Actually has a bit more body than most of the lowest end macros, but make no mistake about it the point of this beer is to get the alcohol in your blood. It does a good job of that with an abv not high enough to make you taste the alcohol/sugar mix (Steel Reserve), and not low enough to keep you pissing every five minutes to get rid of the excess water (Busch Light).
For me, a lower abv macro such as Coors or Rainier would be preferred. But if you're going to as low as the Schmidt brand, you may as well go for Schmidt Ice.
